The photograph was taken in the late 19th century or early 20th century before the streetcar tracks were laid and a third floor added to the store. Members of the Meyerhof family lived in the 3rd floor apartment. Note the faces of the seamstresses on the second floor who were producing sheets, etc.

The notions of identity and teacher education have attracted considerable research over the years, revealing a strong correlation between teacher beliefs and practices and the resultant impact on pedagogical practices in the classroom. In an era where the use of digital technologies should be synonymous with teacher pedagogical practices and transforming education, there is a growing need for pre-service teachers to develop an identity that resonates with pedagogical practices that engage and connect with students in a positive and productive way. With many educational institutions also mandating that educators use digital technologies as a tool to support and enhance teaching, pre-service teacher education needs to ensure that students understand and develop a positive identity within this digital world. Current literature acknowledges that many educators adopt digital technologies in the classroom without sometimes fully understanding its scope or impact. It is within this context that this paper reports on a three-year study of first year pre-service education students and their understanding of identity in a digital world. More specifically, the study identifies how students currently use social and digital media in their personal and professional lives to identify themselves online in order to promote a positive image. The study also seeks to identify how these technologies and an understanding of identity can be utilised to promote a positive first year experience.

The transmitted signal is assumed to consist of a close succession of rectangular pulses of equal width. A matched filter scheme is employed and a theory is developed for a computer-aided optimization of the envelope of monotone compact signals for maximum rejection of dense clutter of any given distribution in range. Specific results are presented and indeterminate cases are discussed.

A construction for a family of sequences over the 8-ary AM-PSK constellation that has maximum nontrivial correlation magnitude bounded as theta(max) less than or similar to root N is presented here. The famfly is asymptotically optimal with respect to the Welch bound on maximum magnitude of correlation. The 8-ary AM-PSK constellation is a subset of the 16-QAM constellation. We also construct two families of sequences over 16-QAM with theta(max) less than or similar to root 2 root N. These families are constructed by interleaving sets of sequences. A construction for a famBy of low-correlation sequences over QAM alphabet of size 2(2m) is presented with maximum nontrivial normalized correlation parameter bounded above by less than or similar to a root N, where N is the period of the sequences in the family and where a ranges from 1.61 in the case of 16-QAM modulation to 2.76 for large m. When used in a CDMA setting, the family will permit each user to modulate the code sequence with 2m bits of data. Interestingly, the construction permits users on the reverse link of the CDMA channel to communicate using varying data rates by switching between sequence famflies; associated to different values of the parameter m. Other features of the sequence families are improved Euclidean distance between different data symbols in comparison with PSK signaling and compatibility of the QAM sequence families with sequences belonging to the large quaternary sequence families {S(p)}.

Mononuclear, binuclear and trinuclear silver(l) complexes were obtained unexpectedly while probing the reactivity of diphosphazane ligands of the type X2PN(Pr-i)PXY towards the ruthenium-based precursor Ru(bipy)(2)Cl-2 center dot 2H(2)O, in the presence of a silver salt as a chloride scavenger. Subsequently, the reactions of AgX [X = Cl, NO3 or CF3SO3] with Ph2PN(R)PPh(Y) [R = H, Y = Ph; R = Pr-i, Y = Ph or OC6H3Me2-2,6] in a 1: 1 or 1:2 molar ratio have been investigated. Mononuclear or binuclear Ag(I) complexes containing either chelating or bridging diphosphazane ligands are obtained. Trinuclear silver(l) complexes are accessible by the treatment of diphosphazane ligands, Ph2PN(R)PPh2 [R = H, Pr-i] with AgCl using piperidine as the solvent. In the presence of a suitable chloride donor species, the mononuclear and binuclear complexes of Ph2PN(Pr-i)PPh2 are transformed slowly to the trinuclear complex [Ag-3(mu-Cl)(2){Ph2PN(Pr-i)PPh2}(3)]X, over a period 20 h. The structures of representative complexes have been confirmed by X-ray crystallography and the salient structural features are discussed
