The American Sunday School Magazine was devoted mainly to promoting the Sunday school movement and to keeping the reader up to date concerning the activities of Sunday school unions and societies in various states. It also included much Sunday school-related news, lessons for Sunday school teachers, and articles on religious instruction for children, as well as some book reviews and occasional poetry and anecdotes.

The Balanced Growth Cabinet was extablished to investigate new solutions to problems facing Illinois communities and to ensure that existing programs that effect growth are implemented effectively. One of the purposes of the Cabinet is to promote the "Illinois Tomorrow" initiative which pulls together a variety of state programs under a common focus: to encourage the creation, expansion, and restoration of livable communities in Illinois. It also promotes voluntary state/local partnerships and focuses on state programs that invest in existing communities. The Cabinate is charged with evaluating these programs to ensure that they are being used effectively. In addition, the Cabinet makes recommendations to the Governor for additional programs and policies that will promote balanced growth and effective planning strategies in Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has initiated the Illinois Route 2 Phase I Study. The study will examine the transportation needs of and solutions for the corridor through an extensive public involvement process. The study area is located in Winnebago County, extending approximately 2.0 miles from north of Auburn Street on the south to north of Riverside Blvd. on the north, all within the City of Rockford, Illinois.
