This study evaluated the occurrence of enteric bacteria and pseudomonads resistant to tetracycline and beta-lactams in the oral cavity of patients exhibiting gingivitis (n=89); periodontitis (n=79), periodontally healthy (n=50) and wearing complete dentures (n=41). Microbial identification and presence of resistance markers associated with the production of beta-lactamases and tetracycline resistance were performed by using biochemical tests and PCR. Susceptibility tests were carried out in 201 isolates of enteric cocci and rods. Resistance to ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, imipenem, meropenem and tetracycline was detected in 57.4%, 34.6%, 2.4%, 1.9% and 36.5% of the isolates, respectively. beta-lactamase production was observed in 41.2% of tested microorganisms, while the most commonly found beta-lactamase genetic determinant was gene bla(TEM). Tetracycline resistance was disseminated and a wide scope of tet genes were detected in all studied microbial genus.

This pilot study aimed to identify the effects of a 6-month, multimodal exercise program on clinical and gait parameters in patients with Parkinson's disease. Two groups of participants were enrolled in the study: Trained Group (TG) and Control Group (CG). Individuals in the TG exercised three times a week for 24 weeks (in a multimodal exercise program), while the CG participants maintained their regular activity level. Participants in both the TG and the CG were assessed at pre- and posttest by clinical rates and the spatiotemporal parameters of self-paced walking. The two groups were not significantly different in demographic, clinical, and gait data at baseline. There were no significant differences between groups for clinical data at posttest. The purposed multimodal exercise program has found improvement in some kinematic gait parameters for the TG. Further study in the form of randomized controlled trial would be required to establish effectiveness of the intervention.

Many incisions have been described for approaches to zygomatic fractures. Precise repositioning of zygomatic complex fractures is difficult. The traditional approach is through an eyebrow incision, but it can produce a scar that causes aesthetic and psychological problems for the patient. We describe the supratarsal fold approach to expose the frontozygomatic suture and to reduce small displacements of frontal sinus anterior wall; it gives good access and excellent aesthetic results.

The zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) is the second highly incidental of facial fractures. According to the anatomical complexity, there are many reports in the literature about this trauma, mainly related to treatment for these fractures. With the purpose of evaluating clinically and radiographically the stability of unilateral zygomatic fractures treated by surgical reduction and fixed in two points by stable internal fixation, this research was proposed. Twenty patients with zygomatic fractures were evaluated and compared with twenty nonfractured patients. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences among the obtained data, perimeter and area, of the treated and contra-lateral sides of the experimental group. When compared to the control group the differences were not statistically significant. We also performed a comparison of the distance between the nasal bone and zygomatic prominence in all groups the results were also satisfactory.

The zygomatic-maxillary complex due to its projection framed as one of the areas hardest hit by injuries, as well as the nasal bones. Component important in this context, the zygomatic arch fracture is under the direct action of forces due to its structure fragile, resulting in loss of normal convex curvature. Therefore, it is aimed to report a clinical case of male patient, who had leucoderma zygomatic bone fracture using access transcutaneous and intra-oral fracture reduction body of zygoma and zygomatic arch. In addition to evidence combination of closed and open techniques for solving the case. The technique provided the patient excellent cosmetic and functional results.

The osteoradionecrosis (ORN) during long was considered as hum type of osteomyelitis spent bone, being one of the major complications of radiotherapy head and neck. This complicate are presents despite advances in the treatment of cancer patients, Therefore, the objective of this work was to emphasize the main factors predisposing ORN, its clinical features and treatment through a literature review.

Keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT is benign, featuring controversies in diagnosis and treatment. It occurs mainly in the region of the mandibular angle, which may or may not be related to a tooth and whose importance is due to its aggressive behavior and high recurrence rate. The causes of high rates of relapse observed in this lesion are dependent on factors such as age, location and size of lesion, gender, type of treatment and histological variant. The thin capsule and friable connective tissue of KCOT may favor the retention of epithelial debris responsible for the high proliferative capacity of this clinical entity. Due to the aggressiveness with its recurrence this paper aims to conduct a literature review addressing clinical and imaging aspects, composes the histopathological diagnosis of KCOT.

Fundamentation: The correction of maxillary transverse deficiencies involves orthodontic and surgical procedures that can be performed before or after skeletal maturity. The surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SAR ME) is performed by osteotomies through the lateral walls of the maxilla, zygomatic and canines buttresses, palatal and pterygomaxillary sutures, causing the maxillary disjunction. Followed by activation of the expander to the desired over-expansion in order to correct intercuspal later. Objective: The purpose of this study was to discuss the issues involved in the diagnosis of maxillary atresia, SAR ME indications, as well as surgical technique, through a case study. Methods: The male patient, 19 years old, had severe transverse maxillary deficiency with facial pattern III , Class III , with great lip incompetence. The patient underwent general anesthesia in a hospital environment, the osteotomies was done according to the technique described by Epker and Wolford (1980). Postoperatively, the patient underwent activations daily for 15 days and after 6 months, the orthodontist installed fixed orthodontic appliance to prepare the patient to orthognathic surgery later. Conclusion: The diagnosis by clinical evaluation and models study is essential for the indication of SAR ME and this procedure provides good predictability in the correction of transverse deficiency, with minimal morbidity.

The choice of surgical approach to diseases that affect the pre-auricular region has been subject of much discussion in the literature. Access pre-hearing, have been used with high compliance rate of success, and during the history of surgery, several modifications were made in this approach with the goal of reducing the irreversible consequences especially regarding common in condylar fractures as paralysis and facial scars. The views range from the indication of surgical treatment for all fractures, until the conviction that no fracture of the bone segment should be surgically treated. Therefore, this study is of relevance, since offers surgeons warn about the care on the anatomical structures involved in these surgical approaches and describe, seeking a comparison between them, the advantages of them by means of a literature review covering from the extensive bouts of Bellinger (1940) and Al-Kayat (1979) that provide a broad view of the surgical field to access modified and increasingly smaller as the endaural (2001) which not only allows a satisfactory field of aesthetics as maintenance the patient without any signs of scarring.

Introduction: The treatment of mandibular fractures has undergone many changes, especially after the introduction of rigid internal fixation techniques. Currently, the use of resorbable materials presents some advantages over metallic devices, particularly when applied in children. Objective: The authors discuss the controversies involved in the treatment of mandibular fractures in children, mainly related to fixation of fractures. Case Report: In this paper, we present a case of a 5 years treatment patient with mandibular angle fracture treated by open reduction and internal fixation with plates and screws. Final Comments: Aiming to not interfere in the development of tooth germs and mandibular bone growth a second surgery for removal of the fixation devices is indicated.
