USO DE SISTEMAS DE INFORMACION GEOGRAFICA PARA ANALIZAR IMPACTOS DE ACTIVIDADES HUMANAS SOBRE EL HABITAT POTENCIAL DEL VENADO COLA BLANCA (odocoileus virginianus), GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA.

El presente trabajo se realizó en el distrito central del cantón de Bagaces, Guanacaste, Costa Rica y tiene como propósito evaluar el impacto de la II fase del proyecto de Riego Arenal-Tempisque en el hábitat potencial del venado cola blanca (odocoileus virginianus). Los resultados del estudio indican que la II etapa del Proyecto de Riego impactará 4.633 hectáreas del hábitat clasificado como alto para el venado. SUMMARY The aim of this paper is to discuss and illustrate the usefulness of the GIS in the evaluation of the impact of the II Phase of the Arenal-Tempisque irrigation project on the habitat of white-tailed deer. The study area is the central canton of Bagaces in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Once fully developed, the irrigation project will impact 4633 hectares of prime deer habitat.

DO SÉCULO XX AO III MILÊNIO: MISÉRIA E DEMOCRACIA NA GEOGRAFIA E NAS CIÊNCIAS HUMANAS BRASILEIRAS

Esta pesquisa apoiada numa heterogênea base metodológica tem como objetivo dissertar sobre a problemática brasileira “Fome x Democracia”. Inicialmente é citado as décadas de miséria desde o início do Século XX até o contexto da metade do século XX. Depois, aborda um pouco do debate multidisciplinar Brasileiro sobre o contexto da Ditadura Militar (1960 a 1985). Por sua vez, colocando um pouco mais das Pesquisas Multidisciplinares Brasileiras no início dos anos 1990, o presente texto, investiga também o “Impeachment” o Presidente Fernando Collor como uma verdadeira necessidade no sentido da construção de uma nação com menos miséria. Por fim, tenta compreender os conhecimentos brasileiros produzidos à luz do contexto sócio-econômico dos trabalhos desenvolvidos pela “Ação da Cidadania contra a Fome, a Miséria e pela vida”, bem como por aqueles elaborados a partir da implantação do “Bolsa-Família do Governo Lula, lembrando com clareza ética que “quem tem fome não pode esperar” e que esta “luta humanitária” deve ser continuada pela nova presidente Brasileira.

Intercâmbios acadêmicos internacionais: bolsas Capes, CNPq e Fapesp

This article is part of a study considering the growing importance of the international transit of people, knowledge, and practices in the schooling and professional education processes of some social segments. Considering the public funds made available by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - Capes -, the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq - and the State of São Paulo Research Foundation - Fapesp - to support researchers' fellowships abroad, aming to improve research and investments on Science and Technology on the context of international exchanges, we have dedicated this article to the preliminary description and analysis of the database of fellows funded abroad by these research agencies from 1970 to 2000. The movement of flows based on the quantitative methodology of the correlation of variables draws the trends of international academic exchange programs in the three research institutions and in the different areas of knowledge, and we intend to analyse them taking into account the scientific and technological development policies adopted by Brazilian State on the period.

TEORIA SINTÁTICA: DE UMA PERSPECTIVA DE -ISMOS PARA UMAPERSPECTIVA DE PROGRAMAS

This paper tries to show that the developments in linguistic sciences are better viewed as stages in a single research program, rather than different ideological -isms. The first part contains an overview of the structuralistas' beliefs about the universality and equivalence of human languages, and their search for syntactic universals. In the second part, we will see that the generative program, in its turn, tries to answer why language is a universal faculty in the human species and addresses questions about its form, its development and its use. In the second part, we will see that the paper gives a brief glimpse of the tentative answers the program has been giving to each of these issues.

This paper aims to discuss the future -- and the proper survival of Textlinguistics this millenium, and the challenges it has to face in order to contribute to the development of Human Sciences in a new era.

Pesquisa qualitativa em Educação Física: possibilidades de construção de conhecimento a partir do referencial cultural

This work indicates presuppositions for the qualitative research in Physical Education, starting with a literature review based on the cultural frame of reference. Firstly, we introduce the debate concerning the natural and the human sciences and implications for the Physical Education; we then use a cultural axis as a ground basis for the research in the area, proposing the 'dense description' as a possibility for knowledge building; finally, we bring up examples of studies conducted with such an approach. This theoretical methodological approach allows the study of the human being as a cultural being, thus opposed to the naturalised view of a human - predominant in Physical Education.
