The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing at a fast pace with new devices getting connected all the time. A new emerging group of these devices are the wearable devices, and Wireless Sensor Networks are a good way to integrate them in the IoT concept and bring new experiences to the daily life activities. In this paper we present an everyday life application involving a WSN as the base of a novel context-awareness sports scenario where physiological parameters are measured and sent to the WSN by wearable devices. Applications with several hardware components introduce the problem of heterogeneity in the network. In order to integrate different hardware platforms and to introduce a service-oriented semantic middleware solution into a single application, we propose the use of an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) as a bridge for guaranteeing interoperability and integration of the different environments, thus introducing a semantic added value needed in the world of IoT-based systems. This approach places all the data acquired (e.g., via Internet data access) at application developers disposal, opening the system to new user applications. The user can then access the data through a wide variety of devices (smartphones, tablets, computers) and Operating Systems (Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, etc.).

Sound pressure measurement is an extremely important process in the field of acoustic engineering, with applications in numerous subfields, like for instance building acoustics and noise control, where it is necessary to be able to accurately measure sound pressure in very diverse (and sometimes adverse) conditions. On the other hand, the growing ubiquity of mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, which combine processing power, connectivity, interactivity and an intuitive interface in a small size, makes it possible to use these devices as quality low-cost measurement systems. This Project aims to use the input-output capabilities of iOS-based mobile devices, in particular the iPhone, together with their processing power, wireless connectivity and geolocation features, to implement an acoustic measurement system that rivals the performance of existing devices. SonoPhone allows, with the addition of an adequate measurement microphone, to carry out measurements that comply with current technical regulations, as well as programming, configuring, storing and transmitting the results of the measurement. These measurements will be geolocated using the integrated GPS, and can be transmitted effortlessly to a remote cloud storage. The application is structured in modular fashion. A data acquisition module reads the signal from the microphone, while a back-end module carries out the necessary processing. Other modules permit the device to be calibrated, or control the configuration of the measurement and its storage or transmission. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) allows visual feedback on the measurement in progress, and provides the user with real-time control over the measurement parameters. Not only an application has been developed; a laboratory test was carried out with the goal of determining if the hardware of the iPhone permits the whole system to comply with international regulations regarding sound level meters.

Applications based on Wireless Sensor Networks for Internet of Things scenarios are on the rise. The multiple possibilities they offer have spread towards previously hard to imagine fields, like e-health or human physiological monitoring. An application has been developed for its usage in scenarios where data collection is applied to smart spaces, aiming at its usage in fire fighting and sports. This application has been tested in a gymnasium with real, non-simulated nodes and devices. A Graphic User Interface has been implemented to suggest a series of exercises to improve a sportsman/woman s condition, depending on the context and their profile. This system can be adapted to a wide variety of e-health applications with minimum changes, and the user will interact using different devices, like smart phones, smart watches and/or tablets.

The Web of Data currently comprises ? 62 billion triples from more than 2,000 different datasets covering many fields of knowledge3. This volume of structured Linked Data can be seen as a particular case of Big Data, referred to as Big Semantic Data [4]. Obviously, powerful computational configurations are tradi- tionally required to deal with the scalability problems arising to Big Semantic Data. It is not surprising that this ?data revolution? has competed in parallel with the growth of mobile computing. Smartphones and tablets are massively used at the expense of traditional computers but, to date, mobile devices have more limited computation resources. Therefore, one question that we may ask ourselves would be: can (potentially large) semantic datasets be consumed natively on mobile devices? Currently, only a few mobile apps (e.g., [1, 9, 2, 8]) make use of semantic data that they store in the mobile devices, while many others access existing SPARQL endpoints or Linked Data directly. Two main reasons can be considered for this fact. On the one hand, in spite of some initial approaches [6, 3], there are no well-established triplestores for mobile devices. This is an important limitation because any po- tential app must assume both RDF storage and SPARQL resolution. On the other hand, the particular features of these devices (little storage space, less computational power or more limited bandwidths) limit the adoption of seman- tic data for different uses and purposes. This paper introduces our HDTourist mobile application prototype. It con- sumes urban data from DBpedia4 to help tourists visiting a foreign city. Although it is a simple app, its functionality allows illustrating how semantic data can be stored and queried with limited resources. Our prototype is implemented for An- droid, but its foundations, explained in Section 2, can be deployed in any other platform. The app is described in Section 3, and Section 4 concludes about our current achievements and devises the future work.

