The time evolution of the out-of-equilibrium Mott insulator is investigated numerically through calculations of space-time-resolved density and entropy profiles resulting from the release of a gas of ultracold fermionic atoms from an optical trap. For adiabatic, moderate and sudden switching-off of the trapping potential, the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the Mott insulator is found to differ profoundly from that of the band insulator and the metallic phase, displaying a self-induced stability that is robust within a wide range of densities, system sizes and interaction strengths. The connection between the entanglement entropy and changes of phase, known for equilibrium situations, is found to extend to the out-of-equilibrium regime. The Pinguino deposit, located in the low sulfidation epithermal metallogenetical province of the Deseado Massif, Patagonia, Argentina, represents a distinct deposit type in the region. It evolved through two different mineralization events: an early In-bearing polymetallic event that introduced In, Zn, Pb, Ag, Cd, Au, As, Cu, Sn, W and Bi represented by complex sulfide mineralogy, and a late Ag-Au quartz-rich vein type that crosscut and overprints the early polymetallic mineralization. The indium-bearing polymetallic mineralization developed in three stages: an early Cu-Au-In-As-Sn-W-Bi stage (Ps(1)), a Zn-Pb-Ag-In-Cd-Sb stage (Ps(2)) and a late Zn-In-Cd (Ps(3)). Indium concentrations in the polymetallic veins show a wide range (3.4 to 1,184 ppm In). The highest indium values (up to 1,184 ppm) relate to the Ps(2) mineralization stage, and are associated with Fe-rich sphalerites, although significant In enrichment (up to 159 ppm) is also present in the Ps(1) paragenesis associated with Sn-minerals (ferrokesterite and cassiterite). The hydrothermal alteration associated with the polymetallic mineralization is characterized by advanced argillic alteration within the immediate vein zone, and sericitic alteration enveloping the vein zone. Fluid inclusion studies indicate homogenisation temperatures of 308.2-327A degrees C for Ps(1) and 255-312.4A degrees C for Ps(2), and low to moderate salinities (2 to 5 eq.wt.% NaCl and 4 to 9 eq.wt.% NaCl, respectively). delta(34)S values of sulfide minerals (+0.76aEuro degrees to +3.61aEuro degrees) indicate a possible magmatic source for the sulfur in the polymetallic mineralization while Pb isotope ratios for the sulfides and magmatic rocks ((206)Pb/(204)Pb, (207)Pb/(204)Pb and (208)Pb/(204)Pb ratios of 17.379 to 18.502; 15.588 to 15.730 and 38.234 to 38.756, respectively) are consistent with the possibility that the Pb reservoirs for both had the same crustal source. Spatial relationships, hydrothermal alteration styles, S and Pb isotopic data suggest a probable genetic relation between the polymetallic mineralization and dioritic intrusions that could have been the source of metals and hydrothermal fluids. Mineralization paragenesis, alteration mineralogy, geochemical signatures, fluid inclusion data and isotopic data, confirm that the In-bearing polymetallic mineralization from Pinguino deposit is a distinct type, in comparison with the well-known epithermal low sulfidation mineralization from the Deseado Massif.

The Araes gold deposit, located in eastern Mato Grosso State, central Brazil, is hosted in Neoproterozoic volcanosedimentary rocks of the Paraguay belt, which formed during collision of the Amazonian craton and the Rio Apa block. Ar-40/Ar-39 geochronology and Pb and S isotopic analyses constrain the timing and sources of mineralization. Three biotite flakes from two samples of metavolcanic host rock yield Ar-40/Ar-39 plateau ages between 5941 and 531 Ma, interpreted as cooling ages following regional metamorphism. Clay minerals from a hydrothermal alteration zone yield an Ar-40/Ar-39 integrated age of 503 +/- 3 Ma. Galena grains from ore-bearing veins yield values of Pb-206/(204)pb from 17.952 to 18.383, Pb-207/Pb-204 from 15.156 to 15.811, and Pb-208/Pb-204 from 38.072 to 39.681. Pyrite grains from ore-bearing veins yield values of Pb-206/Pb-204 from 18.037 to 18.202, Pb-207/Pb-204 from 15.744 to 15.901., and Pb-208/(204)pb from 38.338 to 38.800. Pb isotope variations may be explained in terms of mixing a less radiogenic lead component (mu similar to 8.4) from mafic and ultramafic basement host-rocks (Nova Xavantina metavolcanosedimentary rocks) and a more radiogenic lead component (mu similar to 9.2) probably derived from supracrustal rocks (Cuiaba sedimentary groups). Sulfur isotope compositions are homogeneous, with delta S-34 values ranging from -1.1 parts per thousand to 0.9 parts per thousand (galena) and -0.7 parts per thousand to 0.9 parts per thousand (pyrite), suggesting a mantle-derived reservoir for the mineralizing solutions. Based on the Ar, Pb, and S isotope data, we suggest that the precious metals were remobilized from metavolcanic host rocks by hydrothermal solutions during Brasilide-Panafrican regional metamorphism. The Arabs gold deposit probably formed during a late stage of the orogeny, coeval with other mineralization events in the Paraguay Belt.

