One leaf containing a description by Croswell of nearly being run over by a carriage. The document is undated, but the date can be inferred from other diary entries in the collection.

[Letter from William Emerson to John Sale], 1819 December 3

Letter signed by William Emerson requesting John Sale pay the scholarship funds. The author of the letter is likely the son of the Reverend William Emerson, who died in 1811. William Emerson (1801-1868) received an AB from Harvard in 1818; his brother Ralph Waldo Emerson (Harvard AB 1821) received the Penn Scholarship from 1817 to 1820.

Bond for David Cowing. 1785 November 16

Printed bond of James Cowing, Shoemaker and Timothy Doty, yeoman of Ballstown, New York to the President and Fellows of Harvard College for 200 ounces of silver on behalf of student David Cowing. The bond was witnessed by Samuel Randall and Lettes Jenne.

Letter to the Selectmen of Charlestown, 1785 January 13

Three-and-a-half-page handwritten letter from "FM Dana by order &c," to the Selectmen of Charlestown. Dana is presumably speaking on behalf of the Selectmen of Cambridge and provides an extensive response to the Charlestown Selectmen about increased ferry fares that is critical of the demands of the Harvard Corporation.
