Este trabalho apresenta as especies de Tetranychidae (18 especies), Tenuipalpidae (2 especies), Eriophyidae (3 especies)(, Rhyncaphytoptidae (1 especie) e Tarsonemidae (1 especie) coletadas no Nordeste. Apresenta tambem chaves para a separacao dos generos de Tetranychidae, Tenuipappidae e Eriphyidae encontrados, e dados sobre distribuicao e hospedeiros.

Alguns aspectos biologicos de Tetranychus evansi Baker & Pritchard foram estudados em laboratorio, incluindo a duracao das formas jovens e a capacidade reprodutiva, em plantas de tomate var. Rossol. As duracoes dos estagios do ovo, larva, protoninfa e deutoninfa foram de 4,8; 2,6, 2,4 e 3,2 dias, respectivamente, correspondendo a uma duracao total de, aproximadamente treze dias de ovo a adulto, para ambos os secos. Os niveis mais altos de oviposicao foram obtidos do quarto ao decimo ia, aproximadamente. Uma media de 105,7 ovos foram postos durante todo o periodo de oviposicao. Provavelmente, a utilizacao de folhas medianas ou basais, ao inves de apicais, como substrato teria resultado em um ciclo biologico mais curto e em uma oviposicao total maior do que os obtidos neste estudo.

Impulse control disorders (ICD) is a common side effect of the dopaminergic treatment in patients with Parkinson's disease, which is more associated with dopamine agonists than with levodopa. To understand its pathophysiology, reliable animal models are essential. Using the variable delay-to-signal (VDS) paradigm, impulsivity was evaluated in bilateral parkinsonian rats treated with pramipexole (PPX). In this test, rats have to introduce the snout into a nose poke that is signaled by a light (presented at variable delays) triggering the delivery of a food reward after a correct response. Reaching a stable baseline performance, a partial bilateral dopaminergic lesion with 6-OHDA was induced in the dorsolateral striatum (AP: +1mm, L: ±3.4mm, V:-4.7 mm, Bregma). Rats undertook the VDS test under 5 conditions: basal state, 6-OHDA-induced lesion, the effect of two doses of PPX (0,25mg/kg and 3mg/kg; Latin-square design), and the day after the last dose of PPX. Only the acute administration of 3 mg/kg of PPX significantly rised the number of premature responses, indicating an increase of impulsive behavior, in parkinsonian but not in sham rats. Both doses of PPX significantly decreased the accuracy of responding (correct/total number of responses) and increased the incorrect and perseverative (compulsive behavior) responses in both parkinsonian and sham treated groups when compared with saline-treated groups. In conclusion, PPX induced attention deficit (lack of accuracy) as well as compulsive behavior in control and parkinsonian rats, but increased impulsivity only in the parkinsonian animals. This model could constitute a valid tool to investigate the pathophysiology of ICD.

Background: Indoor aeroallergens are the main cause of sensitization in children and represent a risk factor for the development of allergic diseases. Objective: Identify the major indoor aeroallergens most often sensitized to pediatric patients treated at the Allergy Service at the “Dr. José Eleuterio González” University Hospital of Monterrey Methods: We performed an observational and descriptive study where we reviewed reports of positive skin tests to the following common indoor aeroallergens: Dermatophagoides farinae (D. farinae), Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (D. pteronyssinus), Canis familiaris (C. familiaris), Felis domesticus (F. domesticus), Blattella germanica (B. germanica) and Periplaneta americana (P. americana), found in patients under 16 years with symptoms of allergy, during the period of 2011-2012. Results: We performed 439 skin tests to aeroallergens in pediatric patients. Of these, 57.6% were male and 42.4% were female. Mean age was 6.3 years. The age groups were under 3 years: 17.8%, 3-5 years: 35%, 6-12 years: 36%, and 13-16 years: 11.2%. The main diagnoses were: allergic rhinitis (71.8%), asthma (16.6%), and atopic dermatitis (4.3%). In 57.9% of the cases, they had at least one positive skin test to any aeroallergen. The rate of sensitization to speciic aeroallergens was: D. Pteronyssinus 49.0%, D. farinae 44.6%, B. germanica 13.9%, P. Americana 10.9%, F. domesticus 10.7%, and C. familiaris 5.9%. Conclusion: Indoor aeroallergen sensitization can occur early in life, although it was more frequent in the preschooler and elementary school group. Dust house mites were the most commom cause of allergic sensitization.

