The indices found are analysed as a whole and general conclusions are drawn from them which may be of use in understanding many of the problems offered by the local flora (Ilhéus). The first column of the tables presented indicates the biological form of the species, showing the nature of the flora and the constitution of the climax. A total of 200 species of phanerophyta were found; 69 macrophanerophyta (trees), 54 are mesophanerophyta (treelets) and 77 are nanophanerophyta (shrubs). The macrophanerophyta are consequently considered as dominants and the meso-and nanophanerophyta as codominants (the biological forms: chamaephyta, hemicriptophyta, criptophyta, geophyta, therophyta, epiphyta and hydrophyta are subdominants), the more so as the first cover 80% and the others more or less 50%. This points to a climax of trees and a local vegetation mainly composed of trees also. The smaller forms are left out as they are beyond the present scope of this sort of wort in Brazil. The third column of ecological formulae indicates the reaction of the constituent species to light (C = sciophilous, F = photophilous and I = indifferents), the biological types of vegetation (H = hygrophytes, X = xerophytes and M = mesophytes) and the fidelity of the species to the climax. Of the species studied: 25 are pioneers (P. Table I), 63 are accidentals (A. Table II), 35 are companion species (O. Table III), 19 show preferences (E. Table with vitality Vn), 44 are selective (S. Table V) and 13 exclusive species (L. Table VI). This leads to the conclusion that the vegetation of the region is in full reconstitution. As to the ecological characteristics of the 200 species studied, 89 are either pioneers (a class separated by the author) or accidentals; this means that the devastated zones are being reconstituted in the subsere both with members of the prisere and alien species. Of the remaining species, 54 are companion, or accompanying species, which appear in most subclimax, serclímax and quasiclimax associations, and 57 are real constituents of the local climax. As all the species except the pioneers, selectives and exclusives (xerophytes and mesophytes) may be considered as hygrophytes this type evidently predominantes in the region and may constitute a hygrophilous serclimax and quasiclímax. In regard to light 101 are sciophilous, 32 indiferents and 67 photophilous. This leads to the conclusion that the vegetation comprises mainly tolerant species, showing the hygrophilous and mesophilous character of the region with a vegetation composed mostly of trees. The presence a large number of sciophilous species is easy to understand as the hygrophilous and mesophilous habitats and the dominance of trees favour the germination and growth of tolerant species. The last two columns analyse the percentage of individuals present and the occurrent classes to which they belong: 92 species vary between 1 and 9%; 50 between to 10 and 19%; 36 between 20 and 29%; 14 between 30 and 39%; and 8 between 40 and 49%. Only 8 species belong to occurrence class V; 14 to classe IV; 36 to class III; 50 to class II; and 92 to class I. This leads to the conclusion that the local formation is very unsociable and very complex, though the median coverture is 80% and the number of species is very large. The analysis of the data also shows that the climax is being reconstituted in the subsere with elements drawn from the prisere and alien species introduced either by man (following desvastation) or by other consequent factors (such as brusque changes of microclimates due to total or partial destruction). This modifies the subclimax appreciably and apparently also the climax of the local regional subsere. As a final conclusion it is suggested that as in the subsere the pioneer formation is xerophilous, the prisere also beging as a xerosere; but as there are and probably always were hydrophilous formation evolving in the same climate, the local climax is composed of species with medium exactions, that is of relative mesophites.

