Drinfeld twists and algebraic bethe ansatz of the supersymmetric model associated with U-q(gl(m vertical bar n))

We construct the Drinfeld twists (or factorizing F-matrices) of the supersymmetric model associated with quantum superalgebra U-q(gl(m vertical bar n)), and obtain the completely symmetric representations of the creation operators of the model in the F-basis provided by the F-matrix. As an application of our general results, we present the explicit expressions of the Bethe vectors in the F-basis for the U-q(gl(2 vertical bar 1))-model (the quantum t-J model).

A Bethe ansatz solvable model for superpositions of Cooper pairs and condensed molecular bosons

We introduce a general Hamiltonian describing coherent superpositions of Cooper pairs and condensed molecular bosons. For particular choices of the coupling parameters, the model is integrable. One integrable manifold, as well as the Bethe ansatz solution, was found by Dukelsky et al. [J. Dukelsky, G.G. Dussel, C. Esebbag, S. Pittel, Phys. Rev. Lett. 93 (2004) 050403]. Here we show that there is a second integrable manifold, established using the boundary quantum inverse scattering method. In this manner we obtain the exact solution by means of the algebraic Bethe ansatz. In the case where the Cooper pair energies are degenerate we examine the relationship between the spectrum of these integrable Hamiltonians and the quasi-exactly solvable spectrum of particular Schrodinger operators. For the solution we derive here the potential of the Schrodinger operator is given in terms of hyperbolic functions. For the solution derived by Dukelsky et al., loc. cit. the potential is sextic and the wavefunctions obey PT-symmetric boundary conditions. This latter case provides a novel example of an integrable Hermitian Hamiltonian acting on a Fock space whose states map into a Hilbert space of PE-symmetric wavefunctions defined on a contour in the complex plane. Error-correcting codes on a Bethe-like lattice

We analyse Gallager codes by employing a simple mean-field approximation that distorts the model geometry and preserves important interactions between sites. The method naturally recovers the probability propagation decoding algorithm as a minimization of a proper free-energy. We find a thermodynamical phase transition that coincides with information theoretical upper-bounds and explain the practical code performance in terms of the free-energy landscape.

Migration und Utopie im deutschen Gegenwartskino am Beispiel von Achim von Borries’ "England!" und Hans-Christian Schmids "Lichter"

Achim von Borries’ England! and Hans-Christian Schmid’s Distant Lights [Lichter] are two key examples of how the current issue of (economic) migration from eastern to western Europe is explored in contemporary German cinema. Set in two locations that act as places of transit for migrants from the east - the capital Berlin and the economically depressed border region along the river Oder - the films show their characters’ utopian strive for a better future. Even though they deal with it in very different ways, both films emphasise the heightened role of the imagination in a globalised world and highlight its problematic consequences.

Hans Blumenberg and Feminism

The German philosopher Hans Blumenberg [1920-1996] was interested in feminist issues during the last two decades of his life as shown their dedication and effort in compiling selected cuts in the media related to the topic of women and their development of multiple short essays inspired by the latter and countless curious anecdotes. Hans Blumenberg and feminism seeks to inform the reader about the existence of a blumenberguian thought line of research totally unexplored so far. It can only be revealed through the study of the philosopher ‘Nachlaβ’ found in the Deutsches literaturarchiv Marbach (Stuttgart) which I personally had a chance to dig through the award of a research grant from the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Dienst Austage).