Feeding habits of Syngnathus typhle were determined based on monthly sampling during experimental fishing in a coastal lagoon (Ria Formosa, South Portugal) from April 2004 to May 2002. The gut contents of 856 individuals were analysed and quantified with numerical and gravimetric methods, as well as with some complementary indices and measures (vacuity, fullness and relative importance). In this study, this species fed mainly on Copepoda, Mysidacea, small caridean grass shrimps (Hippolytidae and Palaemonidae) and small fishes (Gobiidae) and to a lesser degree on other small invertebrates. No significant differences were found between the diets of males and females. However, significant differences in the fullness indexes of both sexes were observed during the reproductive period. Significant differences in the diet among seasons were also verified but no seasonal trends were discovered. Snout length showed a linear increase with growth while mouth area and total length displayed an allometric relation. Mouth shape varied between an ellipse and an almost perfect circle. The increase in mouth area and snout length as S. typhle grows contributed to the observed ontogenic diet shift with specimens smaller than 10 cm feeding almost exclusively on Copepoda, medium sized specimens feeding mainly on Hippolytidae and Mysidacea, while larger specimens preyed on Hippolytidae, Palaemonidae and Gobiidae. O presente relatório descreve as atividades desenvolvidas no âmbito do estágio curricular que decorreu no Hospital Veterinário de Leiria, com a duração de seis meses e sob a orientação do Dr Ricardo Alves. Este encontra-se dividido em duas partes, referindo-se a primeira à casuística acompanhada ao longo do estágio, em que a área com maior representatividade é a clínica médica e a segunda parte consiste numa revisão bibliográfica referente ao tema “ Demodicose canina”. Finalmente segue-se a apresentação de casos clínicos acompanhados no âmbito do tema referido. A demodicose é uma patologia dermatológica causada pela proliferação anormal do ácaro Demodex spp nos folículos pilosos associada a uma desregulação do sistema imunitário. Esta patologia pode manifestar-se de forma localizada ou generalizada e ocorrer tanto em jovens como adultos, sendo mais frequente nos jovens e nos adultos é geralmente associada á existência simultânea de doença imunossupressora; Abstract: Clinic of company animal and large animals This report describes the internship that took place at the Hospital Veterinário de Leiria for a period of six months, under the guidance of Dr. Ricardo Alves. This report is divided in two sections, the first one refers to the followed clinical cases during the practice internship,in which the most representative area is the medical clinic, and the second part consist of a literature review on the “Canine Demodicosis”, finally followed by presentation of clinical cases followed under that theme. The demodicosis is a skin disease caused by the abnormal proliferation of Demodex spp mite in hair follicles associated with a dysregulation of the immune system. This disorder can manifest it self in localized or generalized forms and occurs in both young and adults, being more frequent in young pets and adults is usually associated simultaneous with other forms of immunosuppressive disease

Introduction: Allergic dermatitis (AD) is the most common canine pruritic condition in veterinary dermatology. Allergic dermatitis to flea bites presents the highest prevalence, followed by atopic dermatitis and food AD. This study aimed to identify possible correlation between data from clinical signs, intradermal tests (IDT) and specific IgE levels, which are used in dog AD assessment. Methods: Fifty five dogs from the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Évora (Portugal) and Rof Codina University Hospital (Lugo, Spain) outpatient consultations were studied by means of clinical inquiry, IDT and specific IgE determination. Thirty five of the patients belonged to predisposed breeds, 30 were females and 25 males. Forty one (74%) were indoor. Results: In 82% of cases first clinical signs appeared before the age of 3 years and 24% even before 1 year old. In 70% of the individuals clinical signs included itching, which was generalized in 66%, with 78% of paw licking and chewing. Clinical profile showed seasonal worsening in 64% of cases. From the 69.1% of dogs already presenting with dermatitis, 50% also presented external otitis and 28.9% self-inflicted alopecia. "Intense itching" was found in 10.5%, "medium itching" in 81.6% and “mild itching” in 5.26% of the patients. Prevalence of positive IDT was 37.3 % to Lep d, 29.41% to Der f, 27.5% to Der p, 25.5% to Dac g and 21.6% to Malassezia sp. From the 37 dogs submitted to food IDT, 40.5% revealed positive to beef, 27% to chicken, 27% to porc and 5.4% to lamb. Specific IgE > 150 EAU was found in 84% of dogs to indoor allergen sources and in 68% to pollens. A negative correlation was found between an outdoor life and the intensity (p = 0.033) and precocity (p = 0.026) of clinical signs. Sensitization to pollens was found positively correlated with the seasonality of clinical signs (p = 0.001) and the positivity for Dac g (p = 0.007). The prevalence of chronic otitis correlated positively with alopecia and reactivity to Lep d (p = 0.008), Plantago lanceolata (p = 0.026) and Platanus acerifolia (p = 0.017). There was no correlation between the results of ITD and specific IgE. Conclusion: We can conclude that correlation between different clinical signs and positive testing for some allergenic sources may occur, as well as between sensitization to pollens and the beginning, the intensity and the seasonality of dog patient clinical signs.