1) Depois de 2 anos de observação após o tratamento com penicilina em doses baixas, verificou-e que de 30 pacientes tratados com lesões boubáticas primo-secundárias, 13 mantinham-se curados clínica e sorològicamente. Quatro pacientes continuavam com cura clínica, mas com R. Wa. positiva. Os 13 doentes acima citados ofereceram as seguintes médias: Média das idades [...] 9 anos. Média da duração do tratamento [...] 30 dias. Média das doses totais de penicilina [...] 45.000 unidades. Média dos intervalos da injeções [...] 6/6 horas. Entretanto, doses variando de 72.000 a 200.000 unidades, em tratamento de 1 a 4 dias fracassaram. A distribuição dos 30 tratados segundo a duração do tratamento, mostra que os resultados mais favoráveis foram obtidos com os tratamento mais longos. A distribuição segundo a dose, demonstra o mesmo para aquelas compreendidas entre 21.000 e 50.000 unidades. A distribuição em grupos etários, revela o mesmo para aquele de 1 a 8 anos e finalmente a distribuição segundo a frequencia das injeções, indica o mesmo para o grupo de 8/8 a 12/12 horas. Êste último fato, justificou a abolição das aplicações noturnas. Os resultados mais favoráveis nas idades mais baixas, demonstraram, seja insuficiência das dosagens, seja u'a maior resistência ao tratamento por parte dos casos de mais longa duração. 2) Depois de 2 anos de observação após o tratamento com penicilina em doses baixas, de 6 pacientes com lesões boubáticas terciáras, 5 continuavam curados clínica e sorològicamente. O doente restante continuava com cura clínica, mas com R. Wa. positiva. Êste doente fôra superinoculado experimentalmente e não recebera tratamento em seguida, havendo probabilidade de a experiência ter concorrido para a permanência da sorologia positiva. A duração do tratamento variou de 1 mês e 27 dias a 8 meses e 22 dias e as doses totais de penicilina de 164.000 a 586.000 unidades. 3) Depois de 2 anos de observação após tratamento com néo-arsfenamina, de 4 boubáticos com lesões terciárias, apenas 2 continuavam curados clínica e sorològicamente. Os outros 2, não apresentavam sinais de doença mas continuavam com a R. Wa positiva. A duração do tratamento variou de 1 mês e 15 dias a 14 meses e a dosagem do medicamento de 2.10 grs. a 17.10 gr. 4) Depois de um ou dois anos de observação após o tratamento com penicilina isolada por via oral, 3 pacientes com lesões primo-secundárias, foram encontrados com recidiva clínica e sorológica. A duração do tratamento foi de 10 dias com a dosagem total de 100.000 unidade, os pacientes tendo 5, 8 e 10 anos respectivamente. Em quatro outros doentes, de 10 a 17 anos tratados durante 10 dias, com 150.000 unidades de penicilina associadas a citrato de sódio, os tratamentos foram considerados <

Enteric fevers and dysenteries showed, during the period 1940-44, a summer prevalence in brazilian cities of the temperate zone. The distribu¬tion of the diseases by four-months periods, selected in acordance with the highest of lowest values of rainfall, mean temperature and absolute humidity induced to suppose that, in those cities, and also in tropical ones, both enteric fevers and dysenteries were closely associated with such climatic factors: enteric fevers mainly with absolute humidity and temperature, and dysenteries with humidity and rainfall. Correlation coefficients, statistically significant, have been obtained comparing monthly waves of climatic factors and corresponding waves of prevalence of the diseases. For enteric fevers, clear associations have been disclosed: with temperature variations in all temperate cities (coefficients ranging from + 0.42 to + 0.75, higher with mean temperature in the previous month) and in two of the four tropical cities (from + 0.26 to ± 0.30); with absolute humidity variations in cities of the first group (from + 0.51 to 0.71) and in the tropical city of Rio ( + 0.26 ± 0.12 and + 0.28 ± 0.12); and also with rainfall variations but only in two temperate cities (from + 0.28 to + 0.64). For dysenteric diseases, in cities of temperate zone similar associations have been found with absolute humidity (values of r, ranging from + 0.32 to + 0.45), with temperature (from + 0.26 to + 0.44); and with rainfall only in Curitiba ( + 0.25 ± 0.12). Recife (tropical city) yielded two significant values : r = 0.27 ± 0.12 (correlation with mean temperature in the same month) and r = + 0.40 ± 0.11 and -h 0.37 ± 0.11 (between monthly morbidity rates and rainfall, respectively in the same month and in the previous one). Deaths by diarrhea and enteritis, in the cities of the temperate zone, prevailed in spring-summer seasons, also in four-months periods of highest temperature and humidity, for those cities and for the tropical ones, with the exception of Belem in which percentages were identical to those of opposite periods. Still with the exception of Belem, in all cities studied positive correla¬tion coefficients, statistically significant, have been obtained with temperature variations (ranging from + 0.25 to + 0.65 in tropical cities, and from + 0.47 to + 0.76 in temperate zone) and with humidity variations (from + 0.34 to + 0.44 in the first group, and from + 0.43 and + 0.74 in the second) . With rainfall, only Rio (in the tropical region) showed a significant value for r ( + 0.26 ±0:12); similarly in S. Paulo and Curitiba, the values ranged from + 0.46 to + 0.56, while in Porto Alegre there were found 0.26 ± 0.12 and 0.32 ± 012, for rainfall variations in the same and previous months.

O autor mostra que o Telenomus fariai Lima, microhimenópetero parasito endófago, pode, experimentalmente, desenvolver-se em ovos de Triatoma maculata, T. brasiliensis, T. vitticeps e T. rubrovaria. Faz considerações sôbre a observação dos ovos parasitados, ciclo evolutivo, número de microhimenópteros saídos por ovo e proporção entre os sexos do Telenomus fariai.