Commonly used in archaeological contexts, micromorphology did not see a parallel advance in the field of experimental archaeology. Drawing from early work conducted in the 1990`s on ethnohistoric sites in the Beagle Channel, we analyze a set of 25 thin sections taken from control features and experimental tests. The control features include animal pathways and environmental contexts (beach samples, forest litter, soils from the proximities of archaeological sites), while the experimental samples comprise anthropic structures, such as hearths, and valves of Mytilus edulis (the most important component of shell middens in the region) heated from 200 degrees C to 800 degrees C. Their micromorphological study constitutes a modern analogue to assist archaeologists studying site formation and ethnographical settings in cold climates, with particular emphasis on shell midden contexts. The relative contributions to the specificity and catalysis of aglycone, of residues E190, E194, K201 and M453 that form the aglycone-binding site of a beta-glycosidase from Spodoptera frugiperda (EC 3.2.1.21), were investigated through site-directed mutagenesis and enzyme kinetic experiments. The results showed that E190 favors the binding of the initial portion of alkyl-type aglycones (up to the sixth methylene group) and also the first glucose unit of oligosaccharidic aglycones, whereas a balance between interactions with E194 and K201 determines the preference for glucose units versus alkyl moieties. E194 favors the binding of alkyl moieties, whereas K201 is more relevant for the binding of glucose units, in spite of its favorable interaction with alkyl moieties. The three residues E190, E194 and K201 reduce the affinity for phenyl moieties. In addition, M453 favors the binding of the second glucose unit of oligosaccharidic aglycones and also of the initial portion of alkyl-type aglycones. None of the residues investigated interacted with the terminal portion of alkyl-type aglycones. It was also demonstrated that E190, E194, K201 and M453 similarly contribute to stabilize ES double dagger. Their interactions with aglycone are individually weaker than those formed by residues interacting with glycone, but their joint catalytic effects are similar. Finally, these interactions with aglycone do not influence glycone binding.

Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) is a hematophagous insect that transmits the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas` disease. Its saliva contains trialysin, a protein that forms pores in membranes. Peptides based on the N-terminus of trialysin lyse cells and fold into alpha-helical amphipathic segments resembling antimicrobial peptides. Using a specific antiserum against trialysin, we show here that trialysin is synthesized as a precursor that is less active than the protein released after saliva secretion. A synthetic peptide flanked by a fluorophore and a quencher including the acidic proregion and the lytic N-terminus of the protein is also less active against cells and liposomes, increasing activity upon proteolysis. Activation changes the peptide conformation as observed by fluorescence increase and CD spectroscopy. This mechanism of activation could provide a way to impair the toxic effects of trialysin inside the salivary glands, thus restricting damaging lytic activity to the bite site.

N-Trifluoracyl beta-chalcogeno amides and N-perfluoracyl beta-thio amide ligands were prepared by a simple and efficient reaction sequence. These new ligands were evaluated in palladium-catalyzed alkylation of rac-(E)-1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate in the presence of dimethyl malonate and an enantioselectivity of up to 99% was obtained. After catalysis, the fluorous ligand can be easily recovered by liquid-liquid extraction and reused without loss in the activity. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

We examined the effect of storage time on culture viability and some rheological properties (yield stress, storage modulus, loss modulus, linear viscoelastic region, structural recuperation and firmness) of fermented milk made with Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus, Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA) and Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis in coculture with Streptococcus thermophilus (ST). Acidification profiles and factors that affect viability (postfermentation acidification, acidity and dissolved oxygen) were also studied during 35 days at 4C. Fermented milk prepared with a coculture of ST and Bifidobacterium lactis gave the most constant rheological behavior and the best cell viability during cold storage; it was superior to ST plus LA for probiotic fermented milk production.

