Teen pregnancy is a continuing problem, bringing with it a host of associated health and social risks. Alternative school students are especially at risk, but are historically under-represented in research. This is especially problematic in that instruments are needed to guide effective intervention development, but psychometrics for these instruments cannot be assumed when used in new populations. Decisional balance from the transtheoretical model offers a framework for understanding condom decision making, but has not been tested with alternative school students. Using responses from 640 subjects from Safer Choices 2 (a school-based HIV/STD/pregnancy prevention program implemented in 10 urban, southwestern alternative schools), a decisional balance scale for condom use was examined. A two-factor, mildly correlated model fit the data well. Tests of invariance examined scale functioning within gender and racial/ethnic groups. The underlying structure varied slightly based on subgroup, but on a practical level the impact on the use of scales was minimal. The structure and loadings were invariant across experimental condition. The pro scale was associated with a lower probability of having engaged in unprotected sexual behavior for sexually active subjects, and this association remained significant while controlling for demographic variables. The con scale did not show a significant association with engagement in unprotected sexual behaviors. Limitations and directions for future research were also discussed.^

Outdoor environmental risk factors for asthma have been extensively researched, even though the majority of a person's daily activity occurs indoors. There is limited evidence linking personal exposure concentrations of ozone, pollen, mold, temperature, and humidity to childhood asthma. ^ The current study consisted of a secondary, more complex analysis of the data from the Houston Air Toxics and Asthma in Children (ATAC) Study to further investigate the association of personal ozone exposure on asthma outcome variability among middle school children with asthma. The ATAC Study primarily investigated the association between selected oxygenated air toxics and indicators of asthma variability (PEFR, FEV1, asthma symptoms, and rescue medication usage) among 30 labile and persistent Houston middle-school children with diagnosed asthma. This panel study used a repeated measurements design of four separate 10-day sampling periods that extended over a 20 month period. The secondary analysis included aggregate regression models that were constructed with two different estimates of ozone exposure (daily maximum hourly outdoor concentration and daily maximum hourly personal exposure), with three different estimates of personal environmental temperature and humidity exposures (daily average, intraday difference, and interday difference), and for thee different time periods [same day of exposure (lag 0), one day after initial exposure (lag 1), and two days after initial exposure (lag 2)]. ^ Overall, the models using daily maximum hourly personal ozone exposures in combination with intraday and interday personal temperature and humidity differences produced more significant plausible associations than models using daily maximum hourly personal ozone exposures with personal average temperature and humidity exposures. Significant associations were identified between daily maximum hourly personal ozone exposure and clinical indicators of asthma variability. The increasing effect on rescue medication usage from daily maximum hourly personal ozone exposure were identified as soon as the same day of exposure (lag 0; p=0.0072), and the same effects were delayed until the second next day (lag 2; p= 0.0026). The increasing effect on asthma symptoms were identified on the second next day after initial exposure (lag 2; p= 0.0024). There was a consistent inverse relationship between personal relative humidity exposure and indicators of asthma variability. Decreasing effects on daily FEV1 variability from personal relative humidity exposure were identified on the same day of exposure (lag 0; p= 0.034), increasing effects on morning PEFR were identified on the next day after initial exposure (lag 1; p= 0.0001), and decreasing effects on overnight PEFR variability were identified on the second next day after the initial exposure (lag 2; p= 0.007). With the conclusion of this research, there are opportunities for future similar studies in the preventive management of asthma in children living in high-ozone areas.^

This work proposes to seek for the factors related to the choices that people with special educational needs make as the result of the visual impairment, during the transition stage from high school to advanced education. Therefore, we have taken into consideration that Vocational Guidance and the transition towards adulthood get specific characteristics in case of visually impaired young people, particularly in what's related to continue with advanced education. The focus of this work is to be able to clarify the existence of factors that make this transition stage easier or harder, through the observation of visually impaired and blind people who complete high school. This matter has aroused interest and concern about the strategies to follow to ensure the successful entrance and remaining in the selected advanced education. However, if we don?t know the factors involved in the described fact, it's difficult to design an appropriate intervention strategy. Then, in order to take acknowledge about the specific issues of visually impaired young people who complete high school, we chose a special school for this disability and some students who will join this project

This article presents the findings of a field research, not experimental, observational, correlating, basic, of mixed data, micro sociologic, leading to a study of surveys. The object of study is to find learning kinds, and the unit of analysis were 529 high school students between 16 and 21 years old. Its purpose is to understand the impact of learning by rote, guided, self learned and meaningful learning and its achievement degree besides the learning outcomes of differentiated curriculum based on David Ausubel's thoughts, associated with different economic specialties (MINEDUC, 1998) where the population of the study is trained. To collect data, the test TADA - DO2 was used, this test has a reliability index of 0.911 according to Cronbach. From the hits it can be stated from the null hypothesis that there is a significant association (a = 0,05) between the learning kinds and the learning expected of differentiated training plan for both, male and female. It is complex to state that the training of the middle-level technicians leads to a successful employment.

This paper presents partial results of a research in the area of Vocational Occupational Guidance at the National University of San Luis on the subject "Transition School-University". The information offered here follows a survey on the relationship between the educational area and the organizations, persons and programs of the work and employment area. Reference is made to the information the different participants get as well as the importance they assign to said relationship. The interest of the results obtained is discussed with a view to optimize interventions in the speciality by taking into account the need of articulation of actions between the areas involved.
