Some conceptual difficulties regarding "net" multipliers

Multipliers are routinely used for impact evaluation of private projects and public policies at the national and subnational levels. Oosterhaven and Stelder (2002) correctly pointed out the misuse of standard 'gross' multipliers and proposed the concept of 'net' multiplier as a solution to this bad practice. We prove their proposal is not well founded. We do so by showing that supporting theorems are faulty in enunciation and demonstration. The proofs are flawed due to an analytical error but the theorems themselves cannot be salvaged as generic, non-curiosum counterexamples demonstrate. We also provide a general analytical framework for multipliers and, using it, we show that standard 'gross' multipliers are all that is needed within the interindustry model since they follow the causal logic of the economic model, are well defined and independent of exogenous shocks, and are interpretable as predictors for change.

El cloud journalism : un nuevo concepto de producción para el periodismo del siglo XXI

La profunda transformación que está experimentando el periodismo, y la mitosis mediática entre el periodismo tradicional y el digital, está generando, amén de cambios en los contenidos y los géneros periodísticos, una mutación en las formas tecnológicas de publicar esos contenidos y de acceder de forma distribuida, escalable y flexible a nuevas fuentes gracias a Internet: es lo que denominamos cloud journalism. La Sociedad de la Banda Ancha ofrece un abanico de posibilidades que los profesionales del periodismo pueden aprovechar para rentabilizar más su producción y para mejorar su calidad. El grid journalism, el utility journalism o el Journalism as a Service (JaaS), en una dinámica de ASP (Application Service Provider), son otros nuevos conceptos que adaptan el funcionamiento tecnológico de los entornos grid al ámbito de la comunicación y del periodismo.

Perifollicular erythema as a trichoscopy sign of progression in frontal fibrosing alopecia.

INTRODUCTION Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in an entity characterized by the recession of the frontotemporal hairline (FTHL) with alopecic scarring change. In recent years there are numerous articles discussing the usefulness of dermoscopy for the clinical diagnosis of different types of scarring alopecia. MATERIALS AND METHODS We value 79 patients diagnosed with FFA, evaluating some trichoscopical findings described as typical for FFA: Absence of follicular opening, follicular hyperkeratosis, follicular plugs and erythema. RESULTS In a population of 79 women, 100% showed no follicular opening, 72.1% follicular hyperkeratosis, 66.3% perifollicular erythema and 44.8% follicular plugs. Thus, 100% of patients had at least one of the dermoscopic elements described as suggestive of FFA, 53% two of them, 45% three and 27%, all those elements. Perifollicular erythema was present in 95% of cases in which the disease was active. CONCLUSIONS We consider that the presence of perifollicular erythema will be a direct marker of FFA activity.

Metastatic Crohn’s disease.

A 51 year old man presented to the department of Dermatology, Regional University Hospital of Málaga, Málaga, Spain, in May 2013, with remarkable lesions on the perineal, perianal and gluteal regions reaching the top of the lower limbs, which he had first noted two years earlier. The physical examination revealed large erythematous-brownish plaques with a granulomatous appearance, polypoid lesions and areas of ulceration. In addition, Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture and serum QuantiFERON® TB Gold were negative. The patient was diagnosed to have metastatic Crohn’s disease which is an uncommon complication of Crohn’s disease.

Aquest projecte pertany a l'àrea J2EE de l'assignatura TFC. Consisteix en el desenvolupament d'una aplicació web per catalogar còmics de qualsevol tipus. Aquesta aplicació té com a objectiu donar un servei còmode i funcional per satisfer les necessitats dels col·leccionistes de còmics, incorporant funcionalitats no existents en altres aplicacions actuals. La seva arquitectura principal està basada en Struts 2 i Hibernate, i fa servir diversos patrons com MVC, Generic Data Acces Objects o Abstract Factory.

La finalidad de este proyecto es la construcción de un framework para la capa de presentación para aplicaciones web bajo la plataforma J2EE.

Modelling changes in stable isotope compositions of minerals during net transfer reactions in a contact aureole: Wollastonite growth at the northern Hunter Mountain Batholith (Death Valley National Park, USA)

One of the world's largest wollastonite deposits was formed at the contact of the northern Hunter Mountain Batholith (California, USA) in Paleozoic sediments. Wollastonite occurs as zones of variable thickness surrounding layers or nodules of quartzite in limestones. A minimum formation temperature of 650 degrees C is estimated from isolated periclase-bearing lenses in that area. Contact metamorphism of siliceous carbonates has produced mineral assemblages that are consistent with heterogeneous, and partly limited infiltration of water-rich fluids, compatible with O-18/O-16 and C-13/C-12 isotopic patterns recorded in carbonates. Oxygen isotope compositions of wollastonites in the study area may also not require infiltration of large quantities of externally-derived fluids that were out of equilibrium with the rocks. 8180 values of wollastonite are high (14.8 parts per thousand to 25.0 parts per thousand; median: 19.7 parts per thousand) and close to those of the host limestone (19.7 parts per thousand to 28 parts per thousand; median: 24.9 parts per thousand) and quartz (18.0 parts per thousand. to 29.1 parts per thousand; median: 22.6 parts per thousand). Isotopic disequilibrium exists at quartz/wollastonite and wollastonite/calcite boundaries. Therefore, classical batch/Rayleigh fractionation models based on reactant and product equilibrium are not applicable to the wollastonite rims. An approach that relies on local instantaneous mass balance for the reactants, based on the wollastonite-forming reaction is suggested as an alternative way to model wollastonite reaction rims. This model reproduces many of the measured delta O-18 values of wollastonite reaction rims of the current study to within +/- 1 parts per thousand, even though the wollastonite compositions vary by almost 10 parts per thousand. Desarrollo de una tienda virtual

El siguiente proyecto consiste en el desarrollo de una tienda virtual dedicada a la venta de vino ecológico. El objetivo a grandes rasgos de la tienda virtual no debe ser diferente al de una tienda física. Además de la propia tecnología J2EE, se han utilizado patrones de diseño (MVC), frameworks (Struts2, JavaEmail), contenido web (JSP, CSS) y tratamientos de bases de datos (SQL).