With the ever growing trend of smart phones and tablets, Android is becoming more and more popular everyday. With more than one billion active users i to date, Android is the leading technology in smart phone arena. In addition to that, Android also runs on Android TV, Android smart watches and cars. Therefore, in recent years, Android applications have become one of the major development sectors in software industry. As of mid 2013, the number of published applications on Google Play had exceeded one million and the cumulative number of downloads was more than 50 billionii. A 2013 survey also revealed that 71% of the mobile application developers work on developing Android applicationsiii. Considering this size of Android applications, it is quite evident that people rely on these applications on a daily basis for the completion of simple tasks like keeping track of weather to rather complex tasks like managing one’s bank accounts. Hence, like every other kind of code, Android code also needs to be verified in order to work properly and achieve a certain confidence level. Because of the gigantic size of the number of applications, it becomes really hard to manually test Android applications specially when it has to be verified for various versions of the OS and also, various device configurations such as different screen sizes and different hardware availability. Hence, recently there has been a lot of work on developing different testing methods for Android applications in Computer Science fraternity. The model of Android attracts researchers because of its open source nature. It makes the whole research model more streamlined when the code for both, application and the platform are readily available to analyze. And hence, there has been a great deal of research in testing and static analysis of Android applications. A great deal of this research has been focused on the input test generation for Android applications. Hence, there are a several testing tools available now, which focus on automatic generation of test cases for Android applications. These tools differ with one another on the basis of their strategies and heuristics used for this generation of test cases. But there is still very little work done on the comparison of these testing tools and the strategies they use. Recently, some research work has been carried outiv in this regard that compared the performance of various available tools with respect to their respective code coverage, fault detection, ability to work on multiple platforms and their ease of use. It was done, by running these tools on a total of 60 real world Android applications. The results of this research showed that although effective, these strategies being used by the tools, also face limitations and hence, have room for improvement. The purpose of this thesis is to extend this research into a more specific and attribute-‐ oriented way. Attributes refer to the tasks that can be completed using the Android platform. It can be anything ranging from a basic system call for receiving an SMS to more complex tasks like sending the user to another application from the current one. The idea is to develop a benchmark for Android testing tools, which is based on the performance related to these attributes. This will allow the comparison of these tools with respect to these attributes. For example, if there is an application that plays some audio file, will the testing tool be able to generate a test input that will warrant the execution of this audio file? Using multiple applications using different attributes, it can be visualized that which testing tool is more useful for which kinds of attributes. In this thesis, it was decided that 9 attributes covering the basic nature of tasks, will be targeted for the assessment of three testing tools. Later this can be done for much more attributes to compare even more testing tools. The aim of this work is to show that this approach is effective and can be used on a much larger scale. One of the flagship features of this work, which also differentiates it with the previous work, is that the applications used, are all specially made for this research. The reason for doing that is to analyze just that specific attribute in isolation, which the application is focused on, and not allow the tool to get bottlenecked by something trivial, which is not the main attribute under testing. This means 9 applications, each focused on one specific attribute. The main contributions of this thesis are: A summary of the three existing testing tools and their respective techniques for automatic test input generation of Android Applications. • A detailed study of the usage of these testing tools using the 9 applications specially designed and developed for this study. • The analysis of the obtained results of the study carried out. And a comparison of the performance of the selected tools.

ABSTRACT. The growing use of Information and Communication Technologies in the educational field has made possible for new teaching ways to exist, thus making learning easier and better. One of the more influenced educational branches by this fact is languages, largely due to a global need to learn them and improve knowledge. Among all the languages that people wish to learn, one stands out above them, English. It is given, not only by its worldwide presence, but by its big scholar repercussion; that English is an essential requirement for higher education. This final degree project aims to improve the english level for those who have a hard time doing it. This project develops an educational accesible platform to the greatest number of students, not only through personal computers, but mainly through mobile devices like smartphones or tablets. To make a great use of it by students possible, it was necessary an application which could be used from any device regardless of the operative system. This teaching platform is formed by a quiz game in which students must answer correctly in order to get a final score which will place them in a ranking composed by other platform members. With this score system it is intended to give a gamification component in order to motivate students to keep playing and answering question tests. Also, in this platform, administration teachers will be able to monitor the students and watch their results.

ABSTRACT Day after day it appears the necessity of organizating activities among different people where taking decisions together becomes fundamental. The task of coordinating and creating an agreement among all the parts involved, turns to be really difficult and, as a matter of fact, one of the main problems to cope with is finding a solution which fits to all the participants. In this context appears the idea of DealtDay, an application conceived to organize a group of people in an easy and intuitive way when doing any kind of activity, such as deciding a date for a meeting, choosing a restaurant, a place to have dinner or a film to be watched. DealtDay is an application developed for Android, iOS and web navigators. The selection of these technologies is due to the fact that they allows the application accessibility to users from the most used and common technological devices (personal computers, tablets and mobiles). The functioning of the application is possible thanks to an API REST development that allows the communication between any kind of application and a server through requests made by the HTTP protocol.

ABSTRACT. This project is assigned to the research line on consumption optimization in mobile multimedia terminals carried out by the Group of Electronic Design and Microelectronics (GDEM) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Embedded mobile systems (smartphones, tablets...) are powered by batteries. In such systems, one of the applications that more rapidly consumes power is the decoding of video streams. In this work, we measure the power consumption of different video decoders for different streams, in order to better understand how this energy is consumed and to find different methods to reduce it. To this end, we start by describing our working environment, both hardware and software used. As for the hardware, it is worth mentioning the use of PandaBoard and Smart Power Odroid, among many other elements, which will be duly explained in the following pages of this project. As for the software, we highlight the use of two types of decoders, CBP and PHP, which will be described in detail in the following chapters of this document. This working environment will help us to study different video streams, whose coding has been perfor-med in parallel under another project that is being carried out in the GDEM group of the UPM, and whose objective is the study of subjective quality for decoding the same set of video streams. All these video streams have been encoded with different quality parameters and image structures in order to obtain the widest set of samples. Thanks to the production of these video streams and the use of our working environment, we study the power consumption that occurs when decoding one by one all possible video streams, depending on the image structure, their quality and, of course, the decoder used in each case. Finally, we show a comparison between the different results and a discussion of these, obtaining a sum-mary of the most significant data and the main conclusions obtained during this project. Upon completion of this project and in conjunction with the project on the study of subjective quality that is being carried out in parallel, a future line of research could consist in finding the compromise between power consumption of different video streams and the subjective quality of these.

