Ab initio calculations of Afρ are presented using Mie scattering theory and a Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) dust outflow model in support of the Rosetta mission and its target 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (CG). These calculations are performed for particle sizes ranging from 0.010 μm to 1.0 cm. The present status of our knowledge of various differential particle size distributions is reviewed and a variety of particle size distributions is used to explore their effect on Afρ , and the dust mass production View the MathML sourcem˙. A new simple two parameter particle size distribution that curtails the effect of particles below 1 μm is developed. The contributions of all particle sizes are summed to get a resulting overall Afρ. The resultant Afρ could not easily be predicted a priori and turned out to be considerably more constraining regarding the mass loss rate than expected. It is found that a proper calculation of Afρ combined with a good Afρ measurement can constrain the dust/gas ratio in the coma of comets as well as other methods presently available. Phase curves of Afρ versus scattering angle are calculated and produce good agreement with observational data. The major conclusions of our calculations are: – The original definition of A in Afρ is problematical and Afρ should be: qsca(n,λ)×p(g)×f×ρqsca(n,λ)×p(g)×f×ρ. Nevertheless, we keep the present nomenclature of Afρ as a measured quantity for an ensemble of coma particles.– The ratio between Afρ and the dust mass loss rate View the MathML sourcem˙ is dominated by the particle size distribution. – For most particle size distributions presently in use, small particles in the range from 0.10 to 1.0 μm contribute a large fraction to Afρ. – Simplifying the calculation of Afρ by considering only large particles and approximating qsca does not represent a realistic model. Mie scattering theory or if necessary, more complex scattering calculations must be used. – For the commonly used particle size distribution, dn/da ∼ a−3.5 to a−4, there is a natural cut off in Afρ contribution for both small and large particles. – The scattering phase function must be taken into account for each particle size; otherwise the contribution of large particles can be over-estimated by a factor of 10. – Using an imaginary index of refraction of i = 0.10 does not produce sufficient backscattering to match observational data. – A mixture of dark particles with i ⩾ 0.10 and brighter silicate particles with i ⩽ 0.04 matches the observed phase curves quite well. – Using current observational constraints, we find the dust/gas mass-production ratio of CG at 1.3 AU is confined to a range of 0.03–0.5 with a reasonably likely value around 0.1.

BACKGROUND Long-term success rates using ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) are disappointing and usually do not exceed 60%. OBJECTIVES This study sought to compare arrhythmia-free survival between pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and a stepwise approach (full defrag) consisting of PVI, ablation of complex fractionated electrograms, and additional linear ablation lines in the setting of atrial tachycardias (AT) in patients with persistent AF after PVI. METHODS From November 2010 to February 2013, 205 patients (151 men; 61.7 ± 10.2 years of age) underwent de novo ablation for persistent AF. Subsequently, patients were prospectively randomized to either PVI alone (n = 78) or full defrag (n = 75), with 52 patients not randomized due to AF termination with the original PVI. The primary endpoint was recurrence of any AT after a blanking period of 3 months. RESULTS During the entire study, 241 ablations were performed (mean: 1.59 in the PVI-alone group, 1.55 in the full-defrag group). With the stepwise approach, termination of AF occurred in 45 (60%) patients. However, arrhythmia-free survival did not differ whether patients underwent single or multiple procedures (p = 0.468). Procedure duration, fluoroscopy time, and radiofrequency duration were significantly longer in the full-defrag group (all p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS A stepwise approach aimed at AF termination does not seem to provide additional benefit over PVI alone in patients with persistent AF, but it is associated with significantly longer procedural and fluoroscopic duration as well as radiofrequency application time. The U.S. Air Force assesses Active Duty Air Force (ADAF) health annually using the Air Force Web-based Preventative Health Assessment (AF WebPHA). The assessment is based on a self-administered survey used to determine the overall Air Force health and readiness, as well as, the individual health of each airman. Individual survey responses as well as groups of responses generate further computer generated assessment and result in a classification of 'Critical', 'Priority', or 'Routine', depending on the need and urgency for further evaluation by a health care provider. The importance of the 'Priority' and 'Critical' classifications is to provide timely intervention to prevent or limit unfavorable outcomes that may threaten an airman. Though the USAF has been transitioning from a paper form to the online WebPHA survey for the last three years it was not made mandatory for all airmen until 2009. The survey covers many health aspects including family history, tobacco use, exercise, alcohol use, and mental health. ^ Military stressors such as deployment, change of station, and the trauma of war can aggravate and intensify the common baseline worries experienced by the general population and place airmen at additional risks for mental health concerns and illness. This study assesses the effectiveness of the AF WebPHA mental health screening questions in predicting a mental health disorder diagnosis according to International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes generated by physicians or their surrogates. In order to assess the sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value of the AF WebPHA as a screening tool for mental health, survey results were compared to ascertain if they generated any mental health disorder related diagnosis for the period from January 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010. ^ Statistical analysis of the AF WebPHA mental health responses when compared with matching ICD-9-CM codes found that the sensitivity for 'Critical' or 'Priority' responses was only 3.4% and that it would correctly predict those who had the selected mental health diagnosis 9% of the time.^

