Experimental-study on the criteria and mechanism of spallation in an aluminum-alloy

In this paper, a damage function defined by the residual strength of spalled specimens of an aluminium alloy is given to characterize the spallation of the material. Based on this function a simple method for continuously describing the spallation may be developed. Stress wave profiles showing the signal of spallation were successfully obtained with carbon gauges. Microscopic observations of the spalled aluminium alloy specimens reveal that the nucleation of spallation initiates from cracking of the second phase particles. Spallation is a process of crack nucleation, growth and coalescence to final, complete disintegration.

Singularity criteria for perturbation series

This paper is concerned with some mathematical aspects of the Van Dyke method inperturbation theory, i.e. the singularity criteria of perturbation series. The author suggestsa sign criterion and a Domb-syke plot for the cases with complex conjugate singularities, thussucceeding in extending the conclusions of Van Dyke's. Subsequently. effects of singularitiesof the lower order upon the criteria are taken into account. In addition, a method of locat-ing singular points is developed by analysing the new perturbation series derived by the Eulertransformation.

El valor de marca: perspectivas de análisis y criterios de estimación

[ES] A lo largo de la última década, se ha originado un importante debate acerca de lo que debe entenderse por valor de marca. En la delimitación de este concepto se han utilizado varias perspectivas de análisis y criterios de estimación muy diferentes, de ahí que aún exista sobre este tema una excesiva ambigüedad. En este trabajo se presenta un marco teórico donde se contemplan distintas perspectivas de estudio y varios criterios de estimación del valor de marca. A partir de este marco, se analizan empíricamente siete criterios de estimación de acuerdo con la información recogida de una muestra de usuarios sobre seis marcas de zapatillas de deporte. Con ello se pretende contribuir a un mejor conocimiento del concepto de valor de marca.

Interim report on surface water resources of Baker County, Florida

The principal sources of surface-water supplies inBaker County are the St. Marys River and its tributaries. However, the flow of many of the small tributaries is intermittent, and without storage they are not dependable sources of supply during sustained periods of deficient rainfall. Of the six stream-gaging stations in Baker County for which complete records are available, one has been in operation for 31 years and provides a long-term record upon which to base correlative estimates for extending the short-term records at the other stations. All available streamflow data to 1957 have been summarized in graphic or tabular form. The hydrologic balance between minimum streamflows and increased evaporation losses afforded by potential shallow reservoirs provides design criteria for determining the maximum surface area of effective reservoir that can be created at a selected site within Baker County. Mapping and Distribution of Torpedograss and Evaluating the Effectiveness of Torpedograss Management Activities in Lake Okeechobee, Florida

Thousands of hectares of native plants and shallow open water habitat have been displaced in Lake Okeechobee’s marsh by the invasive exotic species torpedograss ( Panicum repens L.). The rate of torpedograss expansion, it’s areal distribution and the efficacy of herbicide treatments used to control torpedograss in the lake’s marsh were quantified using aerial color infra red (IR) photography.(PDF has 6 pages.)

Selectivity of Metsulfuron Methyl to Six Common Littoral Species in Florida

Many Central Florida lakes, particularly those in the Kissimmee River watershed, are maintained 0.5 to 1.0 m lower than historic (pre-1960) levels during the summer hurricane season for flood control purposes. These lower water levels have allowed proliferation and formation of dense monotypic populations of pickerelweed ( Pontederia cordata L.) and other broadleaf species that out compete more desirable native grasses (Hulon, pers. comm., 2002). Due to the limited availability of data on the effects of metsulfuron methyl on wetland plants, particularly in Florida, the present study was carried out with the objective of testing its phytotoxicity on six wetland species, to determine the feasibility of its use for primary pickerelweed control.
