The largest area of preserved Atlantic forest is located in the southern portion of Brazil. The region of Paranapiacaba is depicted in Brazilian zoological studies as one of the first and most intensely sampled areas of the state of São Paulo. We provide a concise list of reptiles and amphibians from the Paranapiacaba Municipal Park. It represents the first comprehensive survey of the group in the area. We recorded 136 species of reptiles and amphibians from field surveys, museum collections and the literature. The anuran diversity of Paranapiacaba is greater than that of Estação Ecológica de Boracéia, which has been considered the most distinctive areas in São Paulo in terms of amphibian diversity. The rich history of herpetological research in the region, including the occurrence of the two most threatened species in Brazil, converts the area to an important conservation landmark for the Brazilian herpetofauna.

The successive crises for which has passed in the world economy since the years 1970, together with the United States 'hegemonic crisis, have created the conditions for the reordering and the construction of a multipolar world, with the increasing importance of some peripheral countries into the world economy, particularly with regard to capital flows. This paper proposes to investigate a specific fragment of the history of Japanese immigration to Brazil: labor relations during the period before the outcome of World War II. To this end, choosing oral history as a research method, and assumptions of historical materialism as a theoretical framework, we sought to examine the accounts of experiences remembered by a group of elderly women in this community of immigrant settlers. Theys participated both in the São Paulo coffee work in the first decades of the twentieth century, as the planting of cotton, in the 1930s.

The spatial formation of Rio Claro city preserves several features of the problematic transition from the slave to remunerated labor in the late 20th, when the tacit ethnic bipolar sociability standard emerged, imprinting “black” and “white” forms to the city’s urban space. The ethnic social clubs José do Patrocínio and Tamoio, are two objects of ethnic groups’ exclusive use. Such ethnic social clubs indicate the existence of conflicts in their formation, as well as in their present existence, they are forms that preserve in themselves the codes and histories of the local black movement’s fight for their rights and for an autonomous place in the local society. In the present context the spaces are increasingly subjected to commercial interests and the spirits are embedded in confusion. What is the value of these spaces for the subjects who built them? The versions and narratives from oral accounts will allow us to understand the existing dimensions in the relation between the places and the memory, evidencing the importance of the patrimony and the patrimonial policies to the cities in the present historical period of geographic space globalization

The oral records, deprived of great rhetoric elaboration, mark the family accounts and the testimonies about remarkable and apparently minor particularities of grand conflicts, like the World War II. The oral memory fulfilled an important function of historical transmission, especially in handing on to written record the organization of testimonies, revealing personal memories in the form of letters, diaries and narratives, besides of integrating itself to several works of fiction. In the present work we present the value of former partigiani’s testimonies collected in the volume Io sono l’ultimo (I am the last one) as evocation and transmission of personal remembrances strongly linked to the conflict and as manifestations in the literary field as well. The valuing by descendants and fellow countrymen of a tradition of memory communication make the testimony of men and women that fought for the liberation of many Italian locations much more than fragmented reports when the interested reader in the memory of those that survived, integrated to the micro-history of the events, perceive its expressive logic. We explore both the meaning of witness adopted by Giorgio Agamben and the esthetical value of the traumatized voice in the perspective of Márcio Seligman-Silva.
