Well-defined polyacrylonitrile with a higher number-average molecular weight (R.) up to 200,000 and a lower polydispersity index (PDI, 1.7-2.0) was firstly obtained via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. This was achieved by selecting a stable, easy way to prepare disulfide compound intermediates including bis(thiobenzoyl) disulfide (BTBDS) and bis(thiophenylacetoyl) disulfide (BTPADS) to react with azobis(isobutyronitrile) to directly synthesize RAFT agents in situ.

A supramolecular complex [Cu(phen)(2)H2O]{[Cu(phen)(H2O)](2)[C6AS]}center dot 2.5H(2)O (phen = 1,10'-phenanthroline and C6AS = p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene) has been synthesized under hydrothermal condition, and characterized by IR spectroscopy, TG analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In the structure, unprecedented 1D ({[Cu(phen)(H2O)](2)[C(6)AS]}(2-))(n) coordination chains (exactly being belts) are stacked into some 2D layers by the pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions, which are further interconnected into a 3D extended structure by hydrogen bonding.

The dumbbell-like calixarene bicapsule in two novel Ln(III)-C4AS compounds was found to be a hexanuclear Ln(III)/phenanthroline/p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene oligomer. The magnetic and luminescent properties of these compounds were examined.
Structures and physical properties of n=3 Ruddlesden-Popper compounds Ca4Mn3-xNbxO10 (0 <= x <= 0.2)
Resumo:
The Ruddlesden-Popper series of compounds Ca4Mn3-xNbxO10(x = 0-0.2) have been prepared by solid-state methods. Structural, magnetic, electrical, and magnetoresistive studies were performed on the compounds. Nb doping caused increases in both unit cell volume and octahedral distortion. The magnetization measurements indicated that the doped samples displayed ferromagnetism-like behavior, which could be explained by the double-exchange interaction between Mn4+ and Mn3+ induced by the charge-compensation effect.

Various organometallic compounds (diphenylzinc, dibenzylzinc, dicyclohexylzinc, bis( pentafluorophenyl) zinc, diethylzinc, di(n-butyl) zinc, triethylaluminum) were used to form Y(CCl3COO)(3)-organometallic compound-glycerol catalyst for the copolymerization of carbon dioxide and propylene oxide. It was found that Y(CCl3COO)(3)-diphenylzinc-glycerol catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity, at optimum conditions the yield could be as high as 478.8 ( g polymer/mol Zn h).

A new approach to one-dimensional organization of gold nanoparticles (2-4 nm) is described, using poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) molecular chain as a template with the mediation of free Cu2+ ion coordination. The assembly was conducted on freshly prepared mica surfaces and in aqueous solution, respectively. The surface assembly was characterized by tapping mode atomic force microscopy (AFM), observing the physisorbed molecules in their chain-like conformation with an average height of 0.4 nm.

Based on the aromatic dicarboxylic acid and N-donor ligands with different conformations, four Zn(II) metal-organic frameworks, namely [Zn(mfda)(L-1)](1), [Zn-2(mfda)(2)(L-2)]center dot DMF center dot H2O (2), [Zn-2(mfda)(2)(L-3)(H2O)]center dot DMF (3) and [Zn-2(mfda)(2)(L-4)] (4) have been synthesized (mfda = 9,9-dimethylfluorene-2,7-dicarboxylate anion, L-1 = 1,10-phenanthroline, L-2 = 4,4 '-bipyridine, L-3 = 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-ocadiazole and L-4 = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction has revealed that all compounds exhibit entangled structures. Compound 1 is composed of 1D zigzag chains that are entangled through the pi-pi stacking interactions to generate a three-fold interpenetrating diamond-like networks.

The effect of combination between a trace of halogenated compounds (such as ferric chloride and ammonium bromide) and Ni2O3 particles on the carbonization of polypropylene (PP) was investigated during combustion. The results showed a synergistic catalysis of combined halogenated compounds with Ni2O3 in promoting the formation of the residual char during combustion. The investigation on the promotion mechanism showed that halide radical releasing from halogen-containing additives worked as a catalyst to accelerate dehydrogenation-aromatization of degradation products of PR which promote the degradation products to form the residual char catalyzed by nickel catalyst.