ABSTRACT The red mite Oligonychus yothersi is one of the main pests of yerba mate in Brazil The damage this mite causes leads to leaf drop and decreased production. There are no registered acaricides for use in yerba mate; thus, laboratory and field experiments were performed to evaluate the effect of azadirachtin (Azamax ® , 250mL 100L -1 ) for the control of the red mite in yerba mate. In the laboratory, azadirachtin was applied to yerba mate leaf disks before (residual contact) and after (direct contact) infestation with 15 newly emerged red mite adult females. The effect of azadirachtin on mite behavior was evaluated in arenas with treated and untreated yerba mate leaves, and the number of mites in both areas was recorded. Ovicidal action was evaluated by applying azadirachtin to eggs and recording egg hatching. In the field, two applications of the product were performed (1L spray liquid plant-1) with a 7-day interval. The numbers of living mites were evaluated at 7, 14 and 21 days following the first application on randomly collected leaves. It was observed 86.6 and 91.4% of mortality following 24h of residual and direct contact, respectively. Repellent (62% of individuals leaving the treated area) and ovicidal (98.9% decrease in egg hatching) effects were also observed. The mite population in the yerba mate crop field had decreased by 59.6% at 14 days after the first application of azadirachtin. The results show the potential of azadirachtin for the control of O. yothersi in yerba mate in Brazil.Key words: neem, alternative control, yerba mate pest. RESUMO O ácaro Oligonychus yothersi é uma das principais pragas da cultura da erva-mate. Seus danos levam à queda das folhas e redução da produção. Não há acaricidas registrados para uso na erva-mate e por isso foram realizados experimentos em laboratório e a campo para avaliar o efeito da azadiractina (Azamax®, 250mL 100L-1), visando ao controle da espécie na cultura da erva mate. Em laboratório, o produto foi aplicado em discos de folha de erva-mate antes (contato residual) e depois (contato direto) da infestação com 15 fêmeas adultas recém-emergidas do ácaro vermelho. A ação do produto no comportamento do ácaro foi avaliada em arenas com folhas de erva-mate tratadas e não tratadas, registrando-se o número de ácaros em ambas as áreas. Além disso, a ação ovicida foi avaliada, aplicando-se o produto sobre ovos e registrando a sua eclosão. No campo, foram realizadas duas aplicações do produto (1L de calda planta-1), espaçadas sete dias. Avaliou-se o número de ácaros vivos, aos 7, 14 e 21 dias após a primeira aplicação, em folhas coletadas aleatoriamente. Observou-se ação acaricida (86,6 e 91,4% de mortalidade após 24h, respectivamente, por contato residual e direto; repelência (62% dos indivíduos abandonando a área tratada) e ação ovicida (redução de 98,9% na eclosão). Na lavoura de erva-mate, a redução populacional do ácaro foi de 59.6% aos 14 dias após a primeira aplicação do produto. Os resultados demonstram o potencial de emprego da azadiractina para o controle de O. yothersi na cultura da erva-mate.Palavra-chave: nim, controle alternativo, praga da erva-mate.

There are approximately 90,000 ha of grapes in Brazil including wine, juice and table grapes. American varieties (Isabella, Niagara, Ives) comprise the largest part of Brazilian viticulture being destined for wine, juice and table grape. In Southern Brazil, these varieties are produced mainly in non grafted vineyards. Grape phylloxera is common on the roots of these varieties however the insect is not regarded as a serious problem. Leaf galls are common on V. vinifera cultivars, particularly Cabernet sauvignon, and this infestation can be severe in some years causing defoliation. No information about insect damage on leaves in relation to vineyard production and longevity is available. New selections from a breeding program aimed at developing new hybrids for wine production are highly susceptible to damage from leaf galling phylloxera. When leaf galling is severe, growers spray pyretroid and neonicotinoid insecticides however, in many situations, secondary mites can also damage the crop as a consequence of the foliar broad spectrum insecticides application. Studies about the genetic diversity of grape phylloxera strains in Brazil and their association with vine damage and secondary fungal infection must be conducted to clarify the importance of this pest to Brazilian viticulture.
