[EN]In the course of a sondage dug in the rock shelter of J3, in the Jaizkibel mountains (at the north-western tip of Guipúzcoa), the body of a adult man was located buried inside a shell midden. This shell midden had not been disturbed and presented internal stratigraphy features. In any case, the outer edge of the shell midden does show some interesting interdigitation with the adjacent habitational layers, with evidence of different stages of occupation. Within the shell midden itself, under the individual buried there, it was possible to observe layers without any ceramics, whereas the layers covering said individual included ceramic fragments. This individual has been dated to 8,300 BP and therefore corresponds to a Mesolithic context.

The potential of mefluidide (N-(2,4-dimethyl-5[[trifluromethyl) sulfonyl] amino] phenol) acetamide) to act as a submersed aquatic plant growth regulator was evaluated using a laboratory bioassay system. Main stem elongation of hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) Royle) and Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) was effectively reduced by mefluidide at low concentrations. The lowest effective concentration of mefluidide that reduced stem length in Eurasian watermilfoil (100 yg a.i./L) was 5 times lower than that for hydrilla (500 yg a.i./L). Short-term net photosynthetic rates of these plants were not affected by mefluidide at concentrations as high as 1000 yg a.i./L. The minimum exposure time required to maintain an inhibitory effect for at least 28 days at a concentration of 500 yg ai.i./L was 3 to 7 days for Eurasian watermilfoil and 7 to 14 days for hydrilla. The results suggest that mefluidide is a more effective growth regulator for Eurasian watermilfoil than hydrilla. Exogenously applied gibberellic acid (GA) did not completely overcome the inhibitory effect of mefluidide even when GA was added at a high concentration (10-5 M). In addition, the internodal lengths of stems treated with mefluidide were not reduced as they were when treated with gibberellin synthesis inhibitors. The reduction of main stem elongation by mefluidide appeared to be due to the inhibition of new cell and tissue development at the stem tip rather than from inhibition of GA biosynthesis.

In this paper, TASCflow3D is used to solve inner and outer 3D viscous incompressible turbulent flow (R-e = 5.6 X 10(6)) around axisymmetric body with duct. The governing equation is a RANS equation with standard k-epsilon turbulence model. The discrete method used is a finite volume method based on the finite element approach. In this method, the description of geometry is very flexible and at the same time important conservative properties are retained. The multi-block and algebraic multi-grid techniques are used for the convergence acceleration. Agreement between experimental results and calculation is good. It indicates that this novel approach can be used to simulate complex flow such as the interaction between rotor and stator or propulsion systems containing tip clearance and cavitation.

The crack tip driving force of a crack growing from a pre-crack that is perpendicular to and terminating at an interface between two materials is investigated using a linear fracture mechanics theory. The analysis is performed both for a crack penetrating the interface, growing straight ahead, and for a crack deflecting into the interface. The results from finite element calculations are compared with asymptotic solutions for infinitesimally small crack extensions. The solution is found to be accurate even for fairly large amounts of crack growth. Further, by comparing the crack tip driving force of the deflected crack with that of the penetrating crack, it is shown how to control the path of the crack by choosing the adhesion of the interface relative to the material toughness.

The present paper aims to develop a robust spherical indentation-based method to extract material plastic properties. For this purpose, a new consideration of-piling-up effect is incorporated into the expanding cavity model; an extensive numerical study on the similarity Solution has also been performed. As a consequence, two semi-theoretical relations between the indentation response and material plastic properties are derived, with which plastic properties of materials can be identified from a single instrumented spherical indentation curve, the advantage being that this approach no longer needs estimations of contact radius with given elastic modulus. Moreover, the inconvenience in using multiple indenters with different tip angles can be avoided. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses show that the present algorithm is reliable. Also, by experimental verification performed oil three typical materials, good agreement of the material properties between those obtained from the reverse algorithm and experimental data is obtained.

A recoverable plate impact testing technology has been used for studying the growth mechanisms of mode II crack. The results show that interactions of microcracks ahead of a crack tip cause the crack growth unsteadily. Failure mode transitions of materials were observed. Based on the observations, a discontinuous crack growth model was established. Analysis shows that the shear crack grows unsteady as the growth speed is between the Rayleigh wave speed c(R) and the shear wave speed c(s); however, when the growth speed approaches root 2c(s), the crack grows steadily. The transient microcrack growth makes the main crack speed to jump from subsonic to intersonic and the steady growth of all the sub-cracks leads the main crack to grow stably at an intersonic speed.

Two stages have been observed in micro-indentation experiment of a soft film on a hard substrate. In the first stage, the hardness of the thin film decreases with increasing depth of indentation when indentation is shallow; and in the second stage, the hardness of the film increases with increasing depth of indentation when the indenter tip approaches the hard substrate. In this paper, the new strain gradient theory is used to analyze the micro-indentation behavior of a soft film on a hard substrate. Meanwhile, the classic plastic theory is also applied to investigating the problem. Comparing two theoretical results with the experiment data, one can find that the strain gradient theory can describe the experiment data at both the shallow and deep indentation depths quite well, while the classic theory can't explain the experiment results.

