Given a special type of triplet of reciprocal-lattice vectors in the monoclinic and orthorhombic systems, there exist eight three-phase structure seminvariants (3PSSs) for a pair of isomorphous structures. The first neighborhood of each of these 3PSSs is defined by the six magnitudes and the joint probability distribution of the corresponding six structure factors is derived according to Hauptman's neighborhood principle. This distribution leads to the conditional probability distribution of each of the 3PSSs, assuming as known the six magnitudes in its first neighborhood. The conditional probability distributions can be directly used to yield the reliable estimates (0 or pi) of the one-phase structure seminvariants (1PSSs) in the favorable case that the variances of the distributions happen to be small [Hauptman (1975). Acta Cryst. A31, 680-687]. The relevant parameters in the formulas for the monoclinic and orthorhombic systems are given in a tabular form. The applications suggest that the method is efficient for estimating the 1PSSs with values of 0 or pi.

The conditions for quasi-first and second order homogeneous catalytic reactions and their variation with each other at an ultramicrodisk electrode in the steady state are discussed in this paper. The order of reaction can be controlled by changing the dimension of the ultramicroelectrode: the second order reaction can be changed to quasi-first by decreasing the dimension of the ultramicroelectrode. An example of this is given. The main factor effect on the reaction order is the dimension of the ultramicroelectrode. The K4Fe(CN)6-aminopyrine system is selected to confirm the theory, the experiments showing that the system is a second order reaction at a 432 mum microelectrode, and a quasi-first order reaction at a 19 mum ultramicroelectrode. The kinetic constant of the system can be determined by applying the previous theory of homogeneous catalytic reaction.

Gracilaria lemaneiformis (Bory) Daws has been extensively cultivated as a source of commercial agar and the ecomaterials in Shenao Bay, Guangdong Province, Jiaozhou Bay, Shandong Province and other waters in China. This paper examines the in situ suspended farming of G. lemaneiformis using raft cultivation under different conditions and its effects on nutrient removal in the laboratory. The results showed that cultivated Gracilaria grew well in both Shenao Bay and Jiaozhou Bay. The biomass of Gracilaria increased from 50 to 775 g m(-1) (fresh weight) during 28 days, with special growth rate (SPG) 13.9% d(-1) under horizontal cultivation in Jiaozhou Bay. Light, temperature, nutrient supply, as well as cultivation treatments such as initial density, and depth of suspension seaweed were important to the growth of Gracilaria. The highest biomass production was observed in the horizontal culture condition (0.0 m) and 0.5-1.5 m deep layer in Jiaozhou Bay. However, the highest growth rate in Shenao Bay appeared under the lowest initial stocking density treatment. In the laboratory, the aquarium experiments (fish and seaweed culture systems) demonstrated that Gracilaria was able to remove inorganic nutrients effectively. The concentration of NH4+-N decreased by 85.53% and 69.45%, and the concentration of PO4-P decreased 65.97% and 26.74% in aquaria with Gracilaria after 23 days and 40 days, respectively. The results indicate that Gracilaria has the potential to remove excess nutrient from coastal areas, and the large-scale cultivation of G. lemaneiformis could be effective to control eutrophication in Chinese coastal waters. A detailed petrologic and mineralogic study was carried out on serpentinized peridotites dredged from the southern landward slopes of the Mariana Trench, in order to reveal the serpentinization process of these unusual rocks and to identify the sole presence of the mineral lizardite. The constituent minerals of these southern Mariana forearc peridotites are olivine, amphibole and spinel, as well as serpentine, chlorite and talc. Compared with serpentinite seamounts, the serpentinized peridotites from the southern Mariana forearc are characterized by the absence of magnetite and brucite, and