Im Snowboardsport spielen kommerzielle Akteure für die informelle Organisation und das Funktionieren der Sportart eine bedeutende Rolle. Der Sport wird meist unabhängig von Vereinen und Verbänden in lokalen Gruppen von Gleichgesinnten betrieben und besitzt im Gegensatz zu klassischen Sportarten eine alternative Organisationsstruktur. Die kommerziellen Akteure springen in diese Lücke und versuchen mit Wettbewerben, Showevents und Snowparks Treffpunkte und Inhalt für Szeneanhänger zu kreieren. Sie liefern ästhetisches Film- und Bildmaterial, sowie zugeschnittene Produkte, um Medienpräsenz zu erhalten und die Anzahl Interessierte zu steigern. Sie sehen sich als «Motoren der Sportart» und engagieren sich mit kommerziellem Hintergrund um die organisationale Entwicklung des Sports. Sie treten als Sponsoren auf, wobei sie Partnerschaften mit ausgewählten Akteuren innerhalb des Szenekerns bilden, welche eine hohe Glaubwürdigkeit bei den Szeneanhängern besitzen. Zusammen inszenieren sie Werte und Normen der Sportkultur und übermitteln diese mit szeneaffinen Medien. Dies führt zur These, dass durch das Sponsoring und Branding von Athleten sowie der Organisation von Wettbewerben und Showevents die kommerziellen Akteure einen direkten Einfluss auf die Genese der Sportart besitzen. Dabei interessiert die Art und Weise, wie die kommerziellen Akteure innerhalb der Snowboardzene Beziehungen knüpfen, Identitäten schaffen und einflussreiche Positionierungen einnehmen und wahren können. Aufbauend auf dem Szenemodell von Hitzler und Niederbacher (2010) wird mit einem Kern-Peripherie-Modell der Szenekern analysiert, wobei das soziale Wissen und die sozialen Kontakte die Positionierung bestimmen. Die Partnerschaften zwischen den Akteuren aus dem Szenekern haben eine hohe gemeinsame Identifikation und verfolgen gemeinsame strategische Ziele. Sie bilden ein soziales Netzwerk von Individuen, wobei die verschiedenen Beziehungen das Funktionieren der Organisationselite bestimmen. In der ethnographischen Studie wurden teilnehmende Beobachtung an zwei europäischen und drei neuseeländischen Events betrieben, welche nach der «Grounded Theory» von Glaser und Strauss (1967) ausgewertet wurden. Darauf aufbauend und vertiefend wurden über 40 Experteninterviews mit Szenekernakteuren aus elf Ländern zur Datengewinnung betrieben. Die teilstandardisierten Gespräche wurden mit der «Inhaltsanalyse» von Mayring (2010) ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die kommerziellen Akteure durch Sponsoring- und Brandingaktivitäten sowie Medienpräsenz die Entwicklung der Sportart prägen. Sie teilen ihr soziales Netzwerk mit ihren Partnern und ermöglichen den einzelnen Akteuren die Inklusion in einen selektiven und exklusiven Kreis von Akteuren, welches ihnen eine privilegierte Positionierung innerhalb der Szene garantiert. Der Image- und Wissenstransfer, welcher zwischen den Akteuren aufgebaut wird, stützen Ansehen, Authentizität und Glaubwürdigkeit der involvierten Akteure innerhalb der Szene. Die von den kommerziellen Akteuren unterstützte Athleten, Events und Resorts bekommen in szeneaffinen Medien Präsentationsplattformen, in welchen Produkte und Markenlogos inszeniert werden. Prestige, Status, soziale Kontakte sowie Zugang zu lukrativen und szenennahen Wettbewerben lassen die Akteure des Snowboardszenekerns mit den in der Szene respektierten kommerziellen Akteuren Partnerschaften bilden. Das Netzwerk und die Positionierung innerhalb des Szenekerns ermöglichen den kommerziellen Akteuren einen privilegierten Zugang zur Organisation des Snowboardsports. Stable oxygen isotope composition of atmospheric precipitation (δ18Op) was scrutinized from 39 stations distributed over Switzerland and its border zone. Monthly amount-weighted δ18Op values averaged over the 1995–2000 period showed the expected strong linear altitude dependence (−0.15 to −0.22‰ per 100 m) only during the summer season (May–September). Steeper gradients (~ −0.56 to −0.60‰ per 100 m) were observed for winter months over a low elevation belt, while hardly any altitudinal difference was seen for high elevation stations. This dichotomous pattern could be explained by the characteristically shallower vertical atmospheric mixing height during winter season and provides empirical evidence for recently simulated effects of stratified atmospheric flow on orographic precipitation isotopic ratios. This helps explain "anomalous" deflected altitudinal water isotope profiles reported from many other high relief regions. Grids and isotope distribution maps of the monthly δ18Op have been calculated over the study region for 1995–1996. The adopted interpolation method took into account both the variable mixing heights and the seasonal difference in the isotopic lapse rate and combined them with residual kriging. The presented data set allows a point estimation of δ18Op with monthly resolution. According to the test calculations executed on subsets, this biannual data set can be extended back to 1992 with maintained fidelity and, with a reduced station subset, even back to 1983 at the expense of faded reliability of the derived δ18Op estimates, mainly in the eastern part of Switzerland. Before 1983, reliable results can only be expected for the Swiss Plateau since important stations representing eastern and south-western Switzerland were not yet in operation.

