This paper describes the use of Bluetooth and Java-Based technologies in developing a multi-player mobile game in ubiquitous computing, which strongly depends on automatic contextual reconfiguration and context-triggered actions. Our investigation focuses on an extended form of ubiquitous computing which game software developers utilize to develop games for players. We have developed an experimental ubiquitous computing application that provides context-aware services to game server and game players in a mobile distributed computing system. Obviously, contextual services provide useful information in a context-aware system. However, designing a context-aware game is still a daunting task and much theoretical and practical research remains to be done to reach the ubiquitous computing era. In this paper, we present the overall architecture and discuss, in detail, the implementation steps taken to create a Bluetooth and Java based context-aware game. We develop a multi-player game server and prepare the client and server codes in ubiquitous computing, providing adaptive routines to handle connection information requests, logging and context formatting and delivery for automatic contextual reconfiguration and context-triggered actions. © 2010 Binary Information Press.

This research has been the aim understanding the senses that managers attribute to school management of the Child Education from his owner teacher high degree formation and his professional culture. The need to research about the sense attributed to the school management of the Child Education by the managers could be considered as contribute to school management studies in the manager team perspective itself. It depart from idea that attributed senses reveal the reinvention process of the professional culture those escape from a regard less attentive and take divers forms, been construct and reconstruct in the social interactions in the live quotidian of school community. The empirical investigation has developed in the Centro Municipal de Educação Infantil (CMEI) Marilanda Bezerra, located in Natal city (RN), during the years of 2012-2013. The methodology is endorsed in the qualitative approach with character of an ethnography type research in education having as main information’s construction tools the semi structured comprehensive interview. This permit (by the interlocutor’s oral discourse) the interpretation of the senses and values selfattributed to hers actions, the personal notebook of ground registers, the record of the interpretative analysis, the evolutionary plans and the participant observation. It distinguish auteurs as Jean-Claude Kaufmann, Adir Ferreira, Sônia Kramer, Álvaro Marchesi, Júlia Oliveira-Formosinho, Maurice Tardif, Telmo Caria, Andy Hargreaves; those supported this paper theoretically and methodologically. The analysis and the experience interpretation point to the possibilities of sharing actions of the Child Education unity with the community, featuring the importance of a participant and collaborative school management practice of the CMEI, highlight the value of this school management possibilities more horizontal and interactive in an essay of constitute a democratic and critical space to the professional culture, with a decisive participation of the managers team. This educational manager form has demonstrated sensibility, creativity, innovation and the possibility of social transformation through institutional action and Child Education teacher’s practices, cohabiting with the challenges, the dilemmas and the problems of work quotidian and the lacunas of a fragmentary formation.

Up to 2.3 m long sediment sequences were recovered from the deepest part of Lake Hoare in Taylor Valley, southern Victoria Land, Antarctica. Sedimentological, biogeochemical, and mineralogical analyses revealed a high spatial variability of these parameters in Lake Hoare. Five distinct lithological units were recognized. Radiocarbon dating of bulk organic carbon samples from the sediment sequences yielded apparently too old ages and significant age reversals, which prevented the establishment of reliable age-depth models. However, cross correlation of the sedimentary characteristics with those of sediment records from neighbouring Lake Fryxell indicates that the lowermost two units of the Lake Hoare sediment sequences were probably deposited during the final phase of proglacial Lake Washburn, which occupied Taylor Valley during the late Pleistocene and early Holocene. High amounts of angular gravel and the absence of fine-grained material imply a complete desiccation with subaerial conditions in the Lake Hoare basin in the middle of the Holocene. The late Holocene (< c. 3300 calendar yr BP) is characterized by the establishment of environmental conditions similar to those existing today. A late Holocene desiccation event, such as proposed in former studies, is not indicated in the sediment sequences recovered.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Commercial Space Transportation (AST) has set specific rules and generic guidelines to cover experimental and operational flights by industry forerunners such as Virgin Galactic and XCOR. One such guideline Advisory Circular (AC) 437.55-1[1] contains exemplar hazard analyses for spacecraft designers and operators to follow under an experimental permit. The FAA's rules and guidelines have also been ratified in a report to the United States Congress, Analysis of Human Space Flight Safety[2] which cites that the industry is too immature and has 'insufficient data' to be proscriptive and that 'defining a minimum set of criteria for human spaceflight service providers is potentially problematic' in order not to 'stifle the emerging industry'. The authors of this paper acknowledge the immaturity of the industry and discuss the problematic issues that Design Organisations and Operators now face.

Between May 1920 and March 1923, there were seventy-three houses belonging to the County Cork establishment burnt down by IRA and anti-treaty forces. More houses were destroyed by this method in Cork than in any other Irish county in the same timeframe. The establishment were targeted by the IRA for their political, military and social persuasions that were essentially in opposition to the nationalist movement. The motivations behind these burnings is examined, the main reasons being reprisals for actions taken by Crown forces, military reasons, loyalty of house owners to the British government and agrarianism. The geographical distribution of these burnings is also provided to reveal how active individual IRA brigades were that operated within the county. Though there were few areas of the county left unaffected by the occurrence of arson attacks, there were higher concentrations of burnings in some areas. The house burnings in County Cork did not conform to the national pattern of house burnings and the reasons for this are explored. This study argues that the presence of Crown forces in Cork and their implementation of an official reprisal policy in January 1921 escalated military conflict, and arson attacks became a key tactic utilised by IRA forces in response to this policy. The aftermath of house burnings for members of the establishment is revealed through the various compensation committees that were formed after both the War of Independence and Civil War. Key sources for this study included personal papers of both the establishment and military figures, IRA witness statements, local and national newspapers, the 1901 and 1911 Irish Censuses, Colonial Office Papers, compensation claims filed with the British government and Irish Free State, and others from archives throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom.
