Network reconfiguration in distribution systems can be carried out by changing the status of sectionalizing switches and it is usually done for loss minimization and load balancing. In this paper it is presented an heuristic algorithm that accomplishes network reconfiguration for operation planning in order to obtain a configuration set whose configurations have the smallest active losses on its feeders. To obtain the configurations, it is used an approached radial load flow method and an heuristic proceeding based on maximum limit of voltage drop on feeders. Results are presented for three hypothetical systems largely known whose data are available in literature and a real system with 135 busses. In addition, it is used a fast and robust load flow which decreases the computational effort.

In this paper is proposed a methodology for semiautomatic CBERS image orientation using roads as ground control. It is based on an iterative strategy involving three steps. In the first step, an operator identifies on the image the ground control roads and supplies along them a few seed points, which could be sparsely and coarsely distributed. These seed points are used by the dynamic programming algorithm for extracting the ground control roads from the image. In the second step, it is established the correspondences between points describing the ground control roads and the corresponding ones extracted from the image. In the last step, the corresponding points are used to orient the CBERS image by using the DLT (Direct Linear Transformation). The two last steps are iterated until the convergence of the orientation process is verified. Experimental results showed that the proposed methodology was efficient with several test images. In all cases the orientation process converged. Moreover, the estimated orientation parameters allowed the registration of check roads with pixel accuracy or better.

This paper presents a methodology and a mathematical model to solve the expansion planning problem that takes into account the effect of contingencies in the planning stage, and considers the demand as a stochastic variable within a specified range. In this way, it is possible to find a solution that minimizes the investment costs guarantying reliability and minimizing future load shedding. The mathematical model of the expansion planning can be represented by a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem. To solve this problem a specialized Genetic Algorithm combined with Linear Programming was implemented.

The study of nutrient uptake is of fundamental importance to plant nutrition, as well as tell the time (growth stage) being absorbed by the culture, also signals to the levels of fertilizer to be used. Aiming to establish the uptake of nitrogen for cultivation of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch.) led to an experiment in a Alfissol under randomized block design with two treatments, sowing conventional tillage and after tillage on the straw of previous crop (millet), with five replicates. Samples were taken according to the phenology and plants development. The dry matter accumulation in cotton is linear and increasing until the period of large boll, being more intense with the appearance of flowers and boll, or 50 to 100 days after emergence. The nitrogen content is higher in newly emerged plants, having peaks at the beginning of the appearance of squares and flowers, and from the appearance of small boll, the nitrogen content in the plant decreases linearly. The extraction of nitrogen is bigger from the appearance of flowers (55-60 days after emergence).
