INTRODUCCIÓ: Lesions per trànsit (LT), evitables i problema de salut publica. Àmbit d’atenció primària (AP) lloc on investigar i actuar. Possible relació entre malalties cròniques del conductor i LT. MÈTODES: estudi descriptiu, transversal i multicèntric, conductors amb història clínica, Barcelona, 2009. 1900 enquestes personals, mostreig consecutiu. Variables sociodemogràfiques, sobre conducció i salut. RESULTATS: 57,3% homes, 8,5% conductors professionals, 12,5% havia patit una LT, 6% va precisar ajuda mèdica. 51,5% malalts crònics, predominant malalties cardiovasculars i limitacions visuals. CONCLUSIONS: No van trobar relacions significatives entre malalties cròniques i LT. Limitacions:imperfecció dels sistemes de registre, fiabilitat feble de dades autodeclarades, presencia de possibles factors de confusió.

La presència paterna com una intervenció no farmacològica per a reduïr l’estrés i millorar la cooperació infantil durant la inducció anestèsica ha estat freqüentment estudiada, sobretot als països anglosaxons, amb resultats contradictoris. L’objectiu del present estudi és avaluar la qualitat de la inducció anestèsica i del postoperatori segons la presència paterna o no a la mateixa en xiquets espanyols, ASA I-II, no premedicats, programats per a cirurgía otorrinolaringológica. Hem trobat un increment de la incidència d’inducció suau i una disminució de la inducció traumàtica al grup de xiquets amb presència paterna (p&0.05).

EHLASS provides a harmonised approach throughout the EU to facilitate the analyses of intercountry differences in modes and distributions of home and leisure accidents. EHLASS contributes to the formulation of EU policies and initiatives on accidents and product safety. EHLASS is the only source of detailed information on home and leisure accidents in Ireland. Some general information is available through the Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (HIPE) system but this concentrates on medical diagnoses rather than on specific causes of accidents.This report is the eleventh national EHLASS report for Ireland. The EHLASS survey was set up in April 1986 as a five-year demonstration project. The objective was to monitor home and leisure accidents in a harmonised manner, throughout the EU, to determine their causes, the circumstances of their occurrence, their consequences and, most importantly, to provide information on consumer products involved. Armed with accurate information, it was felt that consumer policy could be directed at the most serious problems andthe best use could be made of available resources.   Data collection systems were set up for the collection of EHLASS data in the casualty departments of selected hospitals in each of the member states. The information was subsequently gathered together by the European Commission in Brussels. Extensive analysis was undertaken on 778,838 accidents reported throughout the EU. Centralised analysis of EHLASS data proved problematic due to lack of  co-ordination in data quality. In 1989 it was decided that each member state should  produce its own annual EHLASS report in a harmonised format specified by the European Commission. La sospita de bacterièmia relacionada a catèter (BRC) necessita la retirada d’aquest, confirmant-se a posteriori només en un 15-25%. La diferencia en el temps de positivització d´ hemocultius (DTP) ha demostrat ser un mètode fiable per el diagnòstic de BRC evitant la retirada del catèter. Amb la intenció de comprovar la utilitat clínica de la DTP, l’hem comparada amb un mètode diagnòstic estàndard. Hem inclòs 133 pacients ingressats a una unitat de cures intensives portadors de catèters venosos centrals. 56 pacients s’han aleatoritzats. No hem trobat diferències significatives en quant a morbi-mortalitat en els 2 grups havent evitat 70% de retirada innecessària de catèters en el grup de DTP.

Antecedents. Cada cop són més els nens i nenes adoptats internacionalment que creixen en la nostra societat, i el seu ajust psicosocial s’ha convertit en un assumpte d’especial interès i rellevància. Objectius. Estudiar l'ajust psicosocial i la vivència de l'adopció en els infants adoptats internacionalment. Els objectius específics són: 1) estudiar els nivells d’adaptació personal i social en nens i nenes adoptats/des internacionalment, en comparació amb els estàndards de la població normativa; 2) estudiar la vivència de l’adopció en nens i nenes adoptats internacionalment i la percepció que mares i pares en tenen al respecte; 3) analitzar el paper de las variables estrés i estratègies d’afrontament en l’ajust psicosocial dels infants adoptats. Material i Mètode. La mostra està formada per 103 infants adoptats a l’estranger, d’entre 8 i 12 anys, i els seus respectius pares i mares. Els participants completaren les següents proves: BASC (Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC; Reynolds & Kamphaus, 1992), Qüestionari de punts forts i febles (SDQ; Goodman, 1997, 1999), Escala de la vivència adoptiva (Reinoso, 2008), Kidcope (Spirito, Stara y Williams, 1988). En realitzen anàlisis estadístics de tipus descriptiu, comparatiu, correlacional i exploratori. Resultats. La majoria dels menors adoptats internacionalment presenta bons nivells de funcionament, si bé un 25% d’ells presenta dificultats adaptatives bàsiques. En general s’observa un elevat nivell de convergència en la visió de l’experiència adoptiva entre nens/es i mares i pares. Els infants puntuen més alt en identitat cultural i més baix en discriminació percebuda que els seus pares/mares. Principalment esmenten problemes interpersonals de relació i de salut, malalties i accidents i utilitzen predominantment estratègies d’afrontament aproximatives. Els estressors vinculats amb l’experiència adoptiva són escassament mencionats. Conclusions. L’especificitat de la condició adoptiva requereix d’intervencions ajustades a la realitat d’aquests les necessitats d’aquests nens i les seves families.