Chitosan, a biopolymer obtained from chitin, and its derivates, such as chitosan hydrochloride, has been reported as wound healing accelerators and as possible bone substitutes for tissue engineering, and therefore these Substances could be relevant in dentistry and periodontology. The purpose of this investigation was to make a histological evaluation of chitosan and chitosan hydrochloride biomaterials (gels) used in the correction of critical size bone defects made in rat`s calvaria. Bone defects of 8 mm in diameter were surgically created in the calviria of 50 Holtzman (Rattus norvegicus) rats and filled with blood clot (control), low molecular weight chitosan, high molecular weight chitosan, low molecular weight chitosan hydrochloride, and high molecular weight chitosan hydrochloride, numbering 10 animals, divided into two experimental periods (15 and 60 days), for each biomaterial. The histological evaluation was made based on the morphology of the new-formed tissues in defect`s region, and the results indicated that there was no statistical difference between the groups when the new bone formation in the entire defect`s area were compared (p > 0.05) and, except in the control groups, assorted degrees of inflammation Could be Seen. In Conclusion, chitosan and chitosan hydrochloride biomaterials used in this study were not able to promote new bone formation in critical size defects made in rat`s calvaria. In recent years, there has been a great interest in the development of biomaterials that could be used in the repair of bone defects. Collagen matrix (CM) has the advantage that it can be modified chemically to improve its mechanical properties. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of three-dimensional membranes of native or anionic (submitted to alkaline treatment for 48 or 96 h) collagen matrix on the consolidation of osteoporosis bone fractures resulting from the gonadal hormone alterations caused by ovariectomy in rats subjected to hormone replacement therapy. The animals received the implants 4 months after ovariectomy and were sacrificed 8 weeks after implantation of the membranes into 4-mm wide bone defects created in the distal third of the femur with a surgical bur. Macroscopic analysis revealed the absence of pathological alterations in the implanted areas, suggesting that the material was biocompatible. Microscopic analysis showed a lower amount of bone ingrowth in the areas receiving the native membrane compared to the bone defects filled with the anionic membranes. In ovariectomized animals receiving anionic membranes, a delay in bone regeneration was observed mainly in animals not subjected to hormone replacement therapy. We conclude that anionic membranes treated with alkaline solution for 48 and 96 h presented better results in terms of bone ingrowth.

Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva riskfaktorer som påverkade uppkomsten av trycksår samt de vanligaste förekommande preventiva åtgärderna. Vidare var syftet att beskriva sjuksköterskans roll vid förebyggandet samt behandlingen av trycksår. De vetenskapliga artiklar (n=21) som ingick i studien söktes manuellt samt datoriserat via databaserna Blackwell Synergy, CHINAL, Elin@Dalarna och Elsiever. Inklusionskriterierna var att de skulle vara vetenskapliga samt av kvalitativ och kvantitativ design. Även litteraturstudier inkluderades. Artiklarna skulle vara publicerade 1990 eller senare och vara svensk eller engelskspråkiga. Resultatet visade att patienter med lågt nutritionsstatus och låga serum albuminvärden riskerade att utveckla trycksår. En annan stor riskgrupp var patienter i peri- och postoperativa skeden där operationstiden kraftigt inverkade på uppkomsten av sår. Även anestesiformen spelade roll. Trycksåren uppkom vanligen på hälarna och korsbenet. I preventativt syfte var evidensbaserade mätskalor viktiga. Även trycksårsreducerande madrasser visade sig vara betydelsefulla. Vidare framkom att hälso- och sjukvårdspersonalen visade ett svalt intresse för trycksår och att kvalitetssäkringen var bristfällig. Sjuksköterskan hade främst en informerande roll inom trycksårspreventionen. Såren rengjordes lämpligast med fysiologisk koksaltlösning och omlades med våt omläggning. Resultatet visade även att smärtanalyser i högre grad borde involveras i trycksårsbehandlingen.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur gymnasieelever uppfattar skolans demokratiska fostrande roll samt hur den lokala skolan har lyckats i sin roll som demokratiska fostrare. För att svara på syftet har vi ställt följande frågeställningar: Hur medvetna är eleverna egentligen om skolans demokratiska fostrande roll? Vilken typ av regler anser eleverna vara de viktigaste? Stämmer de demokratiska mål som presenteras i den undersökta skolans arbetsplan och skolplan väl överens med de mål som finns i läroplanen Lpf 94 och skollagen?Det använda källmaterialet består av enkätundersökningar gjorda med elever som går årskurs 3 på gymnasiet samt även arbetsplan och skolplan från den undersökta skolan. Resultaten visar på att eleverna är medvetna om skolans demokratiska fostrande roll i de flesta aspekterna. Däremot visar undersökningen på att det praktiska arbetet kring skolans demokratiska fostran är bristfällig. Enligt resultaten är det regler som rör moraliska värderingar viktigast i skolan. Undersökningen visar även på att de demokratiska mål som presenteras i den undersökta skolans arbetsplan samt skolplan stämmer väl överens med de mål som finns i Lpf 94 samt skollagen. Generellt kan man säga att eleverna uppfattar skolans demokratiska fostrande roll positivt. Den undersökta skolan lyckas med att förmedla de demokratiska idéerna till eleverna men inte ge dem de rätta verktygen för att uppnå målen.