the common presence of talc; besides, the serpentine mineral variety is simplex, only lizardite. Combining mineral chemistry and mineral phase relationships, we conclude that (1) the absence of magnetite in the serpentinized peridotites is due to incomplete serpentinization, other than magnetite, the iron end-member in olivine forms Fe-rich brucite and Fe-rich serpentine; (2) brucite is not stable with high silica activity, reacting with later SiO2-rich fluid and then forming lizardite, leading to a lack of brucite in these serpentinized peridotites; (3) the occurrence of talc is the result of later SiO2-rich fluid reactions with lizardite; and (4) the reason for the sole occurrence of lizardite is that the temperature condition of our study area was not high enough for the formation of antigorite (which is stable at > 500 degrees C). Despite the broad overlap of lizardite and chrysotile in growth temperature, differences in the modes of occurrence of lizardite and chrysotile, such as the scarcity of H2O, low porosity and permeability, as well as the actual situation of initial serpentinization in the study area, result in the absolute prevalence of lizardite over chrysotile in the area. The effects of the timing of initial feeding (0, 1, 2 3 and 4 days after yolk exhaustion) and temperature (15, 18 and 21degrees C) on the point-of-no-return (PNR), survival and growth of laboratory-reared Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus larvae were studied under controlled conditions. The larvae reached PNR on 7(.)7, 5(.)2 and 4(.)2 days-post-hatching (dph) at 15, 18 and 2 V C, respectively. At each temperature, larval growth did not differ significantly among the delayed initial feedings 1 day before PNR but decreased significantly in larvae first fed after that. In the treatments where initial feeding was equally delayed, larvae grew significantly faster at 18 and 21degrees C than at 15degrees C. The larvae survived apparently better at 15 and 18degrees C than at 21degrees C when initial feeding was equally delayed. At each temperature, survival of the larvae first fed before PNR did not differ noticeably, while delayed initial feeding after that apparently reduced their survival. These results indicated that there existed a negatively temperature-dependent PNR in the Japanese flounder larvae. Survival and growth of the larvae strongly depended on temperature as well as the timing of initial feeding. High temperature accelerated the yolk exhaustion and growth of the larvae and thus reduced their starvation tolerance and survival. To avoid potential starvation mortality and obtain good growth, the Japanese flounder larvae must establish successful initial feeding within 2 days after yolk exhaustion at 15degrees C and within 1 day at both 18 and 21degrees C. The relationship between Alexandrium tamarense (Lebour) Balech, one of red-tide alga, and two strains of marine bacteria, Bacillius megaterium(S-7) and B. halmapulus(S-10) isolated from Xiamen Western Sea, was investigated by evaluating the growth state of A. tamarense and the variation of P-glucosidase activity in co-culture system. The results showed the growth and multiplication of the alga were related with the concentration, genus speciality of the bacteria, and growth stage of the alga itself. The growth of A. tamarense was obviously inhibited by S7 and S, at high concentration. Either inhibition or promotion contributed much more clearly in earlier than in later stage of the growth of the alga. Furthermore, there was a roughly similar variation trend of the activity of extra-cellular enzyme, beta-glucosidase, in the water of the separately co-cultured bacteria S-7 and S-10 with the alga. The beta-glucosidase activity (beta-GlcA) rapidly increased during the later algal growth accompanying the increase of the lysis of the alga cells. The obvious inhibition of A. tamarense by marine bacteria at high concentration and evident increase of beta-GlcA in co-colture system would help us in better understanding the relationship between red-tide alga and bacteria, and also enlightened us the possible use of bacteria in the bio-control of red-tide.