Es tracta de un estudi observacional longitudinal durant 2 anys naturals (07/2004 - 06/2006) i multicèntric (4 centres d’atenció primària) on es van monitoritzar i comparar les incidències de varicel.la registrades en les diferents poblacions ateses segons una classificació basada en el seu origen biogeogràfic. Les taxes d’incidència obtingudes, estandaritzades x 1000/any van ser, en ordre creixent: holoàrtics 2,17 (IC 95%: 1,95-2,39); autòctons 2,25 (IC 95%: 2,02-2,47); immigrants 3,59 (IC 95%: 2,92-4,26); neotropicals 4,50 (IC 95%: 3,28-5,71); no-holoàrtics 5,38 (IC 95%4,27-6,14); paleotropicals asiàtics 7,03 (IC 95%: 4,77-9,28) i paleotropicals etiòpics 7,05 (IC 95%: 1,12-23,58). Les diferències obtingudes en relació a la població autòctona es van centrar en los immigrants d’origen neotropical (raó d’incidència estandaritzada = 2,07; o un excés de 4,5 casos x 1000 habitants) i paleotropical asiàtica =3,24; o un excés de 9,6 casos x 1000 habitants) En conclusió, la població d’origen indostànic i, en menor grau, la d’origen sud-americà poden tenir una vulnerabilitat a la varicel.la superior al de la població autòctona.

Reducing comparative optimism regarding risk perceptions in traffic accidents has been proven to be particularly difficult (Delhomme, 2000). This is unfortunate because comparative optimism is assumed to impede preventive action. The present study tested whether a road safety training course could reduce drivers' comparative optimism in high control situations. Results show that the training course efficiently reduced comparative optimism in high control, but not in low control situations. Mechanisms underlying this finding and implications for the design of road safety training courses are discussed.

PURPOSE: To assess violent death rates and trends between 1969 and 1997 among young people aged 10-24 years old in Switzerland. METHODS: Total causes of death, all external causes of injuries, traffic injuries, suicides and overdoses were retrieved from the databank of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (SFSO), using the eighth and tenth revisions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Mortality rates per 100,000 individuals were computed by gender and by age (10-14, 15-19, 20-24) using census records as denominators. RESULTS: In 1995-1997, violent deaths represented the primary cause of fatalities among young people. Rates of violent death were much higher among males than among females, with a ratio of 3.5:1 in 1995-1997 and also became increasingly elevated from the age range of 10-14 to 20-24 years (1.9:1-4.4:1). In 1995-1997, violent deaths accounted for 66% (n = 1221) of all fatalities among young people. Among violent deaths, 36% were due to traffic injuries, 13% to other types of injuries, 32% to suicide, 15% to overdoses, 3% to homicides and 1% to undetermined intent. Between 1969 and 1997, rates of traffic injuries decreased in both genders and in the three age groups considered, while rates of suicide remained stable and rates of overdoses stabilised during the nineties after a sharp increase during the eighties. CONCLUSION: Although violent deaths in Switzerland have become significantly less frequent over the last 30 years, they still represent the single greatest cause of fatalities among young people and, as such, constitute a major public health challenge.

In our society, accidents constitute a major public health problem, especially among youth. The objective of this paper was to describe the incidence of nonfatal injuries that required medical care among 16 to 20 year-old in Switzerland, its distribution by type of injury and whether there were differences by gender or by academic track and whether these injuries had sequels (hospitalisation, physical and psychological sequels). Overall, 28.3% of the sample reported at least one accident needing medical care in the previous 12 months, with males having more accidents than females and apprentices more than students. By type of accident, sports were the most frequently reported, followed by traffic, leisure time and work accidents. Half of males and one-third of females reported more than one accident, and 16% and 8% of them, respectively, reported four or more. Both physical and psychological sequels were more frequent among females, while hospitalisation was more frequent among males. Accident prevalence rates remain high among adolescents. Safety counselling and environmental measures need to be implemented.

As 'fresher's week' commences, the Public Health Agency is encouraging students across Northern Ireland to avoid binge drinking and to know their limits if they do choose to drink alcohol.Enjoying new freedoms, at college or university, means taking care of yourself and others and, if you choose to drink, staying within safe alcohol limits. Owen O'Neill, PHA Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement Manager for drugs and alcohol, said: "Some young people may drink more when they leave home, or join their friends in college or university for the first time. They might think that, as young people, they don't have to take care with alcohol, but staying within the safe drinking limits is important for everyone who drinks. Excessive and binge drinking can have lasting effects on health, such as damage to the liver, heart, brain and stomach. Drinking too much can also increase the risk of accidents and antisocial behaviour as well as sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancy"."We would also strongly advise against drinking games. Although they are regarded as a 'bit of fun', in reality they can be very dangerous. As an extreme form of binge drinking, where large quantities of alcohol are consumed in a very short time, drinking games can result in alcohol poisoning, leading to brain damage, coma or death. The PHA encourages students to enjoy their new student life, but urges them to be aware of their alcohol intake and drink responsibly, especially throughout fresher's week, with the many cheap drink promotions currently available."Daily alcohol limits are recommended by the government in order to avoid the risks of excessive and binge drinking in any one session.