Distriktssköterskans roll är av stor betydelse vid införandet av ett empowerment baserat förhållningssätt gentemot den äldre individen med diabetes typ 2. Empowerment är ett begrepp som uppkommit i samband den humanistiska människosynen och används i syfte att öka patienternas egenvårdsförmåga och självstyre i skötseln av sin diabetes. Livskvalitén ökar av individens delaktighet och självbestämmande, att själv kunna ansvara för sin sjukdom med stöd av distriktssköterskan. Empowerment baserad utbildning i grupp vid återkommande träffar för att få riklig kunskap om diabetes typ 2, med möjlighet till individuella träffar där individerna skapar sina egna mål är av största vikt för att bedriva egenvård. Lagar och författningar som styr distriktssköterskans arbete genomsyras av humanism. Distriktssköterskan behöver få utbildning i att använda sig av ett empowerment baserat arbetssätt och de behöver arbetsledningens stöd då det krävs ökade resurser vid införandet av ett nytt arbetssätt. Empowerment baserad grupputbildning ger en ökad förbättring av den glykemiska kontrollen för äldre individer. Diabetes typ 2 är en sjukdom som ökar i takt med att befolkningen blir äldre. Studien har genomförts som systematisk litteraturstudie.

Introduktion: De hjärtpatienter som lever hemma själva har en sämre livskvalitet både fysiskt och psykiskt oavsett ålder och kön. Att ha en anhörig eller nära vän som hjälp ökar livskvalitet och kortar återhämtningsperioden. Syfte: Syftet är att se hur män och kvinnor upplever livet efter hjärtinfarkt, samt hur sjuksköterskans roll upplevs i kontakten med dessa patienter? Metod: Systematisk litteraturstudie utifrån vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultat: Resultatet diskuteras utifrån fem huvudkategorier samt ur manligt och kvinnligt perspektiv. Dessa huvudrubriker är ”Hälsoproblem”, ”Livsstilsförändringar”, ”Emotionella reaktioner”, ”Arbets och socialt nätverk” och ”Hur upplevs sjuksköterskans roll i omvårdnaden”. Under dessa huvudrubriker har uppsatsförfattarna beskrivit vilket resultat vi funnit i artiklarna om patienters olika upplevelser av vardagslivet efter hjärtinfarkt. Diskussion: Resultatet liknar det som redan finns beskrivet i läroböckerna att män och kvinnor reagerar och upplever smärta på olika sätt. Vilket leder till att upplevelserna i vardagen också kommer att skilja sig åt mellan män och kvinnor. Att båda könen upplever smärta och obehag på olika sätt kan ha att göra med ideal, normer, livsvillkor och förväntningar på vad som är manligt och kvinnligt i samhället. Slutsats: Individen bakom sjukdomen får aldrig förbises vilket skulle kunna ge negativa konsekvenser i omvårdnaden. Det föreligger dessutom en informationsbrist. Denna bör utredas för att höja kvalitén rörande patientinformationen. Anhöriga bör dessutom involveras i vården mer.
