Healthy immunoglobulin repertoire has not been extensively evaluated reflecting in part the challenge of generating sufficiently robust data sets by conventional clonal sequencing. Deep sequencing has revolutionized the capacity to evaluate the depth and breadth of the Ig repertoire along the B cell developmental pathway, and can be used to pin point defect(s) of primary or acquired B-cell associated diseases. The Spanish cadet in the European military context a comparative analysis of the professional socialisation

Research on the attitudes, motivations and social and political behavior of European cadets have been made throughout the last decade. Nowadays Spain also joins those surveys. Thru the analysis of polling data, we can consider the different attitudes of Spanish cadets in relation with the other European ones. The conclusion is that although the Spanish political transition to democracy has not ended already in the military teaching system, there are a lot of similarities among Spanish and European cadets.

Le Système partisan nationalitaire corse contemporain: étude d’un phénomène politique

Utilisée la terminologie « système partisan nationalitaire » pour désigner en totalité le champ politique qui recouvre les régionalistes, les autonomistes, les nationalistes et les indépendentistes, l’auteur étude le phénomène politique de la Corse d’aujourd’hui. Avec une claire conclusion global : le nationalisme corse contemporain a dépassé les limites du phénomène politique pour s’étendre sur la totalité de la vie politique et social insulaire. Aujourd’hui, il domine le monde syndical, l’économie et la domaine universitaire et scientifique.

Econometrics

This is a project to develop a document for teaching graduate econometrics that is "open source", specifically, licensed as GNU GPL. That is, anyone can access the document in editable form, and can modify it, as long as they make their modifications available. This allows for personalization, as well as a simple way to make contributions and error corrections. The hope is that people preparing to teach econometrics for the first time might find it useful, and eventually be motivated to contribute back to the project. The central document is something between a set of lecture notes and a text book. It's not as terse as lecture notes, but not as complete or well-referenced as a text book. Of course, the document is constantly evolving, and you are welcome to modify it as you like. The document contains (at least when viewed in HTML or PDF form) hyperlinks to example programs written using the GNU/Octave language. The document itself is written using the LyX word processor. LyX documents can be exported as LaTeX, so the system is quite portable.

The daily market for funds in Europe: what has changed with the EMU?

This paper presents evidence that the existence of deposit and lending facilities combined with an averaging provision for the reserve requirement are powerful tools to stabilize the overnight rate. We reach this conclusion by comparing the behavior of this rate in Germany before and after the start of the EMU. The analysis of the German experience is useful because it allows to isolate the effects on the overnight rate of these particular instruments of monetary policy. To show that this outcome is a general conclusion and not a particular result of the German market, we develop a theoretical model of reserve management which is able to reproduce our empirical findings.

Redistributive taxation with endogenous sentiments

We present a model in which an individual's sentiments towards others are determined endogenously on the basis of how they perform relative to the societal average. This, in turn, affects the individual's own behavior and hence other agents' sentiments toward her. We focus on stationary patterns of utility interdependence. To demonstrate the effects of such endogeneity, we consider an example of a production economy with redistributive taxation. There are two types of stationary equilibria: one in which all agents conform to the societal norm, into two or three groups. The main conclusion is that the tax structure, in that it affects behavior which in turn affects sentiments, plays a crucial role in determining which type of equilibrium occurs and its characteristics as well as the extent of altruism and social cohesion in society.

The possibility for continuous growth with exhaustible resources: unknowingly an agreement has been reached, but it may not be correct

It is the size of the elasticity of substitution that has been the central issue in the long debate over the possibility of continuous growth in the presence of exhaustible resources. This paper reviews the debate and comes to the surprising conclusion that , unnoticed by the pessimists, the optimist position has gradually evolved so that it now approximates that of the pessimists. The paper also summarises some preliminary work by the author that indicates that this common position may not be correct

Sport and multiculturalism: an European perspective

Opening conference of the academic course 2005/06 of the Olympic Studies Centre (CEO-UAB), given by Dr. Ian P. Henry, director of the Institute for Sport and Leisure Policy at Loughborough University (United Kingdom). The paper is structured around addressing three themes: how concepts of multiculturalism or interculturalism, nationality and citizenship can be linked to sports policy; how we can conceptualise (and therefore evaluate) the benefits which might be claimed to accrue from sporting projects in terms of multicultural or integration policy; and finally the issue of gender, multiculturalism and sports policy.