Aestivation is an indispensable state in the life history of sea cucumbers, Apostichopus japonicus. The immune characteristics of the coelomic fluid of A. japonicus, were investigated during aestivation. Samples were collected between July and November 2006 from a coastal pond located off the Yellow Sea in Jiaonan, Shandong Province, China. The total coelomocytes counts (TCC), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), catalase (CAT), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and lysozyme (IZM) in the coelomic fluid were measured. The activities of catecholamines, [adrenaline (AD), noradrenaline (NA), and dopamine (DOP)] were estimated. TCC decreased from July to September, indicating weakness of the cellular immune activity at that time. Activities of SOD, CAT, MPO, and LZM changed significantly from July to October. Catecholamines AD and NA in coelomic fluid were significantly higher on August 21 and November 27. There was no significant variation in DOP during the sampling period. Thus, immune characters in coelomic fluid of A. japonicus changed significantly during aestivation. Water temperature was significantly and negatively correlated with TCC, and salinity was significantly and positively correlated with AD and NA. The mechanism of aestivation in A. japonicus is complex and might not be attributed only to environmental changes, such as temperature and salinity, as shown in previous studies. Substantial nutritional and energetic demands m-e associated with immune activation and the maintenance of an efficient immune system. One-year-old Chlamys farreri (Jones and Preston) scallops were maintained ill lantern nets ill different nutritional conditions (satiation and starvation) for 40 days. After the 40-day treatments, the condition index and the total hemocyte count (THC) decreased significantly in the starved group compared with the satiated and initial control groups. The percentage of phagocytic hemocytes also was significantly reduced with starvation. In contrast. no significant effect of starvation was observed oil reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. The acid phosphatase (ACP) activities in cell-free hemolymph increased significantly in scallops in starved and satiated treatments compared with the initial control. whereas ACP activity in hemocyte lysate was significantly lower ill the starved group. These results indicate that starvation stress compromises immunological activities of scallops.

During winter months, a novel overwintering mode of transferring juvenile abalones to open seawaters in southern China rather than keeping them in closed land-based nursery systems in northern China is a popular practice. The initial size, stocking density and sorting are among the first considerations when establishing an abalone culture system. This study aimed to investigate the effects of these factors on the growth of juvenile Pacific abalone, Haliotis discus hannai Ino, during overwintering. Juvenile abalones were reared in multi-tier basket form for overwintering in open seawaters in southern China for 106 days. The daily growth rates (DGRs) in the shell length of all experimental groups ranged from 67.08 to 135.75 mu m day(-1), while the specific growth rates (SGRs) were 0.2447-0.3259% day(-1). Variance analysis indicated that both DGRs and SGRs in shell length were significantly affected by the initial body size and stocking density. Furthermore, the effects of stocking density on DGRs and SGRs varied with the initial size. However, sorting abalones according to their initial sizes may not be necessary in practice as sorting did not alter growth significantly at all densities in this study. Factors potentially affecting abalone growth such as genetic control and intraspecific competition were discussed.

During tunnel constriction the classification of rock mass is widely used in tunnel design and construction. Moreover it offers the base information about tunnel investment and security. The quick classification of rock mass is very important for not delaying tunnel construction. Nowadays the tunnel engineers usually use initial survey files which are obtained by probe drilling to design a tunnel. It brings the problem that initial surrounding rock classification is usually much different from the real condition during the tunnel construction. Because initial surrounding rock lack credibility, it need us to make real time surrounding rock classification during the tunnel construction, and feed back the result to designers and constructors. Therefore, to find a quick wall rock classification method is very important not only for the time limit for a project but also for not delaying tunnel construction. Not all but many tunnels and underground constructions do suffer form collapse during the period of construction. Although accidental collapse in a large project in civil and geotechnical engineering sometimes appears to be a local event, if it occurred, it can bring about casualties, disrupted, production, construction delay, environmental damage, capital cost etc, therefore, it has been a difficult problem ,both in theory and in practice, establishing how to prevent underground structures form collapse and how to handle such an event in case in occurs. It is important to develop effective solutions and technical measures to prevent and control the collapse. According to the tunnel collapse occurred in Cheng De this paper analyze the main collapse mechanism leading to tunnel collapse and summon up the disposal method when collapse happened. It may be useful for tunnel construction in Cheng De in future. This paper is base on tunnel surrounding rock classification and tunnel support tasks during the tunnel construction in Cheng De area. It aims at solving 4 important problems in tunnel design and construction. 