It is know that endotoxin and various matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in the development of periapical lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and correlate the presence of endotoxins and MMP- 3, MMP-8 and MMP-9 in root canals of teeth with necrotic pulp and periapical lesion before, during and after the biomechanical preparation (PBM) using a combination of different irrigations solutions and intracanal dressing. Thirty-three single-root teeth with a diagnosis of pulp necrosis and periapical lesion radiographically visible were selected. Immediately after the coronal opening was collected the first sample from the root canal content. Then, all canals were prepared (cervical and middle thirds) by oscillatory instruments (EndoEze) and irrigated by 2.5% NaOCl. After, a manual preparation was made for the apical third and the teeth were divided into three groups according to the irrigation protocol: G1) 2.5% NaOCl (4 manual files); G2) 2.5% NaOCl (2 manual files) + [Ca (OH)2 0.14%] (2 manual files) and G3) 2.5% NaOCl (2 manual files) + polymyxin B (2 manual files). After the PBM, the second sample was collected; then the third collect was performed after using EDTA final flush. The fourth sample was collected 14 days after placing the dressing [2% chlorhexidine gel + Ca(OH)2]. Quantification of endotoxins was performed by a kinetic chromogenic lysate from amoebocytes of Limulus (LAL) and quantification of MMPs by ELISA assay. The results were analyzed statistically by Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's test (5%) and ordinal Spearman correlation. Presence of endotoxin was observed in 100% of cases and G3 showed the greatest reduction of endotoxins from the 1st to the 2nd samples (97%), being statistically similar to G2 (84.2%) and different from G1 (49.4%) (p<0.05). Objective: to evaluated the effect of treating root-adhered necrotic periodontal ligament (PDL) with citric acid on the healing process in delayed rat tooth replantation. Material and Methods: Forty Wistar rats, assigned to 4 groups (n=10), had their upper right incisor extracted and kept dry on a workbench. For Group I (control), the teeth were replanted after a 5 min extra-alveolar time. For the other groups, replantation was hydroxide-based paste and the teeth were replanted with no root surface treatment. In Group III, the teeth were immersed in citric acid (pH 1) for replanted. In Group IV, instead of the immersion, the roots were scrubbed with gauze soaked in citric acid and the teeth were replanted. The animals difference (p > 0.05) was found among the groups regarding the areas difference (p < 0.05) between the control group and Group IV regarding ankylosis. The control group showed the least replacement resorption percent means compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). The root structure was more affected by replacement resorption and ankylosis in Group IV statistically (p > 0.05). Conclusion: the treatment of root surface-adhered necrotic periodontal ligament with citric acid was not able to prevent the delayed rat tooth replantation.

Objective: to evaluated the effect of treating root-adhered necrotic periodontal ligament (PDL) with citric acid on the healing process in delayed rat tooth replantation. In Group II, the root canals were filled with a calcium hydroxide-based paste and the teeth were replanted with no root surface treatment. In Group III, the teeth were immersed in citric acid (pH 1) for 3 min, the canals were filled with calcium hydroxide and the teeth were replanted. In Group IV, instead of the immersion, the roots were scrubbed with gauze soaked in citric acid and the teeth were replanted. The animals were sacrificed 60 days postoperatively. Results: Regarding replacement resorption, there was statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) between the control group and the other three groups. No statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) was found among the groups regarding the areas of inflammatory resorption. There was also a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) between the control group and Group IV regarding ankylosis. The control group showed the least replacement resorption percent means compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). The root structure was more affected by replacement resorption and ankylosis in Group IV compared to the Groups II and III, but this difference was not significant statistically (p > 0.05). Conclusion: the treatment of root surface-adhered necrotic periodontal ligament with citric acid was not able to prevent the occurrence of ankylosis, root resorption and inflammatory resorption in delayed rat tooth replantation.

Objetivo: o objetivo desse estudo in vivo foi avaliar a influência da infiltração coronária no reparo apical de dentes de cães que receberam curativo de demora com hidróxido de cálcio e foram mantidos, ou não, em contato com o meio bucal. Métodos: após o preparo biomecânico e preenchimento com pasta de hidróxido de cálcio, 26 canais foram divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos experimentais (Grupo 1 = selamento coronário com material restaurador temporário; Grupo 2 = não selados). Os animais foram sacrificados após 7 dias e os espécimes foram preparados para análise histológica. Resultados: em ambos os grupos, os resultados foram semelhantes, células inflamatórias não estavam presentes no tecido apical ou no cemento. Além disso, observou-se necrose na superfície do terço coronário do coto pulpar em contato com o hidróxido de cálcio, e microrganismos foram observados apenas em contato com resíduos que estavam presentes na câmara pulpar dos espécimes sem selamento, mas não no canal radicular. Conclusão: concluiu-se que o hidróxido de cálcio utilizado como curativo impediu a contaminação do canal radicular e manteve seu mecanismo de ação nos tecidos apicais, mesmo sem selamento coronário, por um período de 7 dias.

