Molecularly imprinted sensor for voltammetric detection of norfloxacin

In this work, a norfloxacin selective modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as electrochemical sensor was developed. A suspension of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was deposited on the electrode surface. Subsequently, a molecularly imprinted film was prepared by electropolymerization, via cyclic voltammetry of pyrrole (PPy) in the presence of norfloxacin (NFX) as the template molecule. A control electrode (NIP) was also prepared. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry in a ferrocyanide solution were performed for morphological and electrochemical characterisation, respectively. Several experimental parameters were studied and optimised. For quantification purposes the MIP/MWCNT/GCE was immersed in NFX solutions for 10 min, and the detection was performed in voltammetric cell by square wave voltammetry. The proposed sensor presented a linear behaviour, between peak current intensity and logarithmic concentration of NFX between 1 × 10−7 and 8 × 10−6 M. The obtained results presented good precision, with a repeatability of 4.3% and reproducibility of 9% and the detection limit was 4.6 × 10−8 M (S/N = 3). The developed sensor displayed good selectivity and operational lifetime, is simple to fabricate and easy to operate and was successfully applied to the analysis of NFX in urine samples.

Padronização do Uso de Imunoglobulina Anti-D na Profilaxia da Isoimunização Rh

A isoimunização RhD durante a gravidez tem graves repercussões fetais e neonatais. Apesar da imunoprofilaxia com imunoglobulina anti-D ter diminuído drasticamente a mortalidade e morbilidade perinatais, continuam a existir casos de isoimunização que se devem a uma administração inadequada. No âmbito de um projecto de padronização da administração de imunoglobulina anti-D, foram levados a cabo um inquérito aos obstetras da MAC e uma análise retrospectiva de processos de mulheres RhD negativas. Neste artigo são apresentados os resultados destes dois trabalhos. É também apresentada uma proposta de protocolo de imunoprofilaxia.

Stochasticity favoring the effects of the R&D strategies of the firms

We present stochastic dynamics on the production costs of Cournot competitions, based on perfect Nash equilibria of nonlinear R&D investment strategies to reduce the production costs of the firms at every period of the game. We analyse the effects that the R&D investment strategies can have in the profits of the firms along the time. We observe that, in certain cases, the uncertainty can improve the effects of the R&D strategies in the profits of the firms due to the non-linearity of the profit functions and also of the R&D parameters.

Impact of sensor nodes scaling and velocity on handover mechanisms for healthcare wireless sensor networks with mobility support

Health promotion in hospital environments can be improved using the most recent information and communication technologies. The Internet connectivity to small sensor nodes carried by patients allows remote access to their bio-signals. To promote these features the healthcare wireless sensor networks (HWSN) are used. In these networks mobility support is a key issue in order to keep patients under realtime monitoring even when they move around. To keep sensors connected to the network, they should change their access points of attachment when patients move to a new coverage area along an infirmary. This process, called handover, is responsible for continuous network connectivity to the sensors. This paper presents a detailed performance evaluation study considering three handover mechanisms for healthcare scenarios (Hand4MAC, RSSI-based, and Backbone-based). The study was performed by simulation using several scenarios with different number of sensors and different moving velocities of sensor nodes. The results show that Hand4MAC is the best solution to guarantee almost continuous connectivity to sensor nodes with less energy consumption.

Cournot duopoly with competition in the R&D expenditures

We present a new R&D investment in a Cournot Duopoly model and we analyze the different possible types of Nash R&D investments. We observe that the new production costs region can be decomposed in three economical regions, depending on the Nash R&D investment, showing the relevance of the use of patents in new technologies.

Quality-of-service aware routing for static and mobile IPv6-based low-power and lossy sensor networks using RPL

The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a paradigm over the last few years as a result of the tight integration of the computing and the physical world. The requirement of remote sensing makes low-power wireless sensor networks one of the key enabling technologies of IoT. These networks encompass several challenges, especially in communication and networking, due to their inherent constraints of low-power features, deployment in harsh and lossy environments, and limited computing and storage resources. The IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) [1] was proposed by the IETF ROLL (Routing Over Low-power Lossy links) working group and is currently adopted as an IETF standard in the RFC 6550 since March 2012. Although RPL greatly satisfied the requirements of low-power and lossy sensor networks, several issues remain open for improvement and specification, in particular with respect to Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees and support for mobility. In this paper, we focus mainly on the RPL routing protocol. We propose some enhancements to the standard specification in order to provide QoS guarantees for static as well as mobile LLNs. For this purpose, we propose OF-FL (Objective Function based on Fuzzy Logic), a new objective function that overcomes the limitations of the standardized objective functions that were designed for RPL by considering important link and node metrics, namely end-to-end delay, number of hops, ETX (Expected transmission count) and LQL (Link Quality Level). In addition, we present the design of Co-RPL, an extension to RPL based on the corona mechanism that supports mobility in order to overcome the problem of slow reactivity to frequent topology changes and thus providing a better quality of service mainly in dynamic networks application. Performance evaluation results show that both OF-FL and Co-RPL allow a great improvement when compared to the standard specification, mainly in terms of packet loss ratio and average network latency. 2015 Elsevier B.V. Electrochemical sensor for simultaneous determination of herbicide MCPA and its metabolite 4-chloro-2-methylphenol. Application to photodegradation environmental monitoring

The development and application of a polyaniline/carbon nanotube (CNT) cyclodextrin matrix (PANI-β-CD/MWCNT)-based electrochemical sensor for the quantitative determination of the herbicide 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and its main transformation product 4-chloro-2-methylphenol in natural waters are described. A simple cyclic voltammetry-based electrochemical methodology, in phosphate buffer solution at pH 6.0, was used to develop a method to determine both MCPA and 4-chloro-2-methylphenol, without any previous extraction or derivatization steps. A linear concentration range (10 to 50 μmol L−1) and detection limits of 1.1 and 1.9 μmol L−1, respectively, were achieved using optimized cyclic voltammetric parameters. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of MCPA and 4-chloro-2-methylphenol in natural water samples with satisfactory recoveries (94 to 107 %) and in good agreement with the results obtained by an established high-performance liquid chromatography technique, no significant differences being found between the methods. Interferences from ionic species and other herbicides used for broad-leaf weed control were shown to be small. The newly developed methodology was also successfully applied to MCPA photodegradation environmental studies.

