The present study gave emphasis on characterizing continuous probability distributions and its weighted versions in univariate set up. Therefore a possible work in this direction is to study the properties of weighted distributions for truncated random variables in discrete set up. The problem of extending the measures into higher dimensions as well as its weighted versions is yet to be examined. As the present study focused attention to length-biased models, the problem of studying the properties of weighted models with various other weight functions and their functional relationships is yet to be examined.

This thesis entitled Reliability Modelling and Analysis in Discrete time Some Concepts and Models Useful in the Analysis of discrete life time data. The present study consists of five chapters. In Chapter II we take up the derivation of some general results useful in reliability modelling that involves two component mixtures. Expression for the failure rate, mean residual life and second moment of residual life of the mixture distributions in terms of the corresponding quantities in the component distributions are investigated. Some applications of these results are also pointed out. The role of the geometric,Waring and negative hypergeometric distributions as models of life lengths in the discrete time domain has been discussed already. While describing various reliability characteristics, it was found that they can be often considered as a class. The applicability of these models in single populations naturally extends to the case of populations composed of sub-populations making mixtures of these distributions worth investigating. Accordingly the general properties, various reliability characteristics and characterizations of these models are discussed in chapter III. Inference of parameters in mixture distribution is usually a difficult problem because the mass function of the mixture is a linear function of the component masses that makes manipulation of the likelihood equations, leastsquare function etc and the resulting computations.very difficult. We show that one of our characterizations help in inferring the parameters of the geometric mixture without involving computational hazards. As mentioned in the review of results in the previous sections, partial moments were not studied extensively in literature especially in the case of discrete distributions. Chapters IV and V deal with descending and ascending partial factorial moments. Apart from studying their properties, we prove characterizations of distributions by functional forms of partial moments and establish recurrence relations between successive moments for some well known families. It is further demonstrated that partial moments are equally efficient and convenient compared to many of the conventional tools to resolve practical problems in reliability modelling and analysis. The study concludes by indicating some new problems that surfaced during the course of the present investigation which could be the subject for a future work in this area.

This thesis entitled Geometric algebra and einsteins electron: Deterministic field theories .The work in this thesis clarifies an important part of Koga’s theory.Koga also developed a theory of the electron incorporating its gravitational field, using his substitutes for Einstein’s equation. The third chapter deals with the application of geometric algebra to Koga’s approach of the Dirac equation. In chapter 4 we study some aspects of the work of mendel sachs (35,36,37,).Sachs stated aim is to show how quantum mechanics is a limiting case of a general relativistic unified field theory.Chapter 5 contains a critical study and comparison of the work of Koga and Sachs. In particular, we conclude that the incorporation of Mach’s principle is not necessary in Sachs’s treatment of the Dirac equation.

The present work is organized into six chapters. Bivariate extension of Burr system is the subject matter of Chapter II. The author proposes to introduce a general structure for the family in two dimensions and present some properties of such a system. Also in Chapter II some new distributions, which are bivariate extension of univariate distributions in Burr (1942) is presented.. In Chapter III, concentrates on characterization problems of different forms of bivariate Burr system. A detailed study of the distributional properties of each member of the Burr system has not been undertaken in literature. With this aim in mind in Chapter IV is discussed with two forms of bivariate Burr III distribution. In Chapter V the author Considers the type XII, type II and type IX distributions. Present work concludes with Chapter VI by pointing out the multivariate extension for Burr system. Also in this chapter the concept of multivariate reversed hazard rates as scalar and vector quantity is introduced.

Communication is the process of transmitting data across channel. Whenever data is transmitted across a channel, errors are likely to occur. Coding theory is a stream of science that deals with finding efficient ways to encode and decode data, so that any likely errors can be detected and corrected. There are many methods to achieve coding and decoding. One among them is Algebraic Geometric Codes that can be constructed from curves. Cryptography is the science ol‘ security of transmitting messages from a sender to a receiver. The objective is to encrypt message in such a way that an eavesdropper would not be able to read it. A eryptosystem is a set of algorithms for encrypting and decrypting for the purpose of the process of encryption and decryption. Public key eryptosystem such as RSA and DSS are traditionally being prel‘en‘ec| for the purpose of secure communication through the channel. llowever Elliptic Curve eryptosystem have become a viable altemative since they provide greater security and also because of their usage of key of smaller length compared to other existing crypto systems. Elliptic curve cryptography is based on group of points on an elliptic curve over a finite field. This thesis deals with Algebraic Geometric codes and their relation to Cryptography using elliptic curves. Here Goppa codes are used and the curves used are elliptic curve over a finite field. We are relating Algebraic Geometric code to Cryptography by developing a cryptographic algorithm, which includes the process of encryption and decryption of messages. We are making use of fundamental properties of Elliptic curve cryptography for generating the algorithm and is used here to relate both.

