[Excerto] As crianças e os jovens vivem hoje de forma cada vez mais mediatizada. Os seus quotidianos são habitados por vários meios de comunicação, desde os chamados novos meios aos mais tradicionais, exercendo impacto no modo como percecionam, conhecem e representam o mundo, na forma como se relacionam com os outros, com constroem a sua identidade, coma estudam e se divertem e organizam a sua vida quotidiana. O ecossistema mediático, nomeadamente os ambientes digitais, abre-lhes hoje variadas oportunidades para comunicar, participar, criar e produzir informação. Aparentemente, as crianças e os jovens dispõem hoje de mais meios e de mais possibilidades para expressar e partilhar as suas ideias, interesses e opiniões, mas estarão eles a tirar realmente partido destas potencialidades? Que usos fazem destes meios?

Current data mining engines are difficult to use, requiring optimizations by data mining experts in order to provide optimal results. To solve this problem a new concept was devised, by maintaining the functionality of current data mining tools and adding pervasive characteristics such as invisibility and ubiquity which focus on their users, providing better ease of use and usefulness, by providing autonomous and intelligent data mining processes. This article introduces an architecture to implement a data mining engine, composed by four major components: database; Middleware (control); Middleware (processing); and interface. These components are interlinked but provide independent scaling, allowing for a system that adapts to the user’s needs. A prototype has been developed in order to test the architecture. The results are very promising and showed their functionality and the need for further improvements.

OBJETIVO: Verificar os efeitos de um programa de condicionamento físico não-supervisionado e acompanhado via internet, por um período de seis meses, na pressão arterial e composição corporal em indivíduos normotensos e pré-hipertensos. MÉTODOS: Participaram 135 indivíduos divididos em dois grupos: 1) normotenso (n = 57), 43 ± 1 anos, pressão arterial sistólica (PAS) < 120 e diastólica (PAD) < 80 mmHg (GI); e 2) pré-hipertenso (n = 78), 46 ± 1 anos, PAS de 120 a 139 e PAD de 80 a 89 mmHg (GII). RESULTADOS: Após três e seis meses de condicionamento físico, os indivíduos GII apresentaram redução significativa na PAS (-3,6 ± 0,94 e -10 ± 0,94 mmHg, p < 0,05, respectivamente) e PAD (-6,5 ± 1 e -7,1 ± 0,9 mmHg, p < 0,05, respectivamente), peso corporal (-1,12 ± 0,26 e -1,25 ± 0,31 kg, p < 0,05, respectivamente), IMC (-0,79 ± 0,4 e -0,84 ± 0,41 kg/m2, p < 0,05, respectivamente) e circunferência da cintura (-1,12 ± 0,53 e -1,84 ± 0,56 cm, p < 0,05, respectivamente). No GI, o condicionamento físico diminuiu a circunferência da cintura no sexto mês (-1,6 ± 0,63 cm, p < 0,05). CONCLUSÃO: Este programa diminui a pressão arterial, peso corporal, IMC e circunferência da cintura em indivíduos pré-hipertensos, constituindo-se, portanto, numa estratégia segura e de baixo custo na prevenção de doenças cardiovasculares e melhoria da condição de saúde da população.

Nowadays a huge attention of the academia and research teams is attracted to the potential of the usage of the 60 GHz frequency band in the wireless communications. The use of the 60GHz frequency band offers great possibilities for wide variety of applications that are yet to be implemented. These applications also imply huge implementation challenges. Such example is building a high data rate transceiver which at the same time would have very low power consumption. In this paper we present a prototype of Single Carrier -SC transceiver system, illustrating a brief overview of the baseband design, emphasizing the most important decisions that need to be done. A brief overview of the possible approaches when implementing the equalizer, as the most complex module in the SC transceiver, is also presented. The main focus of this paper is to suggest a parallel architecture for the receiver in a Single Carrier communication system. This would provide higher data rates that the communication system canachieve, for a price of higher power consumption. The suggested architecture of such receiver is illustrated in this paper,giving the results of its implementation in comparison with its corresponding serial implementation.

