Pseudorandom generators are a basic foundation of many cryptographic services and information security protocols. We propose a modification of a previously published matricial pseudorandom generator that significantly improves performance and security. Most cryptographic services and information security protocols require a dependable source of random data; pseudorandom generators are convenient and efficient for this application working as one of the basic foundation blocks on which to build the required security infrastructure. We propose a modification of a previously published matricial pseudorandom generator that significantly improves performance and security by using word packed matrices and modifying key scheduling and bit extraction schemes. The resulting generator is then successfully compared to world class standards.

This research paper deals with the evolution of the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) produced in the mixed liquor of two 25 L bench-scale membrane bioreactors (MBRs), with micro (MF-MBR) and ultrafiltration (UF-MBR) submerged membranes. The conclusion focuses on the relationship between the operation and how EPS respond, demonstrating that significant changes in EPS concentration were commonly observed when abrupt changes in the operational conditions took place. Bound EPS (EPSb) showed moderate positive statistical correlations with sludge age and MLSS for the two MBRs. Soluble EPS (EPSs), on the other hand, showed a moderate negative statistical correlation between EPSs with the two parameters analyzed for MF-MBR and no correlation with the UF-MBR was found. With respect to the composition of EPS, EPSb were mostly made up of proteins (44–46%) whereas in EPSs, the three components (proteins, carbohydrates, and humic substances) appeared in approximately the same proportion. The statistical analysis exhibited strong positive correlations between EPSb and their constituents, however for EPSs, the correlation was strong only with carbohydrates and moderate with humic substances.

Thermal analysis methods (differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis) were used to characterize the nature of polyester-melamine coating matrices prepared under nonisothermal, high-temperature, rapid-cure conditions. The results were interpreted in terms of the formation of two interpenetrating networks with different glass-transition temperatures (a cocondensed polyester-melamine network and a self-condensed melamine-melamine network), a phenomenon not generally seen in chemically similar, isothermally cured matrices. The self-condensed network manifested at high melamine levels, but the relative concentrations of the two networks were critically dependent on the cure conditions. The optimal cure (defined in terms of the attainment of a peak metal temperature) was achieved at different oven temperatures and different oven dwell times, and so the actual energy absorbed varied over a wide range. Careful control of the energy absorption, by the selection of appropriate cure conditions, controlled the relative concentrations of the two networks and, therefore, the flexibility and hardness of the resultant coatings. The las and rhl quorum sensing (QS) systems regulate the expression of several genes in response to cell density changes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Many of these genes encode surface-associated or secreted virulence factors. Proteins from stationary phase culture supernatants were collected from wild-type and P. aeruginosa PAO1 mutants deficient in one or more of the lasRI, rhIRI and vfr genes and analysed using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. All mutants released significantly lower amounts of protein than the wild-type. Protein spot patterns from each strain were compared using image analysis and visible spot differences were identified using mass spectrometry. Several previously unknown OS-regulated proteins were characterized, including an aminopeptidase (PA2939), an endoproteinase (PrpL) and a unique 'hypothetical' protein (PA0572), which could not be detected in the culture supernatants of Delta/as mutants, although they were unaffected in Deltarhl mutants. Chitin-binding protein (CbpD) and a hypothetical protein (PA4944) with similarity to host factor I (HF-1) could not be detected when any of the lasRI or rhIRI genes were disrupted. Fourteen proteins were present at significantly greater levels in the culture supernatants of OS mutants, suggesting that QS may also negatively control the expression of some genes. Increased levels of two-partner secretion exoproteins (PA0041 and PA4625) were observed and may be linked to increased stability of their cognate transporters in a CS-defective background. Known QS-regulated extracellular proteins, including elastase (lasB), LasA protease (lasA) and alkaline metalloproteinase (aprA) were also detected.
