Die dritte, erweiterte Auflage des Lehrbuches «Arbeitsrecht in der Schweiz» wurde mit der neuesten Lehre und Rechtsprechung im Arbeitsrecht ergänzt und integriert die gesetzlichen Neuerungen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt wie schon bei der Vorauflage bei den Ausführungen zum Einzelarbeitsvertrag des Obligationenrechts. Das kollektive Arbeitsrecht und der öffentlich-rechtliche Arbeitnehmerschutz werden summarisch dargestellt. Zum Sozialversicherungsrecht findet sich ein Überblick. Auf das öffentlich-rechtliche Anstellungsverhältnis wird am Rande eingegangen. Im Sinne einer Ergänzung enthält das Buch eine Fragensammlung, die häufig auftauchende arbeitsrechtliche Probleme thematisiert und entsprechende Lösungen aufzeigt. Damit eignet sich das Werk einerseits als Grundlage für das Selbststudium und stellt andererseits eine wertvolle Hilfe zur Lösung arbeitsrechtlicher Problemstellungen dar. Zur Lernunterstützung werden im hinteren Teil des Buches insbesondere für Studierende sowie Anwaltskandidaten/innen Musterprüfungen zur Verfügung gestellt. Das vorliegende Werk soll zum einen Studierende an Universitäten und Fachhochschulen ansprechen, zum anderen aber auch Personalverantwortlichen in Unternehmen als Orientierung im Arbeitsrecht dienen. Das Buch ermöglicht es dem Leser nicht nur, sich fundierte Kenntnisse des schweizerischen Arbeitsrechts zu verschaffen, sondern auch innert kurzer Zeit das massgebende Wissen zur Beantwortung arbeitsrechtlicher Fragen aufzufinden.

Die Betriebsanleitung zum Allgemeinen Teil I des Strafgesetzbuches versteht sich als neue Form von Lehrmittel. Sie will Studierende zur Arbeit mit dem Gesetzestext anleiten, den sie ob all der Grundlagenprobleme gerade zu Beginn ihres Studiums im Strafrecht vielfach vernachlässigen. Das StGB ist jedoch Grundlage und Ausgangspunkt jeden Nachdenkens über das geltende Recht. Seine Vorschriften enthalten, so knapp sie mitunter auch sein mögen, wichtige Informationen, mit deren Aneignung sich der ebenso abstrakte wie differenzierte Stoff der Straftatkonzeption besser meistern lässt. Das Kurzlehrbuch behandelt die wichtigsten theoretischen Lehren des Aufbaus der allgemeinen Verbrechenslehre, veranschaulicht sie mit Gesetzesauszügen und demonstriert die Gesetzesanwendung anhand zahlreicher Praxisbeispiele. Ein Glossar am Ende rundet das Lehrmittel ab.

Nachhaltige Entwicklung in die Hochschullehre integrieren ist ein Leitfaden, der sich besonders, aber nicht ausschliesslich, an Dozierende aus allen Disziplinen der Universität Bern richtet, die das Querschnittsthema „Nachhaltige Entwicklung“ in universitäre Veranstaltungen aufnehmen und integrieren möchten. Er enthält kurze, grundlegende Informationen zu den Themen Nachhaltige Entwicklung (NE) und Bildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) (Grundlagen), sowie praktische Konzepte, Instrumente, Anleitungen, Hinweise, Beispiele, Links und Folien zur Integration dieser Themen in die Lehre (Vertiefungen 1-4). Beim vorliegenden Dokument handelt es sich um die Grundlagen.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a selection of children's historical nonfiction literature for evidence of coherence. Although research has been conducted on coherence of textbook material and its influences on comprehension there has been limited study on coherence in children's nonfiction literature. Generally, textual coherence has been seen as critical in the comprehensibility of content area textbooks because it concerns the unity of connections among ideas and information. Disciplinary coherence concerns the extent to which authors of historical text show readers how historians think and write. Since young readers are apprentices in learning historical content and conventions of historical thinking, evidence of disciplinary coherence is significant in nonfiction literature for young readers. The sample of the study contained 32 books published between 1989 and 2000 ranging in length from less than 90 pages to more than 150 pages. Content analysis was the quantitative research technique used to measure 84 variables of textual and disciplinary coherence in three passages of each book, as proportions of the total number of words for each book. Reliability analyses and an examination of 750 correlations showed the extent to which variables were related in the books. Three important findings emerged from the study that should be considered in the selection and use of children's historical nonfiction literature in classrooms. First, characteristics of coherence are significantly related together in high quality nonfiction literature. Second, shorter books have a higher proportion of textual coherence than longer books as measured in three passages. Third, presence of the author is related to characteristics of coherence throughout the books. The findings show that nonfiction literature offers students content that researchers have found textbooks lack. Both younger and older students have the opportunity to learn the conventions of historical thinking as they learn content through nonfiction literature. Further, the children's literature, represented in the Orbis Pictus list, shows students that authors select, interpret, and question information, and give other interpretations. The implications of the study for teaching history, teacher preparation in content and literacy, school practices, children's librarians, and publishers of children's nonfiction are discussed.

Kenya has experienced a rapid expansion of the education system partly due to high government expenditure on education. Despite the high level of expenditure on education, primary school enrolment has been declining since early 1990s and until 2003 when gross primary school enrolment increased to 104 percent after the introduction of free primary education. However, with an estimated net primary school enrolment rate of 77 percent, the country is far from achieving universal primary education. The worrying scenario is that the allocations of resources within the education sector seems to be ineffective as the increasing expenditure on education goes to recurrent expenditure (to pay teachers salaries). Kenya's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) and the Economic Recovery Strategy for wealth and Employment Creation (ERS) outlines education targets of reaching universal primary education by 2015. The Government is faced with budget constrains and therefore the available resources need to be allocated efficiently in order to realize the education targets. The paper uses Budget Negotiation Framework (BNF) to analyze the cost effective ways of resource allocation in the primary education sector to achieve universal primary education and other education targets. Budget Negotiation Framework is a tool that aims at achieving equity and efficiency in resource allocation. Results from the analysis shows that universal primary education by the year 2015 is a feasible target for Kenya. The results also show that with a more cost- effective spending of education resources - increased trained teachers, enhanced textbook supplies and subsidies targeting the poor - the country could realize higher enrolment rates than what has been achieved with free primary education.