Das Thema Nachhaltigkeit ist schon seit geraumer Zeit in den gesellschaftlichen Fokus gerückt. Große Unternehmen sehen sich zunehmend dem Druck einer kritischen Öffentlichkeit ausgesetzt. Das betrifft besonders Unternehmen, die im ernährungswirtschaftlichen Bereich tätig sind. Fast Food gilt für viele als Inbegriff schlechter Ernährung und unethischer Verhaltensweisen. Vor diesem Hintergrund versuchen immer mehr Unternehmen, ihre Produkte und Produktionsprozesse sowie die Unternehmensführung selbst nachhaltig zu gestalten. Mit dem Instrument der Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation existiert ein Ansatz, diese Entwicklung transparent zu kommunizieren. Dabei nutzen immer mehr Firmen das Internet als Kommunikationskanal. Da die Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation allerdings ein noch recht junges Feld der Unternehmenskommunikation darstellt, gibt es quantitativ wie qualitativ große Unterschiede. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht diese Arbeit die Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation des führenden Fast-Food-Konzerns McDonald’s im Internet. Es wird sich zeigen, dass sich die Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation in die Bereiche Produktverantwortung und Unternehmensverantwortung aufteilt. Beide Bereiche orientieren sich mit ihren Inhalten an gesellschaftlichen Ansprüchen. Die Produktverantwortung von McDonald‘s umfasst dabei sowohl persönliche als auch externe Effekte der Lebensmittelproduktion. Die Unternehmensverantwortung schließt die Verantwortung als Arbeitgeber, gesellschaftliches Engagement und Umweltschutz ein. Durch einen Vergleich mit einer Verbraucherstudie, die irreführende Kommunikationsstrategien der Lebensmittelindustrie aufzeigt, wird sich zeigen, dass die Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation auf Produktebene Täuschungspotenziale aufweist. Zudem zeigt sich, dass die drei Nachhaltigkeitsdimensionen nicht integriert dargestellt werden.

Die Untersuchung der beiden Webseiten verfolgte das Ziel, festzustellen, ob und inwieweit die beiden Hersteller GlaxoSmithKline und Sanofi Pasteur MSD Marketingstrategien auf ihren Informationsseiten anwenden. Es zeigte sich in beiden Fällen, dass dies in großem Maße stattfindet. Durch Gestaltung und Inhalt sind Rückschlüsse auf den jeweiligen Impfstoff möglich. Dadurch wird deutlich, dass die Seiten keine reine Informationsabsicht verfolgen. Zusammenfassend bleibt festzustellen,dass die Hersteller die ihnen eingeräumten Freiheiten zur Information auch zu Marketingzwecken missbrauchen.Der zugrundeliegende Schutzzweck des Heilmittelwerbegesetzes (HWG) wird hiermit konterkariert.

The modern computer systems that are in use nowadays are mostly processor-dominant, which means that their memory is treated as a slave element that has one major task – to serve execution units data requirements. This organization is based on the classical Von Neumann's computer model, proposed seven decades ago in the 1950ties. This model suffers from a substantial processor-memory bottleneck, because of the huge disparity between the processor and memory working speeds. In order to solve this problem, in this paper we propose a novel architecture and organization of processors and computers that attempts to provide stronger match between the processing and memory elements in the system. The proposed model utilizes a memory-centric architecture, wherein the execution hardware is added to the memory code blocks, allowing them to perform instructions scheduling and execution, management of data requests and responses, and direct communication with the data memory blocks without using registers. This organization allows concurrent execution of all threads, processes or program segments that fit in the memory at a given time. Therefore, in this paper we describe several possibilities for organizing the proposed memory-centric system with multiple data and logicmemory merged blocks, by utilizing a high-speed interconnection switching network.

Advances in computer memory technology justify research towards new and different views on computer organization. This paper proposes a novel memory-centric computing architecture with the goal to merge memory and processing elements in order to provide better conditions for parallelization and performance. The paper introduces the architectural concepts and afterwards shows the design and implementation of a corresponding assembler and simulator.
