In 2003/2004 the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety commissioned a value for money follow-up audit of Anaesthetics, Pain Relief and Critical Care (APRCC) services at twelve Trusts and covering fourteen hospital sites. The original study had reported in 1999/2000. Detailed follow-up reports, together with action plans have been agreed locally with Trusts. The objectives of the follow-up review were to: • Ascertain the progress made in implementing recommendations from the original study; • Provide data to compare performance across Trusts in areas such as: - Pre-operative assessments; - Organisation of post-operative pain relief; - Organisation of chronic pain services; - Levels of admissions to critical care units; - Occupancy in critical care units; and åÊ • Assess the extent of progress made by Trusts in the implementation of the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) recommendations from ‘Facing the Future –Building on the Lessons of Winter 1999/2000’. To enable comparisons across Trusts, data was collected for the financial year 2002/2003. In addition, relevant findings from the Audit Commission’s Acute Hospitals Portfolio have also been included. The Acute Hospital Portfolio is a collection of reviews that are undertaken at acute and specialist Trusts. They focus on key service areas and are reported along the key performance criteria of patient experience, efficiency and capacity. åÊ

The Regional Advisory Committee on Cancer Services (RACC) was established in 1997. Its purpose is to advise the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Campbell Report Cancer Services: Investing for the Future and on the development and delivery of cancer services in Northern Ireland. The remit and functions of RACC are set out in Annex 1. The 28 members of RACC come from the Health and Social Services Councils (which represent the interests of the public), primary care, Trusts, Boards and the DHSS. The Chief Medical Officer attends as an observer. The full membership of the committee is listed in Annex 2. 1.3 RACC held its first meeting in June 1997 and has continued to meet twice a year since then. This is its first report. åÊ åÊ

Research Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery in Ireland The Report of the Commission on Nursing (1998, para. 6.77) recommended that the Nursing Policy Division in the Department of Health and Children, in consultation with the appropriate bodies, draw up a national strategy for nursing and midwifery research. In response to the above, the Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health and Children convened a consultative committee to prepare a research strategy for nursing and midwifery in Ireland. The Minister for Health requested the Chief Medical Officer to prepare a Report for him on issues that arose following a Primetime Investigates programme relating to Portlaoise Hospital Maternity Services (PHMS) on 30th January 2014. This Report provides a preliminary assessment of PHMS focusing on perinatal deaths (2006-date) and related matters. Through a series of recommendations it sets out the need for further examination or actions where the findings of this preliminary assessment suggest such a need. It also makes clear who should be responsible for these further examinations or actions. Â Download the Report

The report contains 46 different indicators of drug use relating to the individual, community and population across all nine English regions; with additional analysis of sub-regional inequalities where possible. This report is the sixth in the series, "Indications of Public Health in the English Regions" commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer and has been produced jointly by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Sexual health is identified as one of the key national priorities for action in the White Paper Choosing Health. Influenced by the broad definition of sexual health provided in the National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV, this report presents regional comparative data on a wide range of indicators of sexual health and its determinants, and highlights apparent inequalities.

Tutkielman ensisijaisena tavoitteena oli selvittää miten pörssinoteerattujen metsäteollisuuden alan yhtiöiden toimitusjohtajien palkitsemisjärjestelmät eroavat toisistaan. Tutkimuksessa keskityttiin erityisesti siihen, miten corporate governancen mukainen johtamisen valvonta vaikuttaa toimitusjohtajien palkitsemismenetelmiin. Tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin internetistä. Corporate governancen näkökulmasta riittävän informaation ja läpinäkyvyyden suositukset nousivat keskeiselle sijalle aineistoa hankittaessa. Tutkimusmenetelminä oli vertaileva ja selittävä tutkimus. Tutkimustulosten mukaan toimitusjohtajien palkitsemisjärjestelmät voidaan jakaa karkeasti kahteen luokkaan: yhdysvaltalaisiin toimitusjohtajiin ja muiden maiden toimitusjohtajiin. Yhdysvalloissa osakkeiden, osakeoptioiden, eläkejärjestelyiden ja muiden pitkän tähtäimen kannustinten osuus on huomattavasti merkittävämpi kuin muissa maissa ja toimitusjohtajien palkan määrä huomattavasti korkeampi kuin muissa maissa. Tutkimustulosten mukaan eri maiden erilaiset corporate governance – järjestelmät synnyttävät näitä eroja, sillä erilaisissa valvontamalleissa
