The neutron (PF2)-P-3 pairing gap in pure neutron matter, neutron (PF2)-P-3 gap and neutron-proton (SD1)-S-3 gap in symmetric nuclear matter have been studied by using the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock(BHF) approach and the BCS theory. We have concentrated on investigating and discussing the three-body force effect on the nucleon superfluidity. The calculated results indicate that the three-body force enhances remaxkably the (PF2)-P-3 superfluidity in neutron matter. It also enhances the (PF2)-P-3 superfluidity in symmetric nuclear matter and its effect increases monotonically as the Fermi-momentum k(F) increases, whereas the three-body force is shown to influence only weakly the neutron-proton (SD1)-S-3 gap in symmetric nuclear matter.

The neutron (PF2)-P-3 pairing gap in pure neutron matter has been studied by using the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock( BHF) approach and the BCS theory. We have concentrated our attention on investigating the three-body force effect on the neutron superfluidity in the (PF2)-P-3 channel. The calculated results indicate that the three-body force enhances remarkably the (PF2)-P-3 superfluidity in neutron matter. When adopting the BHF single-particle spectrum, the three-body force turns out to increase the maximum value of the pairing gap from about 0.22 MeV to about 0.5 MeV.

The Josephson equations for a Bose-Einstein Condensate gas trapped in a double-well potential are derived with the two-mode approximation by the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The dynamical characteristics of the equations are obtained by the numerical phase diagrams. The nonlinear self-trapping effect appeared in the phase diagrams are emphatically discussed, and the condition EcN > 4E(J) is presented.

The biophysical characteristics of heavy ions make them a rational source of radiation for use in radiotherapy of malignant tumours. Prior to radiotherapy treatment, a therapeutic regimen must be precisely defined, and during this stage information on individual patient radiosensitivity would be of very great medical value. There are various methods to predict radiosensitivity, but some shortfalls are difficult to avoid. The present study investigated the induction of chromatid breaks in five different cell lines, including one normal liver cell line (L02), exposed to carbon ions accelerated by the heavy ion research facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL), using chemically induced premature chromosome condensation (PCC). Previous studies have reported the number of chromatid breaks to be linearly related to the radiation dose, but the relationship between cell survival and chromatid breaks is not clear. The major result of the present study is that cellular radiosensitivity, as measured by D-0, is linearly correlated with the frequency of chromatid breaks per Gy in these five cell lines. We propose that PCC may be applied to predict radiosensitivity of tumour cells exposed to heavy ions.

Within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock framework, the equation of state and the properties of newborn neutron stars are investigated by adopting a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction AV(18) supplemented with a microscopic three-body force or a phenomenological three-body force. The maximum mass of newborn neutron star and the proton fraction in the newborn beta-stable neutron-star matter are calculated. The neutrino-trapping and the three-body force effects are discussed, and the interplay between the effects of the trapped neutrino and the three-body force are especially explored. It is shown that neutrino trapping considerably affects the proton abundance and the equation of state of the newborn neutron star in both cases with and without the three-body forces. The effect of neutrino trapping remarkably enhances the proton abundance, and the contribution of the three-body force makes the equation of state of the newborn neutron star much stiffer at high densities and consequently increases the proton abundance strongly. The trapped neutrinos significantly reduce the influence of the three-body force on the proton abundance in newborn neutron stars.

The proton-neutron interaction in determining the evolution of nuclear structure has been studied by using the Brillouin-Wigner perturbation expansion. The particle-hole and particle-particle p-n interactions are unifiedly described in the theory. The obtained formulas of level energies and excitation energies scaled in the small- and large-NpNn limits can well explain the linearity of the extracted proton-neutron interaction energies and the attenuation of the 2(1)(+) excitation energies against the valence nucleon product NpNn for five mass regions from A = 100-200.

A facile magnetic control system was designed in bioelectrocatalytic process based on functionalized iron oxide particles. The iron oxide particles were modified with glucose oxidase, and ferrocene dicarboxylic acid was used as electron transfer mediator. Functionalized iron oxide particles can assemble along the direction of applied magnetic field, and the directional dependence of the assembled iron oxide particles can be utilized for device purposes. We report here how such functionalized magnetic particles are used to modulate the bioelectrocatalytic signal by changing the orientation of the applied magnetic field. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. The core-shell structured YNbO4:Eu3+/Tb3+@SiO2 particles were realized by coating the YNbO4:Etr(3+)/Tb3+ phosphors onto the surface of spherical silica via a sol-gel process. The obtained materials were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra.

Nanostructured CaWO4, CaWO4:Eu3+, and CaWO4:Tb3+ phosphor particles were synthesized via a facile sonochemical route. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, photoluminescence, low voltage cathodoluminescence spectra, and photoluminescence lifetimes were used to characterize the as-obtained samples. The X-ray diffraction results indicate that the samples are well crystallized with the scheelite structure of CaWO4.

CeF3:Tb3+ nanoparticles were successfully prepared by a polyol process using diethylene glycol ( DEG) as solvent. After being coated with dense silica, these CeF3:Tb3+ nanoparticles can be coated with mesoporous silica using nonionic triblock copolymer EO20PO70EO20 ( P 123) as structure-directing agent. The composite can load ibuprofen and release the drug in the PBS. The composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction ( XRD), transmission electron microscopy ( TEM), nitrogen absorption/desorption isotherms, fluorescence spectra, and UV/Vis absorption spectra, respectively.

The deformation mechanism of a styrene/n-butyl acrylate copolymer latex film subjected to uniaxial tensile stress was studied by small-angle X-ray scattering. The influence of annealing at 23, 60, 80, and 100 degrees C for 4 h on microscopic deformation processes was elucidated. It was demonstrated that the microscopic deformation mechanism of the latex films transformed gradually from nonaffine deformation behavior to affine deformation behavior with increasing annealing temperature.

Nanostructured PbS with different morphologies and particle sizes have been prepared through a polyol process. Narrow size distribution for star-shaped, octahedral, tetradecanehedral, and cubic products were achieved by slowly introducing the source materials using a peristaltic pump in the presence of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as additive. Systematic variation of the kinetic factors, including the additive, the reaction temperature, the duration time, the ratio of source materials, the Sulfur sources, and the Pb(Ac)(2)center dot 3H(2)O concentration, reveals that the morphology depends mainly on the supersaturation degree of the free sulfur ions released from thiourea under elevated temperature.
