A novel azo dye containing isoxazole ring and beta-diketone derivative (TIAD) and its two nickel (II) complexes (Ni (II)-ETIAD and Ni (II)-HTIAD) were synthesized in order to obtain a blue-violet light absorption and better thermal stability as a promising organic storage material for next generation of high density digital versatile disc-recordable (HD-DVD-R) systems that uses a high numerical aperture of 0.85 at 405 nm wavelength. Their structures were confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, MS, FT-IR, UV-Vis and magnetic data. Their solubility in 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propanol (TFP) and absorption properties of thin film were measured. The difference of absorption maximum from the complexes to their ligands was discussed. In addition, the TG analysis of the complexes was also determined, and their thermal stability was evaluated. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

O conhecimento sobre o ritmo de crescimento radial e a idade das árvores é um aspecto básico para compreender a dinâmica das populações, bem como o desenvolvimento e a sobrevivência das espécies. Nos trópicos, entretanto, estudos populacionais com este enfoque ainda são escassos, a despeito da urgente necessidade de preservação e manejo de suas florestas. Este trabalho tem por objetivo: i) Descrever a atividade cambial e o comportamento fenológico de Centrolobium robustum (Vell.) Mart. ex Benth., correlacionando estes parâmetros entre si; ii) Avaliar a influência da sazonalidade climática e do fotoperíodo sobre a atividade cambial e o comportamento fenológico e iii) Caracterizar o padrão estrutural dos anéis de crescimento e determinar, a partir destes, a idade e as taxas de crescimento radial da espécie na Reserva Biológica do Tinguá, RJ. Para a análise da atividade cambial, amostras de câmbio foram coletadas trimestralmente, processadas segundo técnicas usuais de anatomia vegetal e observadas sob microscopia ótica de campo claro, de fluorescência, de polarização e microscopia eletrônica de transmissão. O acompanhamento fenológico foi realizado mensalmente e os índices de atividade e de intensidade foram utilizados para analisar as fenofases reprodutivas e vegetativas, respectivamente. Para a investigação dendrocronológica, foram coletadas amostras com auxílio de sonda de Pressler, as quais foram polidas e observadas sob microscópio estereoscópico. Os resultados evidenciaram um ciclo anual de atividade e dormência cambial, caracterizados, respectivamente, pela presença de células em processo de divisão e diferenciação junto ao câmbio e de células completamente diferenciadas e deposição de calose em elementos de tubo crivado adjacentes à zona cambial. A dormência cambial coincidiu com a senescência e queda foliar, enquanto a atividade foi mais evidente na presença de folhas adultas na copa. A sazonalidade da atividade cambial apresentou correlação significativa com os dados de temperatura, precipitação e fotoperíodo do mês de realização das coletas. Foi constatado o regime sazonal da atividade cambial em associação ao clima e ao comportamento fenológico da espécie, conferindo caráter anual aos anéis de crescimento. Os resultados permitiram estabelecer o padrão dendroecológico de C. robustum e as idades e taxas de crescimento da população estudada.

This article analyzes changes in the occupational employment share in Spain for the period 1997-2012 and the way particular sociodemographic groups adapt to those changes. There seems to be clear evidence of employment polarization between 1997 and 2012 that accelerates over the recession. Changes in the composition of the labour supply cannot explain the increase in the share of occupations at the low end of the wage distribution. Sector reallocation may have partially contributed to explain the polarization process in Spain during the years of expansion (1997-2007) but it is a minor factor during the recession. The polarization of occupations within sectors observed, especially during the recession, appears to be related to a decline in routine tasks which is compensated by an increase in occupations with non-routine service contents, which are found both in the low and high end of the wage distribution. Instead, jobs with a higher degree of abstract contents do not appear to increase their share in total employment during these 15 years. The paper finds that this process has affected males more strongly than females because of their higher concentration in occupations more focused on routine tasks. Among males, for workers under 30 years old, we find a decrease in the share of occupations with more routine tasks which turns into increases in those with more abstract content and particularly with more non-routine service content. Instead, male workers over 30 years old seem to remain in declining occupations to a greater extent. Females of different ages are not affected by the abovementioned changes.

Broadband infrared luminescence centred at around 1300 nm with full-width at half maximum of about 342 nm was observed from transparent Ni2+-doped lithium-alumino-silicate glass-ceramics embedded with beta-eucryptite crystallines. The room temperature fluorescent lifetime was 98 mu s. The transparent glass-ceramics may have potential applications in a widely tunable laser and a super-broadband optical amplifier for optical communications.

