A participação em questão: ponto ou contraponto da representação na teoria democrática?

Buscando colocar o tema da participação em questão, este artigo se dedica a uma incursão na teoria democrática, desde seus ideais clássicos até os temas mais atuais da contemporaneidade, de modo a explorar seus significados, observando-se como este mecanismo se relaciona com a idéia de representação.O objetivo é recuperar as relações que conectam a participação à representação na teoria democrática, em contraposição a uma visão predominante de democracia que busca afastá-las, propondo, ao final, uma perspectiva de participação que se apresente, não como estratégia de substituição da democracia representativa, mas como complemento a ela, no sentido do seu aperfeiçoamento.

Violência, ideologia e estranhamento na era das imagens virtuais.

O texto trata do impacto dos videojogos na cultura e na sociedade contemporâneas. Procura demonstrar que nas experiências vivenciadas, através desses jogos e acessórios (óculos, capacetes, joysticks), há uma espécie de simbiose entre a sensação física real e a representação virtual, que permite criar um simulacro da realidade que funciona como um bálsamo para as desesperanças. Para orientar a discussão abordar-se-á dois temas-eixo dos jogos eletrônicos – a violência e o mito do herói – não só por serem recorrentes ou suscitarem polêmica e inquietação particularmente entre não-jogadores, mas por serem reveladores de algumas particularidades da sociabilidade contemporânea.

A representação documentária no processo de indexação com o modelo de leitura documentária para textos científicos e livros: uma abordagem cognitiva com protocolo verbal

The documentary representation in indexing is carried out, at first, in the analysis of subjects to establish the intrinsic and extrinsic aboutness, and then, in the translation stage using the documentary language. The representation by concepts for determining the intrinsic aboutness during the subject analysis is shown by the Documentary Reading Model for indexing of scientific texts and books, Therefore, it was carried out a search on documentary reading for cataloguers for indexing books in academic libraries. A research on catalogers’ documentary reading for indexing books was carried out in nine university libraries. The application of the introspective technique of Individual Verbal Protocol with the catalogers allowed an analysis of subject cataloguing procedures, which made it possible to verify the textual structure parts of a book, as well as to locate the terms identified and selected. The results led to an adaptation of the Documentary Reading Model to book indexing.

Web colaborativa: inovação na criação, proteção e uso legal de informação

In the contemporary world, the Internet enables the development of a Collaborative Web where the decentralization and sharing of information and knowledge generate new cultural configurations of increasing representation in informational flows. In this environment, collaboration and remix practices are covered by a legislation established for another context, and an imbalance is created between what is provided by the technology and what is established by Copyright. Therefore, it is necessary to address, under the perspective of the third time in Information Science, contemporary issues concerning creation, recreation, use, reuse, sharing and dissemination of intellectual content under the legislation which regulates them. This article seeks to highlight the dilemma that contemporaneity is experiencing and how important is for both society as a whole and specially the professional of Information Science to know the legal conditions for the processes of generating, processing, using, recovering and, especially, re-using information on the Web at a larger scale. The Creative Commons licenses are emerging alternatives that offer individuals options to become not only users but also holders and creators of intellectual content under legal conditions.

A representação da natureza no romance francês do século XIX

Busca-se determinar as características da representação da natureza no romance francês do século XIX, analisando-se Paul et Virginie de Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, Les travailleurs de la mer de Victor Hugo e L’Ève future de Villiers de l’Isle-Adam, por meio da teoria sócio-crítica e do embate com o texto. Na primeira parte, faz-se um retrospecto da representação nas artes e na literatura, destacando-se as concepções de Aristóteles e as do Romantismo. Apresenta-se também um panorama das concepções da natureza no tempo e no espaço e reflete-se sobre as relações do homem com o mundo natural, bem como sobre as teorias a elas referentes no âmbito da história, da pintura e da literatura. Na segunda parte, analisam-se os três romances escolhidos, buscando-se neles os modos e os sentidos da representação literária da natureza. Conclui-se pela existência, nas três obras estudadas, de uma atitude ambígua do homem diante da natureza, que havia sido anteriormente detectada na história. Embora diferenciadas entre si, sob alguns aspectos, as representações da natureza no corpus estudado demonstram o registro, no universo literário, de marcas do contexto histórico, político e social em que os três romances foram escritos, publicados e usufruidos.

Caracterização dos usuários do setor urbano privado sujeitos a cobrança pelo uso dos recursos hídricos do Estado de São Paulo nas bacias PCJ e avaliação da demanda de água deste setor como ferramenta de gestão

The present study is about data characterization and evaluation related to private urban users (legal entity) of the Watersheds of the rivers Piracicaba, Capivari, and Jundiai (PCJ), with the PCJ Collection System, sustained by the Department of Water and Power (DAEE), in order to: provide quantitative numbers about this sector, identifying the cities and economic activities corresponding to the largest water consumers, and determine the sector's share in the total charged contribution. The charge for water use is the most recent and the last instrument which has been implemented for the management of water resources, provided by the institution of the State and National Policy of Water Resources in 1991 and 1997, respectively, regarded as an important step towards the preservation and restoration of water resources. According to the data collected in the PCJ Collection System, the urban sector is the private sector that has the highest number of users in these watersheds (52,95% of users), but with less representation in the financial recovery (only 7%), due to its low water demand in their uses compared to the uses of other sectors. The collected data will also serve as both a parameter for comparing the amount of water used by different economic activities and municipalities in the PCJ watersheds and other locations, and as a tool for water resources management
