Microstructure, properties and application of YAl2 intermetallic compound as particle reinforcements
Resumo:
An yttrium aluminum (YAl2) intermetallic compound ingot was prepared in an induction furnace under vacuum. The microstructure of YAl2 ingot was characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The load bearing response of YAl2 intermetallic was investigated and compared with SiC ceramic by indentation combined with optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, the tensile properties of the Mg–Li matrix composites reinforced with ultrafine YAl2 particles fabricated by planet ball milling were tested. The results show that the intermetallic compound ingot in this experiment is composed of a main face-centered-cubic structure YAl2 phase, a small amount of YAl phase, and minor Y and Al-rich phases. YAl2 intermetallic compound has excellent stability and shows better capability in crack resistance than SiC ceramic. The YAl2 intermetallic compound has better deformation compatibility with the Mg–14Li–3Al matrix than SiC reinforcement with the matrix, which leads to the superior resistance to crack for YAl2p/Mg–14Li–3Al composite compared to SiCp/Mg–14Li–3Al composite.

A series of ionic liquids based on Girard's reagents was synthesised. Their tunable thermomorphic behaviour with water was demonstrated, and slight modifications in the cationic structure led to drastic changes in their water miscibility. Their phase behaviour, involving monophasic–biphasic transitions, drove a number of practical applications, including scavenging water-soluble dyes and the extraction of metals from water.

Kuznetsov independence of variables X and Y means that, for any pair of bounded functions f(X) and g(Y), E[f(X)g(Y)]=E[f(X)] *times* E[g(Y)], where E[.] denotes interval-valued expectation and *times* denotes interval multiplication. We present properties of Kuznetsov independence for several variables, and connect it with other concepts of independence in the literature; in particular we show that strong extensions are always included in sets of probability distributions whose lower and upper expectations satisfy Kuznetsov independence. We introduce an algorithm that computes lower expectations subject to judgments of Kuznetsov independence by mixing column generation techniques with nonlinear programming. Finally, we define a concept of conditional Kuznetsov independence, and study its graphoid properties.

A rapid and stereodefined synthesis of MIDA−boryl vinylsilanes has been achieved through the hydrosilylation of an alkynylboronic ester. The E products which contain a silyl and boryl group can be selectively cross-coupled in a two-step bidirectional sequence to provide a rapid and high-yielding synthesis of complex styrenes.

Aims: In this paper we aim to investigate the evolution of plasmaproperties and Stokes parameters in photospheric magnetic bright pointsusing 3D magneto-hydrodynamical simulations and radiative diagnostics ofsolar granulation.
Methods: Simulated time-dependent radiationparameters and plasma properties were investigated throughout theevolution of a bright point. Synthetic Stokes profiles for the FeI630.25 nm line were calculated, which also allowed the evolution of theStokes-I line strength and Stokes-V area and amplitude asymmetries to beinvestigated.
Results: Our results are consistent withtheoretical predictions and published observations describing convectivecollapse, and confirm this as the bright point formation process.Through degradation of the simulated data to match the spatialresolution of SOT, we show that high spatial resolution is crucial forthe detection of changing spectro-polarimetric signatures throughout amagnetic bright point's lifetime. We also show that the signaturedownflow associated with the convective collapse process tends towardszero as the radiation intensity in the bright point peaks, because ofthe magnetic forces present restricting the flow of material in the fluxtube.

The ongoing use of various mineral additions along with chemical admixtures such as superplasticizers justifies the need for further research. Understanding and quantifying their effects and possible synergies on the fresh and hardened properties of cement-based materials is necessary, especially if some of these components are known to have a pozzolanic effect. This paper describes and models the fresh and hardened properties of cement mortars including nanosilica and fly ash, and relates their properties to the proportioning of these materials and the superplasticizer dosage. Mini-slump, Marsh cone and Lombardi cone tests were used to examine the properties of the fresh mortars, and to assess density, plastic shrinkage, and drying shrinkage up to 20 days. The equations presented in this paper make it possible to optimize mortar proportionings to the required levels of performance in both fresh and hardened states.

Effect of storage on physical-chemical properties and phenolics of sweet cherry from São Julião region. A.C. Agulheiro-Santos1, F. Vieira1, D. Gonzalez2, M. Lozano2, V. Palma1, A.E. Ctra. San Vicente. Finca Santa Engracia. 06071 Badajoz, Spain. Worldwide the consumption of fruit and vegetables is increasing due to the dietary guidelines recommended by nutritionist. Because of their high content on phenols, vitamins, mineral and antioxidants, berry fruits are consumed not only in fresh forms but also as processed and derivative products such as juices, yogurts, jellies and dried fruits. As a high consumed red fruit, sweet cherry has been the focus on some studies, mainly regarding bioactive compounds content. “Sweetheart” cherries from São Julião region (Alentejo, Portugal) from two different production campaigns were kept in different storage conditions in order to evaluate both the environmental and storage effect on some physical-chemical properties and phenolics. Cold conditions - Cold (1 ºC, 95% RH) and modified atmosphere - MA (1 ºC, 95% RH with micro-perforated bags of Pplus®, Sidlaw Packaging, Bristol, UK) were tested. In order to establish the appropriate storage conditions, individual phenolic acids and physical-chemical properties were analysed during two consecutive years. Results show a general decrease on phenolic compounds content between cherries from both years. It is also observed that MA conditions do not affect significantly both phenolics and physical-chemical parameters when compared with Cold conditions. Additionally, it is observed similar behaviour on Cold and MA sweet cherries regarding its pH, total soluble solids content (TSS), titratable acidity (TA) and colour and individual phenols during storage time. Concluding, these results show, as expected, changes between cultivars which may be correlated with the environmental conditions on different years. Keywords: sweet cherry, postharvest, phenols, physical-chemical, storage conditions.