1) The relationship between rock rebound strength and rock single axle compression strength. First we go to the face wall and do rebound test on the tunnel face, then we chose some pieces of rock and do point loading test. Form the tests record we try to find the relationship between rock rebound strength and rock single axle compression strength. 2) The relationship between the value [BQ] and the value Q. First in order to obtain the information of rock character, rock strength, degree of weathering, the structure of rock mass, the joint condition, underground water condition and so on, we go to the tunnel face to do field investigation. And then we use two kinds of rock classification method to make surrounding rock classification. Base on the works above, finally we analyze the relationship between the value [BQ] and the value Q. 3) Sum up the mechanism leading to tunnel collapse and it disposal method in Cheng De area According to the tunnel collapse occurred in Cheng De this paper analyze the main reasons leading to the tunnel collapse and sum up the disposal method when collapse happened. 4) Obtain the properties of steel frame grid by numerical simulation. First we establish the 3D numeral model of steel frame grid by ADINA, and then find the mechanics properties by numerical simulation in ADINA. Second Based on the rock mass geological structure model, we established steel frame grid numeral model which is installed in the tunnel by FLAC3D and simulated the progress of tunnel construction. We hope that the support effect in tunnel can be evaluated from the numerical simulation.

Evaluating the mechanical properties of rock masses is the base of rock engineering design and construction. It has great influence on the safety and cost of rock project. The recognition is inevitable consequence of new engineering activities in rock, including high-rise building, super bridge, complex underground installations, hydraulic project and etc. During the constructions, lots of engineering accidents happened, which bring great damage to people. According to the investigation, many failures are due to choosing improper mechanical properties. ‘Can’t give the proper properties’ becomes one of big problems for theoretic analysis and numerical simulation. Selecting the properties reasonably and effectively is very significant for the planning, design and construction of rock engineering works. A multiple method based on site investigation, theoretic analysis, model test, numerical test and back analysis by artificial neural network is conducted to determine and optimize the mechanical properties for engineering design. The following outcomes are obtained: (1) Mapping of the rock mass structure Detailed geological investigation is the soul of the fine structure description. Based on statistical window, geological sketch and digital photography,a new method for rock mass fine structure in-situ mapping is developed. It has already been taken into practice and received good comments in Baihetan Hydropower Station. (2) Theoretic analysis of rock mass containing intermittent joints The shear strength mechanisms of joint and rock bridge are analyzed respectively. And the multiple modes of failure on different stress condition are summarized and supplied. Then, through introducing deformation compatibility equation in normal direction, the direct shear strength formulation and compression shear strength formulation for coplanar intermittent joints, as well as compression shear strength formulation for ladderlike intermittent joints are deducted respectively. In order to apply the deducted formulation conveniently in the real projects, a relationship between these formulations and Mohr-Coulomb hypothesis is built up. (3) Model test of rock mass containing intermittent joints Model tests are adopted to study the mechanical mechanism of joints to rock masses. The failure modes of rock mass containing intermittent joints are summarized from the model test. Six typical failure modes are found in the test, and brittle failures are the main failure mode. The evolvement processes of shear stress, shear displacement, normal stress and normal displacement are monitored by using rigid servo test machine. And the deformation and failure character during the loading process is analyzed. According to the model test, the failure modes quite depend on the joint distribution, connectivity and stress states. According to the contrastive analysis of complete stress strain curve, different failure developing stages are found in the intact rock, across jointed rock mass and intermittent jointed rock mass. There are four typical stages in the stress strain curve of intact rock, namely shear contraction stage, linear elastic stage, failure stage and residual strength stage. There are three typical stages in the across jointed rock mass, namely linear elastic stage, transition zone and sliding failure stage. Correspondingly, five typical stages are found in the intermittent jointed rock mass, namely linear elastic stage, sliding of joint, steady growth of post-crack, joint coalescence failure, and residual strength. According to strength analysis, the failure envelopes of intact rock and across jointed rock mass are the upper bound and lower bound separately. The strength of intermittent jointed rock mass can be evaluated by reducing the bandwidth of the failure