In this paper we analyse the reasons behind the evolution of the gender gap and wage inequality in South and East Asian and Latin American countries. Health human capital improvements, the exposure to free market openness and equal treatment enforcement laws seem to be the main exogenous variables affecting women s economic condition. During the second globalization era (in the years 1975-2000) different combinations of these variables in South East Asian and Latin American countries have had as a result the diminution of the gender gap. The main exception to this rule according to our data is China where economic reforms have been simultaneous to the increase of gender differences and inequality between men and women.This result has further normative consequences for the measure of economic inequality. Theimprovement of women s condition has as a result the diminution of the dispersion of wages.Therefore in most of the countries analysed the consequence of the diminution of the gender gapduring the second global era is the decrease of wage inequality both measured with Gini and Theil indexes.

This paper presents a case study of a well-informed investor in the South Sea bubble. We argue that Hoare's Bank, a fledgling West End London banker, knew that a bubble was in progress and nonetheless invested in the stock; it was profitable to "ride the bubble." Using a unique dataset on daily trades, we show that this sophisticated investor was not constrained by institutional factors such as restrictions on short sales or agency problems. Instead, this study demonstrates that predictable investor sentiment can prevent attacks on a bubble; rational investors may only attack when some coordinating event promotes joint action.

Flies (Diptera, blow flies, house flies, flesh flies, horse flies, cattle flies, deer flies, midges and mosquitoes) are among the four megadiverse insect orders. Several species quickly colonize human cadavers and are potentially useful in forensic studies. One of the major problems with carrion fly identification is the lack of taxonomists or available keys that can identify even the most common species sometimes resulting in erroneous identification. Here we present a key to the adults of 12 families of Diptera whose species are found on carrion, including human corpses. Also, a summary for the most common families of forensic importance in South America, along with a key to the most common species of Calliphoridae, Muscidae, and Fanniidae and to the genera of Sarcophagidae are provided. Drawings of the most important characters for identification are also included.

In a world where poor countries provide weak protection for intellectual propertyrights, market integration shifts technical change in favor of rich nations. Throughthis channel, free trade may amplify international income differences. At the sametime, integration with countries where intellectual property rights are weakly protectedcan slow down the world growth rate. A crucial implication of these results is thatprotection of intellectual property is most beneficial in open countries. This prediction,which is novel in the literature, finds support in the data on a panel of 53 countriesobserved in the years 1965-1990.

A motivação no âmbito organizacional está relacionada à qualidade de desempenho e esforços de seus colaboradores, constituindo a energia motriz para atingir os resultados desejados. Com a chegada da globalização, o avanço tecnológico, aumento da competitividade entre as empresas, custos de contratação, treinamentos e processo de automação industrial, a exigência do melhor desempenho de seus colaboradores está cada vez maior. Por esse motivo, as empresas estão sempre buscando alternativas que motivem seus colaboradores, com o intuito de proporcionar um melhor clima organizacional e desempenho dos seus profissionais. O presente trabalho tem por objectivo estudar a satisfação dos trabalhadores como factores essenciais de motivação e sucesso empresarial no Hotel Marine Club Beach Resort, da ilha de Boa vista. Além de se valorizar o conhecimento técnico e científico do profissional é igualmente importante ter em consideração estas condicionantes (satisfação e motivação no trabalho), que embora sejam de carácter psicológico e emocional, desempenham um papel preponderante na produtividade do trabalhador, acabando por influenciar o sucesso de qualquer empresa. Conclui-se que o grau de motivação e satisfação do hotel é bom, o ambiente organizacional também é satisfatório mas é preciso que o hotel melhora as políticas de gestão tais como, benefícios em relação a promoções, salários e valorização do colaborador para mantê-los motivados e satisfeitos no trabalho.