In this thesis the queueing-inventory models considered are analyzed as continuous time Markov chains in which we use the tools such as matrix analytic methods. We obtain the steady-state distributions of various queueing-inventory models in product form under the assumption that no customer joins the system when the inventory level is zero. This is despite the strong correlation between the number of customers joining the system and the inventory level during lead time. The resulting quasi-birth-anddeath (QBD) processes are solved explicitly by matrix geometric methods

Inthis paper,we define partial moments for a univariate continuous random variable. A recurrence relationship for the Pearson curve using the partial moments is established. The interrelationship between the partial moments and other reliability measures such as failure rate, mean residual life function are proved. We also prove some characterization theorems using the partial moments in the context of length biased models and equilibrium distributions

In this paper, we examine the relationships between log odds rate and various reliability measures such as hazard rate and reversed hazard rate in the context of repairable systems. We also prove characterization theorems for some families of distributions viz. Burr, Pearson and log exponential models. We discuss the properties and applications of log odds rate in weighted models. Further we extend the concept to the bivariate set up and study its properties.

The object of research presented here is Vessiot's theory of partial differential equations: for a given differential equation one constructs a distribution both tangential to the differential equation and contained within the contact distribution of the jet bundle. Then within it, one seeks n-dimensional subdistributions which are transversal to the base manifold, the integral distributions. These consist of integral elements, and these again shall be adapted so that they make a subdistribution which closes under the Lie-bracket. This then is called a flat Vessiot connection. Solutions to the differential equation may be regarded as integral manifolds of these distributions. In the first part of the thesis, I give a survey of the present state of the formal theory of partial differential equations: one regards differential equations as fibred submanifolds in a suitable jet bundle and considers formal integrability and the stronger notion of involutivity of differential equations for analyzing their solvability. An arbitrary system may (locally) be represented in reduced Cartan normal form. This leads to a natural description of its geometric symbol. The Vessiot distribution now can be split into the direct sum of the symbol and a horizontal complement (which is not unique). The n-dimensional subdistributions which close under the Lie bracket and are transversal to the base manifold are the sought tangential approximations for the solutions of the differential equation. It is now possible to show their existence by analyzing the structure equations. Vessiot's theory is now based on a rigorous foundation. Furthermore, the relation between Vessiot's approach and the crucial notions of the formal theory (like formal integrability and involutivity of differential equations) is clarified. The possible obstructions to involution of a differential equation are deduced explicitly. In the second part of the thesis it is shown that Vessiot's approach for the construction of the wanted distributions step by step succeeds if, and only if, the given system is involutive. Firstly, an existence theorem for integral distributions is proven. Then an existence theorem for flat Vessiot connections is shown. The differential-geometric structure of the basic systems is analyzed and simplified, as compared to those of other approaches, in particular the structure equations which are considered for the proofs of the existence theorems: here, they are a set of linear equations and an involutive system of differential equations. The definition of integral elements given here links Vessiot theory and the dual Cartan-Kähler theory of exterior systems. The analysis of the structure equations not only yields theoretical insight but also produces an algorithm which can be used to derive the coefficients of the vector fields, which span the integral distributions, explicitly. Therefore implementing the algorithm in the computer algebra system MuPAD now is possible.

This paper describes a simple method for internal camera calibration for computer vision. This method is based on tracking image features through a sequence of images while the camera undergoes pure rotation. The location of the features relative to the camera or to each other need not be known and therefore this method can be used both for laboratory calibration and for self calibration in autonomous robots working in unstructured environments. A second method of calibration is also presented. This method uses simple geometric objects such as spheres and straight lines to The camera parameters. Calibration is performed using both methods and the results compared.

The objects with which the hand interacts with may significantly change the dynamics of the arm. How does the brain adapt control of arm movements to this new dynamic? We show that adaptation is via composition of a model of the task's dynamics. By exploring generalization capabilities of this adaptation we infer some of the properties of the computational elements with which the brain formed this model: the elements have broad receptive fields and encode the learned dynamics as a map structured in an intrinsic coordinate system closely related to the geometry of the skeletomusculature. The low--level nature of these elements suggests that they may represent asset of primitives with which a movement is represented in the CNS.