Introdução: paciente do sexo masculino, 37 anos de idade. Após a anamnese, foi constatado que o dente 11 apresentava abertura coronária e presença de hidróxido de cálcio com histórico de trauma dentário nesse dente. Radiograficamente, o dente 11 apresentava formação radicular incompleta, paredes dentinárias finas e frágeis, com divergência foraminal associada a imagem radiolúcida periapical. Objetivo: relatar um caso clínico de apicificação, realizado com trocas de curativo de hidróxido de cálcio. Métodos: o tratamento de escolha foi a apicificação, a qual teve início na segunda sessão, após 15 dias, por meio de desbridamento químico-mecânico de todo o canal radicular, com limas tipo K e irrigação com uma solução de hipoclorito de sódio a 2,5%. Em seguida, pasta de hidróxido de cálcio (hidróxido de cálcio, iodofórmio e propilenoglicol) foi aplicada e trocada de 15 em 15 dias, durante 4 meses. O exame radiográfico foi novamente realizado e demonstrou o fechamento completo da abertura foraminal e regressão da radiolucência periapical. O canal radicular foi obturado utilizando-se um cone confeccionado a partir da união de três cones #60 e pela técnica de condensação lateral com Sealapex. Resultados: seis meses após a obturação, exames revelaram tecidos periapicais normais e ausência de sintomas. Conclusão: concluiu-se que o tratamento do traumatismo dentário associado à necrose do tecido pulpar e à lesão periapical, com trocas sucessivas de pasta de hidróxido de cálcio, foi adequado para se obter a regressão da lesão periapical, formação de barreira mineralizada e promoção de saúde ao paciente.

Objetivo: a proposta desse estudo foi avaliar, por meio de microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV), a interface adesiva após a descolagem de acessórios ortodônticos, fixados em dentes bovinos com emprego de adesivo hidrofílico e hidrofóbico, em condições distintas de umidade do substrato dentário. Métodos: foram utilizados 20 incisivos inferiores, divididos em quatro grupos (n = 5): Grupo I , empregou-se o sistema de colagem contendo o primer hidrofílico Transbond MIP e a pasta adesiva Transbond XT, aplicados em substrato úmido; Grupo II, empregou-se o sistema de colagem primer hidrofóbico Transbond XT e pasta adesiva em substrato úmido; Grupos III e IV, os braquetes foram colados com os mesmos sistemas de união dos Grupos I e II, porém com esmalte dentário seco. Removidos os acessórios, avaliou-se em MEV, em diferentes magnificações, a interface adesiva e a interação dos sistemas adesivos com o esmalte dentário. As imagens foram avaliadas qualitativamente, observando-se o embricamento mecânico para o adesivo hidrófilo em quaisquer condições de substrato. Resultados: a falta de umidade no esmalte condicionado permitiu uma melhor interação entre os materiais de ligação e a estrutura adamantina. O adesivo hidrofóbico apresentou o pior resultado de interação micromecânica quando aplicado a uma estrutura dentária úmida; já o sistema hidrofílico mostrou-se versátil, obtendo resultados aceitáveis em condições de umidade e excelente interação na ausência de contaminação. Conclusão: os autores afirmam que a melhor condição do esmalte dentário para a aplicação de primers é com a ausência de umidade.

The study of antioxidant has a great interest to biochemistry and medicine, due to of used in the human body as inhibitor to free radical process, which can cause premature aging and degenerative diseases. Furthermore, antioxidant is widely used in food industry that i s used to prevent food deterioration, in fats and oils (autoxidation, known as rancidity). Thereby, the survey data labels of vegetable oils such as soybean one, corn one and sunflower one, it is very important, with this survey data label was possible to verify the antioxidants used on vegetable oils and describe their chemical structure, molecular formula, lethal dose and daily dose by review. Following this review, it was possible to create a website with in formation and description of antioxidants. This database has free access to the public, in order to help the population about these chemicals compounds, and help them to choose the more beneficial food to eat

Cassava leaves can be considered an important nutritional source when compared to other commonly consumed vegetables leaves. Cassava leaves have high levels of protein, fiber and minerals, and arestill underexplored due to the lack of information regarding the use of them as afood product, as well as, their use as an industrial raw material. The consumption of cassava leaves in fresh form is impractical due to the presence of cyanide, thereby it is required a pretreatment to be performed to reduce this component. The objective of this study was to produce and characterize the four made with cassava leaves as its chemical composition, color, indices of absorption and water solubility, and pasting properties, aiming to provide information of interest for possible application as an ingredient in the food industry. Cassava leaf flour showed low moisture content (6.6 %)and significant amounts of fiber (30.68 %), protein (23.00 %), and total carbohydrate (22.27%). Drying and milling processes allowed to obtain a flour with a low content of total cyanide (0.3 mg 100g-1 ), and the presence of vitamin C (56.6 mg 100g-1 ) and β –carotene (38 mg 100g- 1 ). The color analysis of cassava leaf flour showed low lightness with, predominantly, green and yellow pigments. The cassava leaf flour presented good solubility (14.85 %) and water absorption (6.87 g gel. g-1 ). Pasting properties showed a low peak of viscosity and a higher final viscosity with a retrogradation tendency, indicating a low capacity of this flour to form gel. The flour of cassava leaves can be a good source of nutrition when used as a food ingredient in soups and pasta. However, it is not indicated to products that require high gel formation.

The starch market has been growing and improving in recent years, leading to a search for products with specific characteristics that meet the industrial requirements. This work aimed to evaluate the centesimal composition of potato tubers cv Pirassu and its industrial potential. The potato cv Pirassu was cultivated in Pouso Alegre, mountainous region south of Minas Gerais state, with planting season in August and harvest season in November, 2011. The tubers were analyzed for color, pulp and centesimal composition. The starch extract was analyzed for centesimal composition, phosphorus content, apparent amylose, pasting properties and thermal properties. The results showed that the content of dry matter, total soluble sugar and starch of tubers, are compatible for processing for potato chips. The starch of this cultivate showed important viscosity characteristics for food industry such as: heat resistance and friction, good final viscosity and low granular organization.