El ensayo se llevó a cabo en invernáculo con plántulas de Atriplex lampa (zampa) de 30 días. Se realizaron 5 tratamientos, con 20 repeticiones cada uno. El modelo experimental fue completamente aleatorizado. Durante 28 días se efectuaron riegos cada 5 días con soluciones de Murashige & Skoog (MS) y distintas concentraciones finales de NaCl: T1 (sin NaCl) y T2, T3, T4 y T5 con 200, 400, 600 y 800 mM NaCl respectivamente. Se midió: a) la altura de las plantas, a partir del cuello, a los 7, 14, 21 y 28 días; b) el peso seco -por separado- del vástago y la raíz y potencial agua, al finalizar el ensayo (día 28) en muestras tomadas antes del amanecer en plantas cortadas a la altura del cuello. El NaCl adicionado redujo el crecimiento de Atriplex lampa respecto de T1. Dicho efecto se acentuó con el aumento de la concentración salina y la cantidad de días bajo tratamiento. La materia seca aérea producida disminuyó a medida que aumentaba la salinidad del suelo. La producción de materia seca radical no mostró diferencias significativas (P > 0.05) entre tratamientos. Por lo tanto, la zampa podría adaptarse a suelos salinos con crecimiento aceptable, constituyendo una alternativa forrajera valiosa para regiones áridas y salinas.

El CODENOBA, consorcio intermunicipal de 9 municipios del noroeste de Buenos Aires (Partidos de: Alberti, Bragado, Carlos Casares, General Viamonte, Hipólito Irigoyen, Nueve de Julio, Pehuajó, Rivadavia y Trenque Lauquen), nace en el año 1994. En aquel entonces la provincia promocionaba los corredores productivos, fomentando la descentralización como herramienta para alentar iniciativas locales de desarrollo. El consorcio es creado en 1994 a raíz de las inundaciones que afectaron el 70de las tierras. Con cerca de 230.000 habitantes, el territorio intermunicipal representa cerca del 10de la superficie de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. Su economía esencialmente centrada en torno al sector del agro representa cerca del 4del PBI de dicha Provincia. Conocer el patrón de hábitos activos en la población adulta, saber en que medida algunos factores socioeconómicos, ambientales y demográficos afectan o condicionan la realización de prácticas activas, permitirá diseñar estrategias de promoción a nivel comunitario con mayor eficacia y dirigidas específicamente a sectores bien definidos, lo que sería una manera mucho más eficaz en términos de costo efectividad. El conocimiento obtenido por vía de esta investigación permitiría además, observar la interrelación de las políticas públicas municipales con los diferentes niveles de actividad física habitual sea en el tiempo libre, en situación de traslado entre lugares y dentro de la jornada laboral. Una vez establecidas estas relaciones, las campañas de promoción podrán ser dirigidas a una o más poblaciones específicas, o bien diseñarse para un grupo etario en particular