By applying for molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and Griffith fracture criterion, the brittle behavior of crack extension of mode I type is investigated. The critical stress intensity factor (SIF)K-Ic(MD) of crack extension is calculated, and the evolution of atoms near crack tip is observed. It is found that K-Ic(MD) is in good agreement with the Griffith ftacture criterion K-Ic(Griffith).

A steady-state subsonic interface crack propagating between an elastic solid and a rigid substrate with crack face contact is studied. Two cases with respective to the contact length are considered, i.e., semi-infinite and finite crack face contact. Different from a stationary or an open subsonic interface crack, stress singularity at the crack tip in the present paper is found to be non-oscillatory. Furthermore, in the semi-infinite contact case, the singularity of the stress field near the crack tip is less than 1/2. In the finite contact case, no singularity exists near the crack tip, but less than 1/2 singularity does at the end of the contact zone. In both cases, the singularity depends on the linear contact coefficient and the crack speed. Asymptotic solutions near the crack tip are given and analyzed. In order to satisfy the contact conditions, reasonable region of the linear contact coefficient is found. In addition, the solution predicts a non-zero-energy dissipation rate due to crack face contact.

This study indicates that 13 species of congrid larvae belonging to 8 genera occur in the eastern Pacific. The species are: Ariosoma gilberti; Paraconger californiensis; Paraconger sp.; P. dentatus; Chiloconger labiatus; Taenioconger digueti; T. canabus; Gorgasia punctata; G. obtusa; Gnathophis catalinensis; Hildebrandia nitens; Bathycongrus macrurus; and B. varidens. The morphological and anatomical changes undergone during metamorphosis are useful in the identification of the larvae. Larvae are distributed closer to the coastal waters, and are more common from January to May than from June to December. A key to the larvae was developed based on the myotomal counts, adult vertebral counts, pigmentation patterns, and the nature of the teeth and tail tip to distinguish the genera and species. This study shows that Garman's unidentified larvae, Atopichthys acus and A. cingulus, are two different larval stages of Ariosoma gilberti, and points out that Atopichthys dentatus and A. obtusus belong to Paraconger and Gorgasia, respectively. 长期以来,材料的孔洞损伤一直是力学家和材料学家所关注的焦点之一,相应的研究方法很多,所得到的成果也很丰富。但是这些研究大部分是基于单个孔洞或有限个孔洞来考虑的,很少将大量的孔洞损伤作为整体来探讨。本文就是考虑到在韧性金属合金材料的破坏和失效过程中,往往是有大量的孔洞损伤参与其中的。我们试图将这些作为整体来考虑,并着重对初始裂纹钝化扩展过程的裂尖前沿来进行研究和讨论。本文从微孔洞数密度守恒方程出发,讨论了裂尖前沿孔洞损伤数密度群体化的方程以及它的解,探讨了损伤各阶矩的分布形式和演化规律。并且对一个系列低碳合金钢样品的I型初始裂纹的钝化扩展和断口孔洞的观察和统计的结果与计算模拟的结果进行了比较,得到了相同的趋势。计算模拟和试验的结果表明,在裂尖前沿孔洞损伤的群体演化过程中,损伤矩的分布是随着离开裂尖距离增加而减少的,并且这种分布随时间增加而且增加,并且趋于稳定分布。最后根据实验中反映出来的由于材料内部的不均匀等造成的孔洞损伤演化的不均匀性,引入随机涨落的概念导出局域孔洞数密度演化守恒方程来探讨这种不均匀性,通过模拟计算得到平均场理论和局域孔洞数密度守恒理论的差异,并由全场孔洞数密度演化守恒方程的分析来证实这个差异。

The aim of this study was to examine areas in which fishermen cooperatives can become involved and then suggest operational guidelines in order to increase fishermen income and also to make the Green Revolution Programme a success through increased production of fish. The paper enumerated different areas in which fishermen cooperatives can participate. These include: thrift and credits, thrift and savings, consumers and building cooperative societies. It is the belief of the author that the expansion of fishermen cooperatives into the areas mentioned in this paper can enable members to process and market their products more economically, buy supplies and equipment in large quantities and obtain lower cost credit

Energy functions (or characteristic functions) and basic equations for ferroelectrics in use today are given by those for ordinary dielectrics in the physical and mechanical communications. Based on these basic equations and energy functions, the finite element computation of the nonlinear behavior of the ferroelectrics has been carried out by several research groups. However, it is difficult to process the finite element computation further after domain switching, and the computation results are remarkably deviating from the experimental results. For the crack problem, the iterative solution of the finite element calculation could not converge and the solutions for fields near the crack tip oscillate. In order to finish the calculation smoothly, the finite element formulation should be modified to neglect the equivalent nodal load produced by spontaneous polarization gradient. Meanwhile, certain energy functions for ferroelectrics in use today are not compatible with the constitutive equations of ferroelectrics and need to be modified. This paper proposes a set of new formulae of the energy functions for ferroelectrics. With regard to the new formulae of the energy functions, the new basic equations for ferroelectrics are derived and can reasonably explain the question in the current finite element analysis for ferroelectrics.