envelope with geo-mechanics analysis. (4) Numerical test of rock mass Two sets of methods, i.e. the distinct element method (DEC) based on in-situ geology mapping and the realistic failure process analysis (RFPA) based on high-definition digital imaging, are developed and introduced. The operation process and analysis results are demonstrated detailedly from the research on parameters of rock mass based on numerical test in the Jinping First Stage Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station. By comparison, the advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Then the applicable fields are figured out respectively. (5) Intelligent evaluation based on artificial neural network (ANN) The characters of both ANN and parameter evaluation of rock mass are discussed and summarized. According to the investigations, ANN has a bright application future in the field of parameter evaluation of rock mass. Intelligent evaluation of mechanical parameters in the Jinping First Stage Hydropower Station is taken as an example to demonstrate the analysis process. The problems in five aspects, i. e. sample selection, network design, initial value selection, learning rate and expected error, are discussed detailedly.

Located in the Central and West African, Chad, which is not well geological explored, is characterized by Mesozoic- Cenozoic intra-continental rift basins. The boreholes exposed that, during Mesozoic-Cenozoic times, volcanic activities were intense in these basins, but study on volcanic rocks is very weak, especially on those embedded in rift basins, and so far systematic and detailed work has still no carried out. Based on the project of China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation, “The analysis of reservoir condition and the evaluation of exploration targets of seven basins in block H in Chad”, and the cooperative project between Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS and CNPC International (Chad) Co. Ltd., “Chronology and geochemistry studies on Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcanic rocks from southwestern Chad Basins”, systematic geochronology, geochemistry and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic geochemistry studies on volcanic rocks from southwestern Chad basins have been done in the thesis for the first time. Detailed geochronological study using whole-rock K-Ar and Ar-Ar methods shows the mainly eruption ages of these volcanic rocks are Late Cretaceous- Paleogene. Volcanic rocks in the well Nere-1 and Figuier-1 from Doba basin are products of the Late Cretaceous which majority of the K-Ar (Ar-Ar) ages fall in the interval 95-75 Ma, whereas volcanic rocks in the well Ronier-1 from Bongor Basin and the Well Acacia-1 from Lake Chad Basin formed in the Paleogene which the ages concentrated in 66-52Ma. Two main periods of volcanic activity can be recognized in the study area, namely, the Late Cretaceous period and the Paleogene period. Volcanic activities have a general trend of south to north migration, but this may be only a local expression, and farther future studies should be carried on. Petrology study exhibits these volcanic rocks from southwestern Chad basins are mainly tholeiitic basalt. Major- and trace elements as well as Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic geochemistry studies show that the late Cretaceous and the Paleogene basalts have a definitely genetic relationship, and magmas which the basalts in southwestern Chad basins derived from were produced by fractional crystallization of olivine and clinopyroxene and had not do suffered from crustal contamination. These basalts are prominently enriched light rare earth elements (LREE), large-ion lithophile elements (LILE) and high field strength elements (HFSE) and depleted compatible elements. They have positive Ba, Pb, Sr, Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf anomalies and negative Th, U, P,Y anomalies. It is possible that the basalts from southwestern Chad basins mainly formed by mixing of depleted mantle (DM) and enriched mantle (EMⅡ) sources. The late Cretaceous basalts have higher (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios than the Paleogene basalts’, whereas have lower (143Nd/144Nd)i ratios than the latter, showing a significant temporal evolution. The mantle sources of the Late Cretaceous basalts may have more enriched mantle(EMⅡ) compositions, whereas those of the Paleogene basalts are relatively more asthenospheric mantle (DM) components. The mantle components with temporal change observed in basalts from Chad basins were probably correlated with the asthenospheric mantle upwelling and lithospheric thinning in Central and Western Africa since Mesozoic. Mesozoic- Cenozoic Volcanism in Chad basins probably is a product of intra- plate extensional stress regime, corresponded to the tectonic setting of the whole West and Central African during Cretaceous. Volcanism is closely correlated with rifting. As time passed from early period to late, the basaltic magma of Chad basins, characterized with shallower genetic depth, higher density and smaller viscosity, probably indicates the gradual strengthening evolution of the rifting. In the initial rife stage, volcanic activities are absent in the study area. Volcanic activities are basiccally corresponded with the strong extensional period of Chad basins, and the eruption of basalts was slightly lagged behind the extensional period. In the post-rift stage (30-0Ma), these basins shifted to the thermal sag phase, volcanic activities in the study area significantly decreased and then terminated.

