Murilo Mendes, Francis Ponge e o poema em prosa

The present paper aims to discuss the configuration of the prose poem both in the works of Murilo Mendes' Poliedro (1972) and Francis Ponge's Le parti pris des choses (1942). From the beginning, the similarity between both works is explained by the impulse of focusing on daily objects and also the diverse positioning of the lyrical subjects in Murilo Mendes (less objective) and Francis Ponge (more objective) when they establish a relation with the simple things they wish to marvel. In accordance, the form of the prose poem helps to build this specific and singular view of the objects. Using this background to dialogue with the critical scholarly resources on both writers, we briefly analyse some poems and set out to reflect on the prose poem, which holds the works of the Brazilian and the French poets open to comparison.

Sílabas métricas em Terenciano Mauro, De Syllabis, 997-1299

This monograph addresses to the study of Latin metrical notions and concepts as showed in the volume VI of Heinrich Keil’s work, entitled Grammatici Latini (GL): Scriptores Artis Metricae. From that book, it was chosen Terentianus Maurus’s work for corpus, particularly the excerpt between verses 997 and 1299 of De Syllabis, a part of Terentianus’s De Litteris, De Syllabis, De Metris, which is a metric manual written in verses. Until now, there are only three translations of that text into modern languages: two in Italian (one of them was used for comparison with the translation prepared for this monograph) and a French one. That work still contains many reference notes whenever Terentianus Maurus uses ancient authors to demonstrate his explanations on Metrics. Thus this research intends to join in other analysis made on Latin metrical manuals that have already been translated or are still going to be, as well as to notice the importance and the specific value of meter in ancient poetry

L'Arrière-pays de Yves Bonnefoy, viagem e escrita de si

This essay attempts to approach the book L’Arrière-pays by Yves Bonnefoy from two central ideas: the notion of travel and autobiographical writing. They belong to the poet’s project, according to which, since L’Improbable published in 1959, and with reference to Baudelaire, “poetry and travel are of the same substance”. Invited by Albert Skira to participate in the collection  Sentiers de la création, Yves Bonnefoy produces in  L’Arrière-pays  a long essay in which he combines art criticism, philosophical reflection and personal narrative. With narrative projects abandoned or transformed into poems, as in the case of L’Ordalie, incorporated into the book Du Mouvement et de l’immobilité de Douve (1953), Yves Bonnefoy in L’Arrière-pays establishes a first path to reconsider the association between narrative and fiction and, for that reason, is the central text of what the poet called his «conversion».

Um jogo de mapas ou sobre engano geográfico de Marília Garcia

This essay aims to analyze the book Engano geográfico Marília Garcia, published in 2012. It is a long narrative poem that recounts a trip through Spanish and French landscapes, and which allows to question various shifts of the poetic voice. One of them, marked by the duplicity between geographic and poetic journey which I could characterize as a be­ 76 Revista semestral do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras – UFES tween-place given by the sign of waiting. A second, through a dialogical instance that allows a process of depoetization of the language with its permeability to other voices. Finally, through the presence of several pronouns “I”, “he”, “she”, “you”, without explicit textual reference, and that would indicate a kind of closeness of the loving attention.

Discurso constelar e contingência: a pregnância de Mallarmé

The aim of this article is to discuss Mallarmé‘s poem A throw of dice, establishing some theoretical interfaces among Jakobson‘s reading, Lacan‘s psychoanalysis and some elements from the French discourse analysis. The poem, considered a milestone of modern poetry, has already engendered various discourses about itself, what allows us to consider it here a permanent invention, or yet, a throw of dice in eternal whirl. Attentive to the roaring of such discourses, and available for listening the theory that contributes to the poem‘s critical analysis, the reading herein engaged bets on the profit that the Mallarmé‘s poem study carries, for the perception of contemporary poetry, which inherited from him the double-sided lyrical coin: high revision of the possibilities of invention and very strong metalanguage.

The Invisible Blackness of Harryette Mullen's Poetry: Writing, Miscegenation, and What Remains to Be Seen

This essay addresses the poetics of Harryette Mullen, an awarded African-American female poet whose work questions the boundaries that shape the expectations for accessible intelligibility in African-American literature. Mullen’s poems skirt the edges of intelligibility by going beyond the expectations for a visible/intelligible form of language that would embrace the experience of blackness. I argue that writing in Mullen’s poetry works as process of miscegenation by playing on the illegibility of blackness, beyond a visible line of distinction between what is or should be considered part of blackness itself, which engages new forms of reflection on poetry as a politically meaningful tool for rethinking the role of the black (female) poet within the black diaspora.

