The new digital technologies have led to widespread use of cloud computing, recognition of the potential of big data analytics, and significant progress in aspects of the Internet of Things, such as home automation, smart cities and grids and digital manufacturing. In addition to closing gaps in respect of the basic necessities of access and usage, now the conditions must be established for using the new platforms and finding ways to participate actively in the creation of content and even new applications and platforms. This message runs through the three chapters of this book. Chapter I presents the main features of the digital revolution, emphasizing that today’s world economy is a digital economy. Chapter II examines the region’s strengths and weaknesses with respect to digital access and consumption. Chapter III reviews the main policy debates and urges countries to take a more proactive approach towards, for example, regulation, network neutrality and combating cybercrime. The conclusion highlights two crucial elements: first, the need to take steps towards a single regional digital market that can compete in a world of global platforms by tapping the benefits of economies of scale and developing network economies; and second, the significance of the next stage of the digital agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean (eLAC2018), which will embody the latest updates to a cooperation strategy that has been in place for over a decade.

O tema deste estudo é o fenômeno empresarial responsabilidade social. Esta pesquisa constitui um estudo de caso com uma empresa socialmente responsável, objetivando verificar a percepção do consumidor acerca da responsabilidade social desta empresa e sua influência, em conjunto com algumas variáveis de desempenho empresarial (preço da tarifa, serviço de energia elétrica, atendimento ao cliente, comunicação com o cliente), na satisfação do consumidor. A empresa estudada foi a Rede Celpa Centrais Elétricas do Pará S.A. Em estudo preliminar foi desenvolvido um instrumental de mensuração do significado atribuído pelo consumidor ao termo responsabilidade social (Escala de Significado de Responsabilidade Social), validado com amostra de 672 consumidores belenenses. Esta escala foi adaptada e renomeada para Escala de Responsabilidade Social, a fim de ser utilizada no presente estudo. Também foram construídos mais dois instrumentos (Indicadores de Desempenho Empresarial e Avaliação de Satisfação do Consumidor) para alcançar os objetivos pretendidos. O levantamento dos dados se deu por meio de análise de documentos existentes na empresa; entrevistas em profundidade com a categoria diretiva da empresa; amostragem residencial de 595 consumidores de energia elétrica, moradores dos bairros Cremação e Umarizal, na cidade de Belém. Os dados foram analisados através de Análise de Conteúdo, Análise Fatorial e Análise de Regressão Múltipla e Hierárquica. O fato da concessionária Rede Celpa realizar ações de cunho socialmente responsável ainda não é claramente percebido pelo seu consumidor, embora tenha ciência de que a empresa cumpre obrigações legais no trato de funcionários, consumidores e meio ambiente. As variáveis de desempenho empresarial atestaram efeito sobre a satisfação do consumidor, embora tenha restado uma margem de variância não explicada sugerindo a necessidade de explorar outras variáveis antecedentes. A empresa teve seus atributos avaliados com conceitos variando de razoável a bom pelo consumidor, o que contribui para que este demonstre grau moderado quanto à satisfação em consumir desta concessionária.

Electrical energy is present in the lives of all people and is extremely important that it be delivered to end users with plenty of quality, safety and low costs. The electric power substations are responsible for transmission and distribution of electricity generating sources to consumers, and with technological advances and the subsequent automation of same, the electricity began to be delivered with greater continuity and reliability. Protection systems in substations are largely responsible for making the electricity reaches the final consumer with quality, since their function is to prevent the spread of any type of failure occurred at any point of transmission to the load centers. These systems consist primarily by the current transformers and potential, by the protective relays and circuit breakers and switchgear. The processors send the necessary data to the relays and, if those detect any abnormality in the system, operate the opening command of the branch circuit breakers to isolate where the fault. Therefore, it is essential to better understand the operation of such equipment, as well as the overall system. This work aims to study the main substation equipment, current transformers and potential and, especially, protection relays, in order to obtain the advantages that automated systems can provide

The objective of this study was to find and discuss the possibilities of action of a public relations professional in social media, taking as an example, the most popular, Facebook and Twitter, to work the organizational communication with the public consumer. Social media are gaining more followers, who are seeking information on companies before consuming your products or hire your services, getting attention for any kind of promotion or crisis of this organization. We saw how public relations mediate communication between company and consumer, being responsible for the clear, objective and correct posting of your organization in social media

As a result of the 20th-century industrial development, and particularly after World War II, cars have become an important consumer good, and this has led to a large number of circulating vehicles. To this day, the number of cars has increased exponentially worldwide, which results in a high number of traffic accidents (TAs) every day. TAs are responsible for 1.2 million deaths worldwide each year, and in Brazil, they are considered to be a public health problem, considering that its traffic is regarded as one of the worst and most dangerous in the world. In addition to temporary or permanent physical disabilities that bring great harm to individuals, accidents also cause psychological disorders, such as the post-traumatic stress disorder. Hence, considering the importance of TAs in the country and their outcomes, this study aimed at investigating the epidemiological aspects of car accidents occurring in 2010 who were assisted in the emergency room of a university hospital in São Paulo state. By means of records made by the nursing team and medical records analysis, it was possible to extract a stratified sample of 88 cases involving adults and eight cases involving children. The sample was analyzed by the SAS software for Windows, version 9.2. As regards the accidents involving adults, there was a predominance of males (67%), with an approximate 2:1 ratio in relation to females. The victims’ most frequent age range was 20-29 years (39%), and they were mostly single (56%). The month showing the largest number of occurrences was July, with 17%, and the weekday was Sunday, with 25%. Showing 32%, the time period when most accidents occurred was from 06:00 o’clock p.m. to 11:59 p.m. As regards vehicles types involved, motorcycles were in first place, with 47% of cases, and the most common accident type was crashing between vehicles, with 43%...