On the subject of oil and gas exploration, migration is an efficacious technique for imagining structures underground. Wave-equation migration (WEM) dominates over other migration methods in accuracy, despite of higher computational cost. However, the advantages of WEM will emerge as the progress of computer technology. WEM is sensitive to velocity model more than others. Small velocity perturbations result in grate divergence in the image pad. Currently, Kirrchhoff method is still very popular in the exploration industry for the reason of difficult to provide precise velocity model. It is very urgent to figure out a way to migration velocity modeling. This dissertation is mainly devoted to migration velocity analysis method for WEM: 1. In this dissertation, we cataloged wave equation prestack depth migration. The concept of migration is introduced. Then, the analysis is applied to different kinds of extrapolate operator to demonstrate their accuracy and applicability. We derived the DSR and SSR migration method and apply both to 2D model. 2. The output of prestack WEM is in form of common image gathers (CIGs). Angle domain common image gathers (ADCIGs) gained by wave equation are proved to be free of artifacts. They are also the most potential candidates for migration velocity analysis. We discussed how to get ADCIGs by DSR and SSR, and obtained ADCIGs before and after imaging separately. The quality of post stack image is affected by CIGs, only the focused or flattened CIGs generate the correct image. Based on wave equation migration, image could be enhanced by special measures. In this dissertation we use both prestack depth residual migration and time shift imaging condition to improve the image quality. 3. Inaccurate velocities lead to errors of imaging depth and curvature of coherent events in CIGs. The ultimate goal of migration velocity analysis (MVA) is to focus scattered event to correct depth and flatten curving event by updating velocities. The kinematic figures are implicitly presented by focus depth aberration and kinetic figure by amplitude. The initial model of Wave-equation migration velocity analysis (WEMVA) is the output of RMO velocity analysis. For integrity of MVA, we review RMO method in this dissertation. The dissertation discusses the general ideal of RMO velocity analysis for flat and dipping events and the corresponding velocity update formula. Migration velocity analysis is a very time consuming work. Respect to computational convenience, we discus how RMO works for synthetic source record migration. In some extremely situation, RMO method fails. Especially in the areas of poorly illuminated or steep structure, it is very difficult to obtain enough angle information for RMO. WEMVA based on wave extrapolate theory, which successfully overcome the drawback of ray based methods. WEMVA inverses residual velocities with residual images. Based on migration regression, we studied the linearized scattering operator and linearized residual image. The key to WEMVA is the linearized residual image. Residual image obtained by Prestack residual migration, which based on DSR is very inefficient. In this dissertation, we proposed obtaining residual migration by time shift image condition, so that, WEMVA could be implemented by SSR. It evidently reduce the computational cost for this method.