Two 3d-4f heterometallic compounds of p-tert-butylsulfinylcalix[4] arene were synthesized by the solvothermal method and characterized by some hinged double-dumbbell-like subunits in which two perpendicular dumbbell entities were constructed by an in-between isosceles triangle Mn(II)Ln(2)(III), and two tail-to-tail calixarene molecules, and hinged by the lanthanide-sulfinyl group bonding. The magnetic properties of the title compounds were examined.

Five new compounds of sulfonylcalix[4]arenetetrasulfonate (SC4AS), [H7Na(H2O)(3)(SC4AS)(phen)(5)](H2O)(11.9) (1), [H6Mn(H2O)(4)(SC4AS)(phen)(5)] (H2O)(12.7) (2), [Cu-4(SC4AS) (phen)(6)] (H2O)(4.5) (3), {[Cu (2)(SC4AS) (bpy)(2)][Cu(bpy)(2)(H2O)](2)} (H2O)(6.6) (4), and {[Zn-2(SC4AS) (phen)(2)][Zn(phen)(2)(H2O)(2)](2)} (H2O)(7) (5) (where phen 1,10-phenanthroline and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and structurally determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The SC4AS ligand adopts partial cone conformation in compounds 1 and 2 and 1,2-alternate form in compounds 3-5. According to the structural analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we suggest that the metal can affect the conformation of SC4AS.

This paper reports the syntheses, crystal structures, and luminescent and magnetic properties of four tetranuclear Tb-III (1 and 3) and Dy-III (2 and 4) complexes supported by p-phenylthiacalix[4]arene (H(4)PTC4A) and p-tert-butylthiacalix-[4]arene (H(4)TC4A). All four frameworks can be formulated as [Ln(4)(III)(PTC4A/TC4A)(2)(mu(4)-OH)Cl-3(CH3OH)(2)(H2O)(3)], and some methanol and water solvent molecules are occupied in the interstices. The compounds are featured with a sandwichlike unit constructed by two tail-to-tail calixarene molecules and a planar tetragonal (mu(4)-OH)Ln(4) cluster. The photoluminescent analyses suggest that there is an efficient ligand-to-Ln(III) energy transfer for compounds 1-3 and H(4)PTC4A is a more efficient "antenna" than H(4)TC4A.

Starburst-substituted hexaazatriphenylene Compounds have been designed and synthesized by introducing various peripheral aryl substituents to the central heterocyclic core. The effects of various substituent groups on the photophysical and electrochemical properties of the substituted hexaazatriphenylene have been investigated. Significant red-shifts of the absorption peak (from 413 nm to 530 nm) and emission peak (from 432 nm to 700 nm) were observed when the electron-donating ability of the aryl substituents was increased, corresponding to a decrease in the band gap from 2.90 eV to 2.05 eV. Introducing bulky substituents with weak electron-donating ability enhances the fluorescence quantum yield from 23% to 87%. In contrast, incorporating aryl substituents with strong electron-donating ability decreases the fluorescence quantum yield.

The title compound, [Cu-2(C9H10NO3)(2)(NO3)(2)(C10H8N2)-(H2O)(2)](n), contains Cu-II atoms and L-tyrosinate (L-tyr) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands in a 2:2:1 ratio. Each Cu atom is coordinated by one amino N atom and two carboxylate O atoms from two L-tyr ligands, one N atom from a 4,4'-bipy ligand, a monodentate nitrate ion and a water molecule in an elongated octahedral geometry. Adjacent Cu atoms are bridged by the bidentate carboxylate groups into a chain. These chains are further linked by the bridging 4,4'-bipy ligands, forming an undulated chiral two-dimensional sheet. O-H center dot center dot center dot O and N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds connect the sheets in the [100] direction. This study offers useful information for the engineering of chiral coordination polymers with amino acids and 4,4'-bipy ligands by considering the ratios of the metal ion and organic components.
