In the last few decades, Brazil has experienced an accelerated urbanization process in which many cities have grown in a disorderly way occupying environmentally fragile areas unsuitable for habitation. Anthropogenic actions such as high levels of impermeable soil, structural changes in watercourses, lack of riparian vegetation, illegal presence of trash and rubbish along the river banks added to irregular settlements in floodplains result in the rise of high risk areas. When accompanied by intense and prolonged rainfall phenomena, those areas have been the scenery of serious accidents such as floods. This study aims to classify the level of the risk of floods in the neighborhood of Jardim Inocoop, in the town of Rio Claro, São Paulo countryside, Brazil. One of the main technical support to tackle this issue is the identification and classification of the risks. In order to classify the risk level of flood in this case study, the methodology adopted was developed by the Ministry of Cities and Technology Research Institute, and take into account the arrangement of the hydrological scenario, vulnerability of households and dangerous process according to the distance of the houses from the axis of drainage. Therefore, the risk levels adopted to classify are listed below: very high (MA), high risk (A), moderate (M) and low risk (B). In conclusion, it is imperative to develop prevention plans in order to avoid or to minimize the damages caused by natural disasters. Therefore, the zoning of the risk sceneries remains as an important issue once it helps to identify the areas with high level risk of flood. Consequently, the occupation must be regulated where there is low or absent risk and it must be often forbidden where the high risk of flood is detected. Thus, the present study remains as an attempt to notify the risk of floods through its spatialization on a map, remainig...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

This study aimed to recognize the significant temporal changes in land use between 1984 and 2008 in Barra Bonita City/ SP and to analyze the conflicts of land use in permanent preservation areas (PPA) with reference to the Forest Code and Resolution N. 303/2002 of CONAMA. The GIS Idrisi Andes 5.0 – geographic information system was used and the images were processed by LANDSAT TM5. Maps of land use were obtained by Maxver supervised classification and showed that in 1984 the area occupied by sugar cane crop was about 10.50 ha (70%) in 1984 and 10.90 ha in 2008. In analysis of conflicts about land use in permanent preservation areas showed that in 24 years the sugar-cane crops increased 3.6% on PPA. The occupation was represented by adequate forest of 279.25 ha (31.5% of total) in 1984. In 2008, the sugar-cane crop was the biggest conflict in PPA occupying 357.9 ha and 11.4% corresponds to areas in preparation for use. This year, 59.5% of total PPA is at odds with environmental legislation.

The study aimed to obtain the land use of the watershed Ribeirão Santo Antonio - São Manuel (SP), through the thematic map of the satellite image. The cartographic databases were planialtimetric letter in digital format used in georeferencing and the satellite image. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) -IDRISI Andes 15.0 was use to perform the image georeferencing and to do the thematic map obtained from the visual interpretation the satellite image. The map of land use showed that the culture of sugar cane occupies most of the area (81.00%), when analyzing the satellite image. This result show us the predominance of agricultural occupation in the region. The thematic map obtained by the classification screen, using GIS, allowed the mapping of land use, generating data that will assist in future planning area recovery. The results of the study showed the efficiency, speed and reliability of the tools used, these being very useful for future projects.

The aim of this work is to discriminate vegetation classes throught remote sensing images from the satellite CBERS-2, related to winter and summer seasons in the Campos Gerais region Paraná State, Brazil. The vegetation cover of the region presents different kinds of vegetations: summer and winter cultures, reforestation areas, natural areas and pasture. Supervised classification techniques like Maximum Likelihood Classifier (MLC) and Decision Tree were evaluated, considering a set of attributes from images, composed by bands of the CCD sensor (1, 2, 3, 4), vegetation indices (CTVI, DVI, GEMI, NDVI, SR, SAVI, TVI), mixture models (soil, shadow, vegetation) and the two first main components. The evaluation of the classifications accuracy was made using the classification error matrix and the kappa coefficient. It was defined a high discriminatory level during the classes definition, in order to allow separation of different kinds of winter and summer crops. The classification accuracy by decision tree was 94.5% and the kappa coefficient was 0.9389 for the scene 157/128. For the scene 158/127, the values were 88% and 0.8667, respectively. The classification accuracy by MLC was 84.86% and the kappa coefficient was 0.8099 for the scene 157/128. For the scene 158/127, the values were 77.90% and 0.7476, respectively. The results showed a better performance of the Decision Tree classifier than MLC, especially to the classes related to cultivated crops, indicating the use of the Decision Tree classifier to the vegetation cover mapping including different kinds of crops.

This work is to identify and classify extended techniques on acoustic bass. The main purpose of this classification is to provide the bass better understanding and practice these techniques. For this, we carried out a literature review, it was noted that, in academia, this topic is new and understanding for some musicians is still complex and nebulous. To assist in the difficulties of the bass player, the extended techniques were divided into two parts, proposing different approaches. The first part proposes the experimentation and exploration of conventional and unconventional techniques from other instruments on acoustic bass. The second seeks to identify and rank the extended techniques, showing excerpts from the solo instrument repertoire compositions. On each, there are still referenced authors and their contributions to the instrumental practice these techniques. In both categories of classification procedures were presented to be adopted by the bass player for the implementation of those techniques, as well as suggestions for their study. Among the main results, it was found that through the proposed classification of these techniques, one can incorporate new resources to technical universe and timbre of the instrument. Lastly, it was found a creation of a composition performed by interaction between composer and performer, containing new extended techniques or extended techniques not found in the instrument's contemporary soloist repertoire.
