Microwave dielectric ceramics based on GdTiNb,-,.Ta,O6 and Sml _.,Y,TiTa06 have been prepared by conventional solid state method . The GdTiTaO6 and SmTiTaO6 have aeschenite structure with positive rr and GdTiNbO6 and YTiTaO6 have euxenite structure with negative rr. The rr of the ceramics has been tuned by preparing solid solution phases between the aeschynites and euxenites for a possible zero rr material . It is observed that GdTiNbt_YTa.,O6 undergoes a phase transition from aeschynite to euxenite when x=0.75 and in Sml-,YxTiTa06 for x= 0.73. The microwave dielectric properties change abruptly near the transition region . The rr value approaches zero near the phase transition region while the samples have poor sinterability and poor quality factor . The unloaded quality factor, dielectric constant and the sign of rr of the solid solution phases are found to depend on the average ionic radius of the rare earth ion in RE ,-5RE',TiTaO6. The boundary of the euxenite-aeschynite phase transition occurs at an average ( RE) ionic radius of 0.915 A in Sm,_, Y,.TiTaO6 solid solution phases

microwave dielectric properties of ceramics based on Ba(Mgv3Ta(2-2x)t3W,t3Tixt3)O3 is investigated as a function of x. The 15 densification as well as dielectric properties deteriorate with increase in the substitution levels of (Ti 1,3W113)333 + at (Ta213)3.33+ site 16 in Ba(Mg113Ta213)03. The rt is approaching zero between x = 0.1 and 0.15 in Ba(Mg it3Ta(2-2,,.)t3W,it3Ti,Tt3)O3 where quality factor is 17 reasonably good (Qu x f = 80,000-90,000 GHz). The Ba(Mg1,3Ta(2_,013W,13Ti,,13)03 with x = 1.0 has e, = 15.4, rf= -25.1 ppm/ 18 "C, Q„ x f = 35,400 GHz

The effect of dopants with different valencies and ionic radii on the densification, structural ordering, and microwave dielectric properties of Ba(Mg1t3Tazt3)O3 (BMT) is investigated. It is found that dopants such as Sb,05, MnO, ZrO,, WO1, and ZnO improve the microwave dielectric properties of BMT. Addition of trivalent dopants is detrimental to the cation ordering and dielectric properties of BMT. A correlation between the microwave dielectric properties of BMT and ionic radii of the dopant has been established. The variation of the dielectric properties of pure and doped BMT at cryogenic temperatures is also discussed

The BaO-2CeO2-nTiO2 ceramics with n = 3, 4 and 5 have been prepared with CeO2 as starting material . The ceramics have been characterized using scanning electron microscopy , X-ray diffraction , Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. The microwave dielectric properties have been measured using standard dielectric resonator techniques . BaO-2CeO2-3TiO2 (123), BaO-2CeO2-4TiO2 ( 124) and BaO-2CeO2-5TiO2 ( 125) ceramics showed dielectric constants of 38, 27 and 32, respectively . All the ceramics showed fairly good unloaded Q - factors . 124 and 125 compounds exhibited low tf values, while 123 showed a high rf value

In this paper, we report the measurements of thermal diffusivity of nano Ag metal dispersed ceramic alumina matrix sintered at different temperatures using laser induced non-destructive photoacoustic technique. Measurements of thermal diffusivity also have been carried out on specimens with various concentration of nano metal. Analysis of the data is done on the basis of one-dimensional model of Rosencwaig and Gersho. The present measurements on the thermal diffusivity of nano metal dispersed ceramic alumina shows that porosity has a great influence on the heat transport and the thermal diffusivity value. The present analysis also shows that the inclusion of nano metal into ceramic matrix increases its interconnectivity and hence the thermal diffusivity value. The present study on the samples sintered at different temperature shows that the porosity of the ceramics varies considerably with the change in sintering temperature. The results are interpreted in terms of phonon assisted heat transfer mechanism and the exclusion of pores with the increase in sintering temperature.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites filled with Sr2Ce2Ti5O16 ceramic were prepared by a powder processing technique. The structures and microstructures of the composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the ceramic filler had no effect on the melting point of the PTFE. The effect of the Sr2Ce2Ti5O16 ceramic content [0–0.6 volume fraction (vf)] on the thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), specific heat capacity, and thermal diffusivity were investigated. As the vf of the Sr2Ce2Ti5O16 ceramic increased, the thermal conductivity of the specimen increased, and the CTE decreased. The thermal conductivity and thermal expansion of the PTFE/Sr2Ce2Ti5O16 composites were improved to 1.7 W m21 8C21 and 34 ppm/8C, respectively for 0.6 vf of the ceramics. The experimental thermal conductivity and CTE were compared with different theoretical models.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) bioceramic and chitosan (poly [( -1-4) D-glucosamine]) biopolymer show good biocompatibility in vivo. They have biological origin and show excellent interactions with microwave. Microwave study of HAp made using different drying techniques and their composites with chitosan in the ISM band is presented. Pastes are made using HAp and chitosan with different ratios of mixing. The dielectric properties of this composites match with that of human fat, collagen tissues. Some of the compositions exhibit dielectric property close to that of natural bone. This makes them more biocompatible and better substitutes for natural bone. Thus composite bioceramics can be considered as phantom model constituents for imaging purposes. Their dielectric properties prove that they are biocompatible.

This article reports a new method of analyzing pericardial fluid based on the measurement of the dielectric properties at microwave frequencies. The microwave measurements were performed by rectangular cavity perturbation method in the S-band of microwave frequency with the pericardial fluid from healthy persons as well as from patients suffering from pericardial effusion. It is observed that a remarkable change in the dielectric properties of patient samples with the normal healthy samples and these measurements were in good agreement with clinical analysis. This measurement technique and the method of extraction of pericardial fluid are simple. These results give light to an alternative in-vitro method of diagnosing onset pericardial effusion abnormalities using microwaves without surgical procedure.