O presente trabalho tem como tema a Troca Electrónica de Dados (Electronic Data Interchange – EDI) transferência de dados estruturados, respeitando mensagens normalizadas estabelecidas, computador a computador, por meios electrónicos. Trocas entre computadores refere-se a trocas entre aplicações informáticas: por exemplo o sistema de encomendas envia ordens ao sistema central de controlo da produção, o qual então fará o envio da respectiva factura. O EDI aberto faz a troca electrónica de dados entre parceiros autónomos que se associaram para fazerem trocas de dados estruturados que são destinados a serem processados por programas de aplicações.

The effects of the experimental infection from a focus of transmission of Schistosoma mansoni in a population of Biomphalaria tenagophila (D'Orbigny, 1835) in the region of "Vale do Ribeira de Iguape", Brazil

To observe the effects of the parasitic infection on the biology of B. tenagophila, field and laboratory populations of this mollusk from Itariri, in Vale do Ribeira, Brazil, were experimentally infected. Each mollusk received 10 miracidia of Schistosoma mansoni (SJ lineage) and was observed throughout the parasite's development. The biological variables were compared according to the criteria "group" and "infectious phase". The main damage caused by the parasitic infection manifested itself in reproduction, longevity and lesions on the shell of the mollusks in the patent phase. An infection rate of 58.8% was observed. Microanatomical study of the mollusk's digestive gland and ovotestis revealed the presence of evolving larval forms and cercariae. It was concluded that the effects of the parasitic infection on both populations were moderate, despite the low survival rate of the infected mollusks, the damage did not prevent either reproduction or the elimination of cercariae, which continued for a long time.

Ethno-pragmatique et prosodie. Présentation d'une hypothèse de recherche pluridisciplinaire dans le domaine des sciences du langage et de la culture

L'hypothèse de recherche que nous souhaitons vous présenter ici a pour objet l&s fonctions pragmatiques de Ia prosodie. L'ensemble de notre Projet de Recherche s'organise en effet autour d'une seule (mais fondamentale) hypothèse de travail: c'est dans et par Ia prosodie que pour Vessentiel le langage contribue activement à Ia construction du lien social. La formulation de cette hypothèse resulte des travaux que nous avons menés dans le champ de FAnthropologie des rites, étudiés dans une perspective sémiologique (au sens large), visant à mieux saisir dans quelle mesure et selon quelles modalités, dans et par le rite, Vordre du signe est signe de 1'ordreK Le rite constitue un système complexe de comrpunication symbolique qui contribue en effet activement à definir sur le plan sémantique et à structurer sur le plan dramaturgique les situations d'interaction sociale.

Divertículo da Uretra no Serviço de Cirurgia Pediátrica do Hospital D. Estefânia

Os autores apresentam uma revisão de casos clínicos de crianças, do Serviço de Cirurgia Pediátrica do Hospital D. Estefânia (HDE), com o diagnóstico de divertículo da uretra (DU) num período compreendido entre 1999 e 2005. Foram encontradas 5 crianças com este diagnóstico, 4 do sexo masculino e uma do sexo feminino, com idades (na altura do diagn óstico) compreendidas entre 6º dia de vida e os 11 anos. As primeiras manifestações clínicas incluíam infecções urinárias de repetição, hidronefrose bilateral com alterações da função renal, diminuição da força e calibre do jacto urinário e hematúria total. O diagnóstico foi feito por uretrocistografia permiccional (UCGPM) em três casos e uretroscopiaemdois. Em três casos optou-se por ressecção da porção distal do divertículo. Noutra criança optou-se por espera vigilante, tendo-se efectuado uretrografias periódicas para verificar a variação de volume do díverticulo. A uretroplastia com retalho perineal foi opção terapêutica para uma criança com DU congénito volumoso e obstrução ao esvaziamento vesical muito grave. Quer nas crianças em que se optou pela espera vigilante, quer nas que foram submetidas a tratamento cirúrgico, os resultados foram, globalmente bons: todas as crianças foram capazes de urinar com jacto normal no pós-operatório imediato, a função renal retomou a normalidade nas crianças em que se verificava elevação pré-operatória dos níveis séricos de creatinina e todas as crianças se encontram assintomáticas desde há nove meses.

Coma Hipocalcémico por Hipervitaminose D

A intoxicação pela vitamina D é uma causa bem conhecida de hipercalcémia e hiperfosfatemia. Nos casos de intoxicação crónica, quando o produto fosfocálcico é superior a 60 mg2/dl2, verifica-se a deposição de cristais de fosfato de cálcio, nos tecidos moles, com subsequente hipocalcémia. Apresenta-se o caso de uma lactente de três meses de idade, com antecedentes pessoais irrelevantes, internada na Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos, por tetania e coma resultante da intoxicação crónica acidental pela vitamina D, desde os dez dias de vida. Apresentava hipocalcémia (cálcio total 4,44mg/dl e cálcio ionizado 0,45 mg/dl) e hiper-fosfatémia (fósforo 17,8 mg/dl) grave, sendo o produto fosfocálcico de 79 mg2/dl2. A intoxicação pela vitamina D e hipocalcémia paradoxal foi confirmada pelo doseamento de 1,25-vitamina D.
