Quality of Web-based information on obsessive compulsive disorder.

BACKGROUND: The Internet is increasingly used as a source of information for mental health issues. The burden of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) may lead persons with diagnosed or undiagnosed OCD, and their relatives, to search for good quality information on the Web. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of Web-based information on English-language sites dealing with OCD and to compare the quality of websites found through a general and a medically specialized search engine. METHODS: Keywords related to OCD were entered into Google and OmniMedicalSearch. Websites were assessed on the basis of accountability, interactivity, readability, and content quality. The "Health on the Net" (HON) quality label and the Brief DISCERN scale score were used as possible content quality indicators. Of the 235 links identified, 53 websites were analyzed. RESULTS: The content quality of the OCD websites examined was relatively good. The use of a specialized search engine did not offer an advantage in finding websites with better content quality. A score ≥16 on the Brief DISCERN scale is associated with better content quality. CONCLUSION: This study shows the acceptability of the content quality of OCD websites. There is no advantage in searching for information with a specialized search engine rather than a general one. Practical implications: The Internet offers a number of high quality OCD websites. It remains critical, however, to have a provider-patient talk about the information found on the Web.

Aplicació web per a la monitorització espai-temps de la tuberculosi a Barcelona

L'Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona (ASPB) és responsable del control de les malalties que es poden transmetre i que afecten a la ciutat. A més de la planificació dels plans de vacunació, gestiona programes de control i de recerca de malalties com la Tuberculosi, de la qual coordina aspectes epidemiològics. Amb la finalitat de facilitar les tasques de previsió de l'agència, aquest projecte es realitza per crear una aplicació web SIG que permeti al personal de l'ASPB visualitzar, en una àrea determinada, en un moment de temps concret i sobre un mapa de Barcelona, la informació dels malalts de Tuberculosi. Alhora, podran consultar estadístiques sobre els casos detectats i realitzar consultes a la informació.

Risk Evaluation for Spoofing against a Sensor Supplied with Liveness Detection

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the risks associated with the use of fake fingerprints on a livescan supplied with a method of liveness detection. The method is based on optical properties of the skin. The sensor uses several polarizations and illuminations to capture the information of the different layers of the human skin. These experiments also allow for the determination under which conditions the system is deceived and if there is an influence respectively of the nature of the fake, the mould used for the production or the individuals involved in the attack. These experiments showed that current multispectral sensors can be deceived by the use of fake fingerprints created with or without the cooperation of the subject. Fakes created from direct casts perform better than those produced by fakes created from indirect casts. The results showed that the success of the attack is influenced by two main factors. The first is the quality of the fakes, and by extension the quality of the original fingerprint. The second is the combination of the general patterns involved in the attacks since an appropriate combination can strongly increase the rates of successful attacks.
