From a brief description of four different epistemological perspectives on human rights this article seeks to highlight the importance of critically discuss the history and the contradictions between these perspectives and the field of psychology both as science and professional practice. It is noteworthy that an ethical psychologist’s practice depends on a critical attitude towards science and human rights in its various interfaces.

Extensão universitária e trabalho voluntário na formação do acadêmico em odontologia

The aim of the present study was to point out the importance of the experience of undergraduate dental students in extra-curricular activities and volunteer work, as a means through which to gain essential knowledge and abilities for their professional lives. A literature review of the Medline, Scielo, and Lilacs databases was carried out in an attempt to select articles related to the university extension and volunteer work of undergraduate dental students. It is still extremely difficult to include university extension and volunteer work as an important activity in Dentistry courses. However, the presentday work market demands professionals who have expertise not only in dental techniques, but also in the socio-cultural characteristics of communities, considering that people need to be comprehensive in their psychosocial aspects in order to be treated as a complete professional. Therefore, university dentistry courses should give equal consideration to both oral rehabilitation skills and the promotion of general healthcare, acquired mainly through extracurricular activities, in an attempt to redeem the integral education of the healthcare professional. Moreover, students should pay closer attention to the opportunities offered during their undergraduate courses, as the work market for dentists is becoming more and more competitive. Moreover, the dentist whose professional life is limited to the dental office will most certainly forgo the opportunity to act in other social areas as well as the recognition that comes with such acts.

Knowledge of professionals from public service on oral health promotion for babies

Health promotion seeks to integrate oral health practices to other public health, by building healthy public policy and the development of strategies directed to all people in the community. This study aimed to analyze the knowledge and actions on the infants’ oral health promotion by dentists, pediatricians and nurses. Were interviewed dentists (n=34), pediatricians (n=31) and nurses (n=26) from Basic Health Units, Family Health Units and Centers for Education and Recreation in Araraquara - SP about knowledge and actions on oral health promotion for infants, by filling out a pre-tested questionnaire. Data were analyzed by association tests. Generally, the professionals are aware of and perform actions on oral health promotion for infants. Most participants were female; mean age of 39.9 years, worked in Basic Health Units, had over 10 years of graduation, demonstrated knowledge on and considered oral health promotion in infants very important. The time since graduation and actions on oral health promotion for infants were associated (p<0.05) with issues concerning the use of dental floss. That most of the professionals who participated in this study know about, take actions on oral health promotion for infants and consider them crucial.

Meaning of aromatherapy massage in mental health

Objective: To understand the meaning of the aromatherapy massage intervention in mental health for the patient during psychiatric hospitalization.Methods: A qualitative study including 22 participants with a diagnosis of personality disorder hospitalized in a psychiatric unit of a general hospital. We used semi-structured interviews with a guiding question for participants, for whom the aromatherapy massage intervention was performed. The content of the interviews was assessed according to content analysis.Results: Among the study subjects, there was a predominance of females and the majority presented a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. Two categories that emerged were identified from qualitative data: "Identifying the benefits of aromatherapy" and "Enabling self-knowledge."Conclusion: The meaning of the aromatherapy massage intervention was represented by improvements in nursing care and treatment during psychiatric hospitalization, while assisting in the reduction of anxiety symptoms and coping with mental illness.

A formação do professor-pesquisador no curso de licenciatura em educação física

A formação inicial do professor-pesquisador tem como pressuposto formar um docente mais autônomo e observador de sua prática pedagógica, relacionando ensino com investigação. A formação de um novo professor requer sua iniciação em valores, representações, saberes e fazeres (SARTI, 2009) e o professor-pesquisador busca investigar sua prática e resolver seus desafios, sem distanciar-se da teoria. Para abranger esta formação, o presente estudo propõe como objetivo geral compreender como os estudantes do curso de licenciatura em Educação Física da UNESP de Rio Claro interpretam a sua prática profissional em situação de estágio supervisionado na perspectiva do professor-pesquisador. Como objetivos específicos buscou-se: (1)Observar se os estagiários são estimulados a refletir sobre sua ação pedagógica; (2)Verificar se a disciplina de Prática de Ensino se aproxima de uma proposta de formação do professor que investiga a sua prática; (3)Identificar os elementos constitutivos de uma ação reflexiva e; (4)Averiguar se os estudantes de educação física se reconhecem como professores que investigam a sua prática. Optou-se pela pesquisa qualitativa, tendo como técnicas a entrevista semiestruturada com os licenciandos, a fonte documental, a observação das aulas da disciplina de estágio na universidade e a análise de conteúdo. Na busca desses dados o trabalho de campo relacionado à observação foi realizado com 15 estudantes de Licenciatura em educação física do quarto ano - turma 1 da disciplina de Estágio Curricular Supervisionado . Para a entrevista foram selecionados 6 estudantes deste grupo. Graphic Design is a profession established with advent artistic vanguards of the twentieth century. As professional activity, it works with planning and projects which involve the visual solution of communication and information problems. Then, The Surface Design is the professional practice pledged with the elaboration of projects for coatings and application in products, giving attention to the production and materials in the processes. The relation between both Design areas is connected, at first, by the two-dimensional characteristic. In Brazil, academic study about Surface Design is in evolution and some universities works with this subject. Analyzing the concepts and characteristics concerning methodologies that comprehend both Graphic Design and Surface Design becomes a current and including subject. Therefore, it is necessary the conceptual unfolding and methodological in order to establish relations and contributions involved in the field of Graphic Design and apply them in Surface Design. Thus, the present study aimed to check concepts and particular functions of Graphic Design and to establish its relations and contributions for Surface Design. The results of this study can be used as teaching support and professional practice.
