This booklet is part of the Bridge Plan Reading Course developed by the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering of Iowa State University under contract with the Highway Research Advisory Board, Project HR-324. It is intended to be an instructional tool for Iowa DOT and county and municipal employees within the state of Iowa. The questions in this booklet are designed to test your knowledge of the material in the Bridge Plan Reading Course. You are free to use both the plans and the text material to assist you in answering these questions. There is a separate ANSWER BOOKLET which contains the answers to these questions. Consult that booklet to make sure you have answered these questions correctly. If you miss the answer to a question, go back and review the text material and the plans to make sure you understand the correct answer.

Motor Grader Operator Maintenance of Granular Surfaced Roads : Tips from Iowa Operators, 1991

This booklet is a compilation of notes taken during motor grader operators workshops held at some 20 different locations throughout Iowa during the last two years. It is also the advice of 16 experienced motor grader operators and maintenance foremen (from 14 different counties around Iowa), who serve as instructors and assistant instructors at the "MoGo" workshops. The instructors have all said that they learn as much from the operators who attend the workshops as they impart. Motor grader operators from throughout Iowa have shown us new, innovative and better ways of maintaining gravel roads. This booklet is an attempt to pass on some of these "tips" that we have gathered from Iowa operators. It will need to be revised, corrected, and added to based on the advice we get from you, the operators who do the work here in Iowa.

Inclusion and empowerment in public art and urban design

To involve citizens in developing the processes of city making is an objective that occupies part of the agenda of political parties in the context of the necessary renewal in representative democracy. This paper aims to provide some answers to the following questions: Is it possible to overcome the participatory processes based exclusively on the consultation? Is it possible to"train" residents to take an active role in decision-making? How can we manage, proactively, the relationship between public actors, technicians and politicians, in a participatory process? We analyse the process development for creating the Wall of Remembrance in the Barcelona neighbourhood of Baró de Viver, a work of public art, created and produced by its neighbours, in the context of a long participatory process focused on changing the image of the neighbourhood and the improvement of public space. This result and this process have been possible in a given context of cooperation among neighbours, local government and the research team (CR-Polis, Art, City, Society at the University of Barcelona). The development of a creative process of citizen participation between 2004 and 2011 made possible the direct management of decision making by the residents on the field of the design of public space in the neighbourhood. However, the material results of the process does not overshadow the great achievement of the project: the inclusion of a neighbourhood in taking informed decisions because of their empowerment in public space design and management of their remembrances.

De l'intérêt de parler un même langage afin d'atteindre la reconnaissance des soins infirmiers dans les programmes d'amélioration de la qualité des soins

Dans cette note rédigée à la demande du SIDIIEF, nous tentons de donner un avis argumenté sur des points clés qui nous semblent parmi les plus importants pour améliorer la prise en compte de soins infirmiers dans les processus décisionnels des politiques portant sur la qualité des soins.

Projecte d'un centre de repoblació de 30.000 postlarves anulas de llamà ntols del Mediterrani (Homarus gammarus) a "Sa Caleta de Binillautí" situada a Menorca (Illes Balears)

Aquest Projecte Fi de Carrera consisteix en l’elaboració d’un projecte per poder realitzar la implantació d’un centre de repoblació de llamàntols del mediterrani i contribuir en el restabliment de l’equilibri de crustacis marins a la costa de Menorca. El centre de repoblació s’ubica en una piscifartoria de cria de llobarros i aurades actualment tancada a ‘Sa Caleta de Binillautí’ de Menorca. Es realitza la reforma pertinent de les instal·lacions i edificacions existent per adaptar-les al cultiu del llamàntol. El procés aqüícola consisteix en agafar llamàntols femella gràvides del medi, els ous s’eclosionen i s’obtenen les larves de llamàntol en condicions controlades. D’aquesta manera s’augmenta la taxa de supervivència de les larves. Aquestes es preengreixen en el viver i s’obtenen les postlarves d’últim estadi aptes per engreixar-les en les muscleres del port de Maó. Finalment aquestes postlarves o juvenils serveixen per repoblar la costa del mar de Menorca. Ha estat indispensable l’elaboració d’una memòria, uns annexes relacionats amb la memòria, el plec de condicions, uns plànols i un pressupost. Dins del projecte s’ha de destacar la importància de les particularitats del cultiu del llamàntol, les instal·lacions de subministrament d’aigua marina i l’estudi de viabilitat realitzat.
