The use of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) for prostate cancer has increased over recent years, mainly for detection, staging, and active surveillance. However, suspicion of recurrence in the set of biochemical failure is becoming a significant reason for clinicians to request mp-MRI. Radiologists should be able to recognize the normal post-treatment MRI findings. Fibrosis and atrophic remnant seminal vesicles after prostatectomy are often found and must be differentiated from local relapse. Moreover, brachytherapy, external beam radiotherapy, cryosurgery, and hormonal therapy tend to diffusely decrease the signal intensity of the peripheral zone on T2-weighted images (T2WI) due to the loss of water content, consequently mimicking tumor and hemorrhage. The combination of T2WI and functional studies like diffusion-weighted imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced improves the identification of local relapse. Tumor recurrence tends to restrict on diffusion images and avidly enhances after contrast administration either within or outside the gland. The authors provide a pictorial review of the normal findings and the signs of local tumor relapse after radical prostatectomy, external beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy, cryosurgery, and hormonal therapy.

RESUMO - Em Portugal estima-se que existam cerca de 14 mil insuficientes renais crónicos e estima-se que em 2025 sejam 24 mil. As alternativas de tratamento são: hemodiálise, diálise peritoneal ou o transplante renal. Das alternativas de tratamento, o transplante renal é considerado a melhor alternativa terapêutica proporcionando melhor qualidade de vida, aumentando a sobrevida dos doentes, caracterizando-se por ser menos oneroso e por apresentar melhor custo- efectivo, quando comparado com hemodiálise ou diálise peritoneal. Portugal situa-se entre os primeiros da Europa, relativo ao número de transplantes renais efectuados (56,1 por milhão de habitante), em 2010 efectuaram-se 573 transplantes renais. Apesar disso, muitos são os doentes que continuam em lista de espera a aguardar transplante, em média os doentes esperam cerca de dois a três anos por um transplante renal, quando o tempo ideal seria três a seis meses. Por outro lado, estudos internacionais demonstram que existem desigualdades no acesso ao transplante renal, assim à semelhança de outros países torna-se pertinente estudar a realidade portuguesa em relação à temática da desigualdade no acesso, dado o objectivo primordial do Serviço Nacional de Saúde de garantir a equidade nos cuidados de saúde. Este trabalho tem como objectivo principal avaliar se factores como o sexo, idade a localização geográfica influenciam o acesso ao transplante renal, contribuindo para desigualdades no acesso. Este trabalho baseou-se na base de dados dos doentes inscritos em lista de espera para transplante renal, respeitante à área de abrangência do Centro de Histocompatibilidade do Sul. Caracterizou-se a população quanto ao sexo, idade, concelho, região de saúde e unidade de transplantação. Determinou-se ainda, os tempos médios de espera para inscrição em lista activa e para transplante por sexo, idade, região de saúde e unidade de transplantação.Dos resultados obtidos salienta-se que as desigualdades encontradas no acesso ao transplante renal verificam-se entre o início do tratamento até à inscrição em lista activa para transplante. Depois dos doentes em lista activa, o tempo de espera médio não é influenciado significativamente pelo sexo, idade ou localização geográfica.

In this paper, we revisit the classical trade-off between centralized and decentralized provision of local public goods, in a setting where interregional spillovers depend on the level of a national public good. We compare the standard benevolent planner approach with a political economy in which decisions, in a centralized system, are undertaken by a non-cooperative legislature with no separation of powers. We observe that the policy-maker in a centralized system is able to play both with local public goods and spillovers, a mechanism that is not available under a decentralized system. When compared to the traditional exogenous spillovers assumption, this improves the case for centralization under the standard benevolent planner approach. However, the same is not necessarily true in the non-cooperative legislature, as in this case the interests of the legislator do not need to be aligned with those of the society. Finally, we extend the traditional political economy analysis by considering a legislature in which decisions are undertaken by different committees (separation of powers), and show that it performs better than the original non-cooperative legislature, greatly improving the case for centralization.

Educational stratification has been a difficult subject to deal with having yet no study shown a quantitative measure of it. Using the idea of distribution comparison a measure based on parents’ education is built for the primary schools in Lisbon. Upon the confirmation that Lisbon is stratified, I use the measure of peer effects based on stratification and determine its impact on test scores, concluding that the existence of stratification improves scores of students in schools with more educated parents and decreases scores of students in schools with less educated parents. Moreover, using fixed effects I derive the conclusion that the measure of peers’ characteristics helps explain most of differences among schools.

In the competitive landscape of the 21st century, effectively managing human capital in firms is considered to be a potential source of sustainable performance. Therefore, in this study, we tested the influence of high-performance work systems, as a talent management tool, on employees’ experience of developmental jobs. Then, we tested the mediating effect of such experiences on employees’ engagement, exhaustion, performance and turnover intention. With a sample of 254 employees of a diversity of companies and sectors of activity, our findings demonstrated that high-performance practices increase engagement, via the promotion of developmental experiences of fit, which improves performance and decreases turnover intention. Besides, those practices do not control for the pressure dimension of the developmental job experiences that increases exhaustion and turnover intention despite not worsening performance.

There is general consensus nowadays that CSR is not just altruistic do-gooding but rather a way for both companies and society to prosper. Companies themselves increasingly recognize that their sustainability depends on their willingness to assume responsibility for social and environmental issues. Academic research has, in the past, tried to theorize exactly how CSR improves business, employee satisfaction and productivity. However, few studies have a) separated the different effects of internal CSR and external CSR and b) studied these effects in times of internal organizational distrust. Hence, this paper examines the relationship between each type of CSR with two outcome variables related to employee attitudes: affective organizational commitment (AOC) and turnover intentions (TI). Furthermore, it investigates whether organizational distrust works as a moderator in each of these relationships by testing the hypothesis using a sample of 212 employees from a company that is currently going through a moment of internal crisis. Findings suggest that although all variables are strongly correlated, distrust works as a moderator for external CSR but not for internal CSR. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings conclude the paper.

This research is an investigation on the deal-specific factors impacting long-term performance of cross-border M&A and on the nature of such relations. The analysis is conducted on a sample of 187 cross-border deals completed within the pharmaceutical and biotech industries by Western European bidders between 2000 and 2009. Findings suggest that post-deal variation in gross profit improves when bidders diversify in other businesses, when assets are purchased instead of equity, and when stock is used as deal currency. Furthermore, the method of payment is found to moderate the effects geographical distance has on deal outcomes.