A polarization modulator based on splitting with a Savart plate and rotation of an analyzer for a moire system with grating imaging is presented, and its modulation principle is analyzed. The polarization modulator is simple and achromatic. It is composed of a polarizer, a Savart plate, and an analyzer. The polarizer and the Savart plate are placed in front of the index grating to split the image of the scale grating in the moire system. The analyzer is placed behind the grating and rotated to realize the modulation of the moire signal. The analyzer can be rotated either continually with high speed or step by step with low speed to form different modulation modes. The polarization modulator makes the moire system insensitive to the change of initial intensity. In experiments, we verified the usefulness of the polarization modulator.

在Mie散射理论基础上,由单分散射的光强表达式导出在偏振光的入射条件下一定立体角内的散射光通量的表达式,并与自然光入射作比较。计算了在相同强度不同光源入射下,尘埃粒子计数器的两种常用散射光收集系统收集的散射光通量。结果表明:采用近前向散射光收集系统得到的光通量相等;而采用直角方向散射光收集系统时两者并不相等,且在平面偏振光入射时,收集的散射光通量还跟探测器中心与入射光偏振方向夹角有关。用MATLAB编程计算,得出了在探测器中心与偏振方向的夹角成90°或270°位置时,收集的散射光通量有极值的结论,为激光尘

YAlO3 single crystal doped with Ce3+ at concentration 1% was grown by the temperature gradient technique. The as-grown crystal was pink. After H-2 annealing or air annealing at 1400degreesC for 20 h, the crystal was turned into colorless. We concluded there were two kinds of color centers in the as-grown crystal. One is F+ center attributed to absorption band peaking at about 530 nm, the other is O- center attributed to absorption band peaking at about 390 nm. This color centers model can be applied in explaining the experiment phenomena including the color changes, the absorption spectra changes, and the light yield changes of Ce:YAP crystals before and after annealing. We report on the realization of ZnO homojunction light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fabricated by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition on (0001) ZnO bulk substrate. The p-type ZnO epilayer was formed by nitrogen incorporation using N2O gas as oxidizing and doping sources. Distinct electroluminescence (EL) emissions in the blue and yellow regions were observed at room temperature by the naked eye under forward bias. The EL peak energy coincided with the photoluminescence peak energy of the ZnO epilayer, suggesting that the EL emissions emerge from the ZnO epilayer. In addition, the current-voltage and light output-voltage characteristics of ZnO homojunction LEDs have also been studied. (c) 2006 American Institute of Physics.

Studies were carried out to assess some macro and trace elements of mineral composition of the male and female Heterobranchus bidorsalis adults exposed to graded concentrations (1.00-8.00m/L-1) of Bonny-light crude oil (BLCO). The experiment was monitored for 4 days (toxicity) and 42days (recovery) periods. Significant decreases (P < 0.05)in the sodium (Na), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), vanadium (Va), lead (Pb) and manganese (Mn) contents of the male H. bidorsalis corresponded with the increasing concentrations of BLCO. In contrast, the female fishes recorded significant increases (P < 0.05) in the values of the above elements in their tissues as the concentrations of BLCO increased. Furthermore, the values of Na, K, Mg, Ca, P, Zn, Fe, Va, Pb and Mn recorded in the male fishes where generally lower than those of their female counterparts and the control fish. Increased values of these elements were also recorded during the recovery periods (days 14, 28 and 42) of this study in the magnitudes of 15% at day 14, 20% at day 28 and 20% at day 42. This implied that the removal of crude oil stress during this period improved the quantity of these minerals deposited in the fish tissues. The highest percent proportion of Zn and the lowest proportion of Pb recorded in both male and female H. bidorsalis adults agreed with the report of other workers for other fish species. Periodic nanostructures along the polarization direction of light are observed inside silica glasses and tellurium dioxide single crystal after irradiation by a focused single femtosecond laser beam. Backscattering electron images of the irradiated spot inside silica glass reveal a periodic structure of stripe-like regions of similar to 20 nm width with a low oxygen concentration. In the case of the tellurium dioxide single crystal, secondary electron images within the focal spot show the formation of a periodic structure of voids with 30 nm width. Oxygen defects in a silica glass and voids in a tellurium dioxide single crystal are aligned perpendicular to the laser polarization direction. These are the smallest nanostructures below the diffraction limit of light, which are formed inside transparent materials. The phenomenon is interpreted in terms of interference between the incident light field and the electric field of electron plasma wave generated in the bulk of material.
