A Pedagogical approach of schistosomiasis an experience in health education in Minas Gerais, Brazil

The experience described here is part of an extensive program that aims to stimulate schools to develop health integrated projects from theme generators, i.e., themes that have a meaning for the community. It was developed in Jaboticatubas, a town in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and the focus was schistosomiasis. The selection was based on the expressive and historical prevalence of this disease in the county, which has been known as the "capital of schistosomiasis", in a national press release since the 1960's. Schistosomiasis is also a theme pointed out by teachers as requiring more information and methodologies to work with their students, most of them living in areas of high risk of transmission. In addition, during the last years, this disease has been transmitted silently through an increasing rural tourism in that region, requiring integrated and effective control actions. The developed strategy included four schools, whose teachers, students, and families took part in the process. It emphasizes in a critical pedagogy approach, which focuses on health issues as themes that may mobilize the school community and awake the population to a work which integrates environment, health, and citizenship. The results demonstrate that teachers and students not only acquired new knowledge and methodological skills, but also gained confidence in their ability to improve their health conditions. Thus, the project promotes a critical education that can result a more permanent effect on the control of schistosomiasis as well as other benefits for the schools and for the population.

Healthy Eating Education Programme

This Programme provides healthy nutritious food for residents and ex-residents of the East Belfast Missions homeless shelter. It also provides health and diet sessions and cookery demonstrations on how to plan and prepare healthy food on a low budget. Information and advice sessions will also be provided for local residents, senior citizens and users of their family and community programmes giving advice and support on how to prepare and cook healthy meals on a low income. Aquest treball de final de carrera té com a objectiu fer el disseny i la implementació d'un sistema de control de projectes per a una organització, de manera que la seva estructura interna i funcionament segueixin els paràmetres especificats a l'enunciat proporcionat per la consultora de l'assignatura. El sistema ha de recollir informació sobre quan de temps i en què treballa cada treballador, i quines han estat les despeses mentre ha estat assignat a cada projecte o tasca. D'aquesta manera, a més de tenir un control horari del treballador, l'organització sabrà perfectament si la realització d'un projecte ha estat rendible i disposarà, durant el desenvolupament, de dades sobre l'evolució de costos i hores per a executar les actuacions correctives pertinents.

Food Garden Project

The Food Garden Project is unique in bringing these two community groups together to work towards enhancing the participants' understanding of nutrition, healthy eating and self-sufficiency through growing fruit and vegetables and developing cookery skills. The Food Garden Projectâ?Ts aim is to support participants to grow, prepare and cook a range of fruit and vegetables throughout the year. There is also an emphasis on transferring these skills to their home life. The aim of the Food Garden Project is to support very marginalised and vulnerable individuals to grow, prepare and cook a range of healthy organic fruit and vegetables throughout the year. Dunmanway Grow it Cook it Eat it - Growing Together

Growing Together will develop a community garden on unused land to help local families and groups to grow, cook and eat fruit and vegetables. En aquest projecte, amb la finalitat d'analitzar per mitjà d'un exemple (la base de dades d'una botiga que opera en línia) algunes de les possibilitats que dóna XML, s'ha construït un sistema que permet generar bases de dades relacionals (amb SQL) a partir de diagrames de classes definits en XML. D?aquesta manera es mostra la flexibilitat que aporta XML a la definició, el processament i la transformació dels documents.

Diseño de un sistema de control de proyectos

El projecte es basa en la gestió de dades d'una empresa dedicada a la creació de programari per al sector immobiliari. Aquesta empresa té seu a diverses ciutats o centres, dividits en departaments, els quals inclouen els seus respectius treballadors. Els clients sol·liciten projectes a aquests centres i els assignen els corresponents caps de projecte i treballadors juntament amb les despeses que el projecte comporta. Totes aquestes dades seran emmagatzemades i gestionades per la base de dades.

L'àmbit d'aquest treball de final de carrera és el camp del disseny de les bases de dades relacionals, per la qual cosa aquest treball s'ha enfocat des de diversos punts de vista: a) Acadèmic. Es descriurà la teoria del disseny de bases de dades relacionals. b) Pràctic. Es posarà en pràctica tot el model teòric desenvolupant un cas concret (producte) que s'anirà intercalant amb el desenvolupament teòric del punt anterior. c) Tecnològic. El desplegament del producte es farà a l'SGBD Oracle 9i (s'hi porta a terme una introducció), on s'implementarà tota la interfície a la BD amb la tecnologia PL/SQL d'Oracle.