ABSTRACT: We are surounded by technologies. As computers, tablets and smartphones have arisen, our society has chaned, making use of these new technological devices in teaching area. Videogames use arises as a new way of learning, so it complements the traditional methods of teaching. The main aim of serious videogames, in contrast to videogames which people usually buy in any store, is training instead of entertaining. Recreation is on a secondary plane. Serious games aren’t only designed for education but also for other institutions such as the army (to train the troops) and hospitals (as a rehabilitation method). Videogames development can be done by an individual on group of people if they have a bascis knowledge of programming. This is posible due to graphic motors have a lot of aids in the present. This project tries to make a tutorial that makes the design and development of serious games easier. A platform videogame in advance 2D has been made for the development of this tutorial.

En la parte final de este documento se presentan los resultados de las encuestas y se muestran las conclusiones y trabajo futuro.---ABSTRACT---Currently there are several devices that accept gestures on touch surfaces like phones, tablets, computers, etc. to which people quickly become accustomed to their use and accept them as necessary tools in their life. Similarly there are some applications that handle 3D environments and like televisions, holograms and allow capture gestures made with hands, body, and head. These techniques have been developed on a separated way but based on some research we may say that the are not many studies that combine touch with 3D applications handled by gestures in the air. This paper presents a prototype of the interaction of two issues of a 2D showing documents represented by spheres on a touch application developed in Unity that works on Android and allows communicating with the second application also developed in Unity that handles a 3D environment interaction of gestures made in air. After some attempts interaction was achieved by implementing communication sockets between the application on the Android device and 3D application that is hosted on a computer with windows 7, and gestures capturing in the air is done by the system Tracking Tools developed by the Optitrack company it captures movements with infrared cameras and markers on the fingers, which sends data to this application gestures, these equipment are owned by the Decoroso Crespo laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Once achieved the interaction of applications has been conducted performance tests with ten students of the university master of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, each has answered a series of surveys to get results on how usable is the prototype, the user experience and that improvements could be made on this.

Aggregation of proteins, even under conditions favoring the native state, is a ubiquitous problem in biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Providing a mechanistic basis for the pathways that lead to aggregation should allow development of rational approaches for its prevention. We have chosen recombinant human interferon-γ (rhIFN-γ) as a model protein for a mechanistic study of aggregation. In the presence of 0.9 M guanidinium hydrochloride, rhIFN-γ aggregates with first order kinetics, a process that is inhibited by addition of sucrose. We describe a pathway that accounts for both the observed first-order aggregation of rhIFN-γ and the effect of sucrose. In this pathway, aggregation proceeds through a transient expansion of the native state. Sucrose shifts the equilibrium within the ensemble of rhIFN-γ native conformations to favor the most compact native species over more expanded ones, thus stabilizing rhIFN-γ against aggregation. This phenomenon is attributed to the preferential exclusion of sucrose from the protein surface. In addition, kinetic analysis combined with solution thermodynamics shows that only a small (9%) expansion surface area is needed to form the transient native state that precedes aggregation. The approaches used here link thermodynamics and aggregation kinetics to provide a powerful tool for understanding both the pathway of protein aggregation and the rational use of excipients to inhibit the process.

The progress toward single-dose vaccines has been limited by the poor solid-state stability of vaccine antigens within controlled-release polymers, such as poly(lactide-co-glycolide). For example, herein we report that lyophilized tetanus toxoid aggregates during incubation at 37 degrees C and elevated humidity--i.e., conditions relevant to its release from such systems. The mechanism and extent of this aggregation are dependent on the moisture level in the solid protein, with maximum aggregation observed at intermediate moisture contents. The main aggregation pathway is consistent with formaldehyde-mediated cross-linking, where reactive electrophiles created and stored in the vaccine upon formalinization (exposure to formaldehyde during vaccine preparation) react with nucleophiles of a second vaccine molecule to form intermolecular cross-links. This process is inhibited by the following: (i) succinylating the vaccine to block reactive amino groups; (ii) treating the vaccine with sodium cyanoborohydride, which presumably reduces Schiff bases and some other electrophiles created upon formalinization; and (iii) addition of low-molecular-weight excipients, particularly sorbitol. The moisture-induced aggregation of another formalinized vaccine, diphtheria toxoid, is also retarded by succinylation, suggesting the generality of this mechanism for formalinized vaccines. Hence, mechanistic stability studies of the type described herein may be important for the development of effective single-dose vaccines.