BACKGROUND & Aims: Standardized instruments are needed to assess the activity of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), to provide endpoints for clinical trials and observational studies. We aimed to develop and validate a patient-reported outcome (PRO) instrument and score, based on items that could account for variations in patients' assessments of disease severity. We also evaluated relationships between patients' assessment of disease severity and EoE-associated endoscopic, histologic, and laboratory findings. METHODS We collected information from 186 patients with EoE in Switzerland and the US (69.4% male; median age, 43 years) via surveys (n = 135), focus groups (n = 27), and semi-structured interviews (n = 24). Items were generated for the instruments to assess biologic activity based on physician input. Linear regression was used to quantify the extent to which variations in patient-reported disease characteristics could account for variations in patients' assessment of EoE severity. The PRO instrument was prospectively used in 153 adult patients with EoE (72.5% male; median age, 38 years), and validated in an independent group of 120 patients with EoE (60.8% male; median age, 40.5 years). RESULTS Seven PRO factors that are used to assess characteristics of dysphagia, behavioral adaptations to living with dysphagia, and pain while swallowing accounted for 67% of the variation in patients' assessment of disease severity. Based on statistical consideration and patient input, a 7-day recall period was selected. Highly active EoE, based on endoscopic and histologic findings, was associated with an increase in patient-assessed disease severity. In the validation study, the mean difference between patient assessment of EoE severity and PRO score was 0.13 (on a scale from 0 to 10). CONCLUSIONS We developed and validated an EoE scoring system based on 7 PRO items that assesses symptoms over a 7-day recall period. Clinicaltrials.gov number: NCT00939263.

The aim of this study was to analyse the effects of climatic factors (i.e. monthly mean temperature and total precipitation) on radial growth (earlywood width, latewood width, and total ringwidth) and on latewood stable carbon isotope composition in a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L) stand in northeastern Hungary. Earlywood widths showed the weakest common variance and lack of statistically significant relationship to monthly precipitation and temperature. Latewood width showed the strongest common chronological signal. Correlation analysis with the monthly climate series pointed out the strongest positive/negative correlation with June precipitation for latewood width/stable carbon isotope ratio. These parameters shared the strongest climatic response also for seasonal scale since the highest correlation coefficients, 0.49 and -0.62 for latewood width and stable carbon isotope ratio, respectively, were obtained for both with a 10-month precipitation total (from previous November to current August of the growing season). A combined parameter, derived as difference between latewood width and stable carbon isotope indices showed improved statistical relationship compared to the hydroclimatic calibration target both for local and regional spatial scales. Spatial correlation analysis indicated that the hydroclimatic signal encoded in these moisture sensitive tree-ring parameters from Bakta Forest is expected to be representative for the northeastern Carpathians and for the large part of the Great Hungarian Plain. In addition, the hydroclimatic signal of latewood width chronology was compared to three independent records. Results showed that neither the strength nor the rank of the similarity of the local hydroclimate signals were stable throughout the past two centuries. Future palaeo(hydro)climatological efforts targeting the Carpathian(-Balkan) region are recommended to track carefully the spatial domains for which a given, local, proxy-derived hydroclimate reconstruction might provide useful information.

This study provides a continuous lateglacial and Holocene record of diatom silica oxygen isotope changes (delta O-18(DIAT)) in a subalpine lake sediment sequence obtained from the Retezat Mts (Taul dintre Brazi, 1740 m a.s.l.). This through-flow, shallow, high-altitude lake with a surface area of only 0.4 ha has short water residence time and is predominantly fed by snowmelt and rainwater. Its delta O-18(DIAT) record principally reflects the oxygen isotope composition of the winter and spring precipitation, as diatom blooms occur mainly in the spring and early summer. Hence, changes in delta O-18(DIAT) are interpreted as seasonal scale changes: in the amount of winter precipitation. Low oxygen isotope values (27-28.5 parts per thousand) occurred during the lateglacial until 12,300 cal BP, followed by a sharp increase thereafter. In the Holocene delta O-18(DIAT) values ranged from 29 to 31 parts per thousand until 3200 cal BP, followed by generally lower values during the late Holocene (27-30 parts per thousand). Short-term decreases in the isotopic values were found between 10,140-9570, 9000-8500, 7800-7300, 6300-5800, 5500-5000 and at 8015, 4400, 4000 cal BP. After 3200 cal BP a decreasing trend was visible with the lowest values between 3100-2500 and after 2100 cal BP The general trend in the record suggests that contribution of winter precipitation was generally lower between 11,680 and 3200 cal BP, followed by increased contribution during the last millennia. The late Holocene decrease in delta O-18(DIAT) shows good agreement with the speleothem delta O-18, lake level and testate amoebae records from the Carpathian Mountains that also display gradual delta O-18 decrease and lake level/mire water table level rise after 3200 cal BR Strong positive correlation with North Atlantic circulation and solar activity proxies, such as the Austrian and Hungarian speleothem records, furthermore suggested that short-term increases in the isotopic ratios in the early and mid Holocene are likely connectable to high solar activity phases and high frequency of positive North Atlantic Oscillation indexes that may have resulted in decreased winter precipitation in this region.

Supramolecular assembly of π-conjugated systems is of large interested due to the possibility to use them in electronic devices.[1] Chrysene is a polyaromatic hydrocarbon which has been studied e.g for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).[2] In continuation of our previous work involving the supramolecular polymerisation of pyrene oligomers [3] an oligomer consisting of three chrysenes linked by phophodiesters was synthesised (Chry3). UV-Vis measurements show that aggregates of Chry3 are formed in aqueous medium. This is illustrated by general hypochromicity, a change in vibronic band intensities and, in particular, the appearance of a red-shifted absorption band in the S0 → S2 transition. The data suggest the formation of J-aggregates. The formation of supramolecular polymers is further studied by temperature-dependent absorption- and fluorescence measurements, and by atomic force microscopy (AFM).