The phenomenon of the World Wide Web, the Internet, has revolutionized the way we live in a contemporary relevance. The relationships among people have changed since the media also changed: the cyberspace has been established as an important vehicle of communication in which different languages, cultures and peoples coexist. Within the virtual space there are several fica possibilities for communication, interaction, fun, knowledge etc. Everything happens extremely quickly. An interesting example of that are blogs that, to survive virtuality, require constant updating. It has become interesting to notice the factor of personal expressiveness taking a new shape in the context of network, before being seen in elements such as diaries, poetry, artistic production or debate. The chances and, thus, the need to find people to interact and to share interests has taken a gigantic proportion, and, in this way, sources of audiovisual and reading activities are always in vogue, being shared every second. Blogging can be about different subjects, but what is perceived on all blogs is the strong trace of written text is always presented. Twitter has established itself as a microblogging network for the expression of dynamism, information sharing and interaction. Thus, it was interesting to approach the manner language is expressed in these microblogs thinking about the way that literary discourse is constructed when is seen, on quotations, in the context of this social network: Twitter. Being able to attest the great increase on the occurrences of quotes from different literary genres, it was useful to pay attention to this fact. In Brazil, Twitter has thousands of users, fans and readers, that rewrite and quote authors. The number of quotations is so abundant that it has popularized several Brazilian writers, such as: Clarice Lispector and Caio Fernando Abreu; authors that are frequetenly quoted. This article aims to trace a brief panorama of the Oulipo group, founded in France in the sixties and still in existence. This group became known by the rules imposed on its members for the creation of any literary text and also, for fl irting with mathematics. The purpose of this study is to enumerate some of the many constraints created by the group and connect some procedures to the surrealist movement.

L'Inspiration romantique de Gaspard de la Nuit

In this work, we intend to show that Aloysius Bertrand in “Gaspard de la Nuit” drew the inspiration to his poems in prose from its nearest context: that one of French Revolution and the revolt of the spirit against everything which would impose an exaggerated materialism. Thus, in the middle of Enlightenment, there were those who went in search of “mysterious realities” and a “sense of mystery” that the pre-romantic literature in Britain and in Germany would express in its poetry. It is also in the 18th century that some works about the “Commedia dell‟arte” and caricature concede to the grotesque a significant part in the formation of art, extending it to the supernatural and the absurd.

O dramático e o poético em Le concile féerique, de Jules Laforgue

We briefl y present here a dramatic work of the French Symbolist poet Jules Laforgue – Le Concile Féerique. During the analysis, we see collages of Fleurs de bonne volonté poems, conceived in a dialogued and original way, showing us, mostly, in the work of the French poet, the modernity and the persistence of poetry.

Paródia e ironia em moralités légendaires de jules laforgue

Jules Laforgue is a French Symbolist poet, he wrote poetry works such as Les complaintes, L’imitation de Notre-Dame, la lune, Le sanglot de la terre. In spite of mostly of symbolist poets write only poetry, he also dedicated himself to prose works such as Moralités Légendaires, a particular work in prose and extreme today as in the nineteenth century, he devoted himself to parody and irony. The novels that make up this book are the work of writing and tone of nuance. They refer to literary genres, without, however, respect their definitions. There are demarcation of famous texts, but that refer more to modes, themes, and aesthetic conventions. Here, the poet makes variations on familiar themes, and explore his Moralités arguments that belong to a cultural background: the myth of Hamlet, approached the novel here mentioned belong to a cultural heritage that an author set for posterity. In other novels, the author makes use of myths Greco-Latin and Judeo-Christian myths rewriting so parodic, ironic, looking for originality, doing the work of Symbolist and modern poet.

A Poética do amor em O Romance da Rosa

We aim with this article to analyze the poetics of love in The Romance of the Rose. We think that Guillaume de Lorris’s conception of love is associated with the flourishing of the French courtly society of the XIII Century, and that Jean de Meun’s conception of love is a result of the decline of this same society. Behind the virtues offered by Guillaume to the medieval lover we find the notion of courtesy, of the art of living in society, the understanding of the poetry as a form of ethics, and the medieval poetic of desire – intimately associated with the religious mysticism appeared from the XI Century and with the troubadours’ poetry. Jean is more influenced by the Ovidian tradition of thinking about the causes and effects of love. In the first part of the poem, Guillaume idealizes the conquest of the Rose; in the second, Jean describes the cueillette of the Rose, which could be read as a rape, in an allegorical way. It is this tension between different conceptions of love in a same poem that makes possible a better comprehension of the ways people used to think and feel in the Middle Ages.