Widespread black chert-shales occur in the Ediacaran-Cambrian(E-C) boundary successions along the flank of Yangtze Platform, South China, remarkable changes in sedimentology, geochemistry and biology were recorded. Although extensive studies were carried out upon this boundary succession, the origin of black chert-shales still remain controversial. This paper focuses on the E-C black chert-shales in western Hunan, South China, upon which detailed depositional and geochemical changes are documented, accordingly a depositional model for black chert-shales is proposed. Stratigraphic anatomy across the depositional strike demonstrates that the shallow-water Dengying dolostone along the platform margin sharply pass basinward into the Liuchapo chert successions, which indicate syndepositional extensional faulting at depth could have occurred along the platform margin. The deep-water Niutitang phosphorite-rich black shales are either underlain by the Dengying dolostones on the platform margin toward platform interior or directly by the Liuchaopo chert successions farther basinwards. By detailed investigation, silica chimneys are firsly identified approximately in the chert along platform margin; two types of silica chimneys, including mounded and splayed/funnelized chert(generally brecciated) bodies are further sorted out. The mounded chert are exitbited by domed or hummocky surfaces on the top and irregular spongy to digitiform internal fabrics; within the silica mounds, abundant original vesicles/voids and/or channels were mostly plugged by initial chalcedony, quartze crystals with minor dolomite and bladed barite crystals. Splayed/funnelized brecciated chert “intrusion” cross-cut the uppermost dolostones capping to the horizon underneath, and are directly overlain by the Niutitang phosphorite-rich black shales. Their similarities to the silica chimneys reported from the oceanic spreading centres suggest a similar origin responsible for these unique silica bodies which is also supported by the microthermonmetric data and element geochemistry. High P, Ba, Fe contents and positive correlation between Fe and TOC concentrations in the Niutitang black shales indicate a high palaeo-productivity in the Early Cambrian ocean. The low Th/U and the high V/Cr, V/Sc, V/(V+Ni) ratios in the black shales suggest an anoxic water condition during this interval. Furthermore, Positive Eu anomalies and high Ba contents in the sediments also imply a hydrothermal influence on the formation of Niutitang black shales. To better constrain the placement of deep-water successions straddling the E-C boundary and the timing of hydrothermal silica chimneys, sensitive high-resoluton ion microprobe(SHRIMP) U-Pb dating of zircon grains from tuffs within the chert succession of Liuchapo Formation at Ganziping was conducted and yields a weighted-mean 206Pb/238Pb age at 536.6±5.5Ma, younger than E-C boundary age(542.0±0.3Ma). This age combined with carbon isotopic data is then proposed to correspond to the U-Pb age of zircons(538.2±1.5Ma) from the Zhongyicun member of Meishucun Formation at Meishucun in eastern Yunna, thus, the E-C boundary in Gazngziping was placed between the Dengying formations and Liuchapo formatioms. therefore, the silica chimneys took place at the beginning of the Cambrian period. The temporal coincidence of silica chimneys and negative excursions of δ13C and δ34Spy pairs suggest hydrothermal activities were likely responsible for the isotopic changes. Under such a circumstance, vast amounts of greenhouse gases(CO2, CH4, H2S), with highly 13C-depleted carbon and 34S-depleted sulfur would be released into the ocean and atmosphere. A positive shift in δ34Scas and Δ34S values from the late Ediacaran to the Early Cambrian could be a reflection of enhanced bacterial sulfate reduction(BSR), strengthened by the intensified oceanic anoxia stimulated by hydrothermal activities. Based on the analyses of sedimentology and geochemistry, a model- “oceanic anoxia induced by hydrothermal–volcanic activies” was proposed to responsible for the formation of black chert-shales during this E-C transition. Under this case, hydrothermal-volcanic activies could release large large amount of greenhouse into atmosphere and metal micronutrients into the ocean, which may lead to global warming, stratified ocean, thereby a high palaeoproductivity; on the other hand, the massive releasing of reduced hydrothermal fluids with abundant H2S, could have in turn enhanced the ocean anoxia. All of these were favourable the for preservation of organic matter, and subsequent extensive deposition of black silica-shales.
