Comparison of Microwave and Electrical Properties Selected Conducting Polymers

Microwave properties of conductive polymers is crucial because of their wide areas of applications such as coating in reflector antennas, coating in electronic equipments, firequenry selective .surfaces, EMI materials, satellite communication links, microchip antennas, and medical applications. This work involves a comparative study of dielectric properties of selected conducting polymers such as polyaniline. poly(3,4-eth),lenedio.syt2iophene), polvthiophene, polvpvrrole. and pohparaphenylene diazomethine (PPDA) in microwave and DC,fields. The inicrowave properties such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss. absorption coefficient, heating coefficient, skin depth, and conductivity in the microwave frequency (S hand), and DC fields were compared. PEDOT and polccuiiline were found to exhibit excellent properties in DC field and microwave frequencies, which make thein potential materials in many of the alorenientioned applications

DC electrical conductivity and phase transitions in (NH4)3H(SO4)2

Four distinct peaks are observed at 140, -26, -132 and -140°C in the sigma x* against T-1 plot between 200 and - 196°C for (NH4)3H(SO4)2, corresponding to four different phase transitions of which the one at -26°C is reported here for the first time. Data on doped samples reveal the charge transport mechanism in the crystal.

An efficient scheme for the evaluation of coding performance of high speed links incorporating joint error behaviour based on Monte Carlo Method

While channel coding is a standard method of improving a system’s energy efficiency in digital communications, its practice does not extend to high-speed links. Increasing demands in network speeds are placing a large burden on the energy efficiency of high-speed links and render the benefit of channel coding for these systems a timely subject. The low error rates of interest and the presence of residual intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by hardware constraints impede the analysis and simulation of coded high-speed links. Focusing on the residual ISI and combined noise as the dominant error mechanisms, this paper analyses error correlation through concepts of error region, channel signature, and correlation distance. This framework provides a deeper insight into joint error behaviours in high-speed links, extends the range of statistical simulation for coded high-speed links, and provides a case against the use of biased Monte Carlo methods in this setting

A Novel Slotless Halbach-Array Permanent-Magnet Brushless DC Motor for Spacecraft Applications

This paper presents the design and analysis of a novel machine family—the enclosed-rotor Halbach-array permanentmagnet brushless dcmotors for spacecraft applications. The initial design, selection of major parameters, and air-gap magnetic flux density are estimated using the analytical model of the machine. The proportion of the Halbach array in the machine is optimized using finite element analysis to obtain a near-trapezoidal flux pattern. The machine is found to provide uniform air-gap flux density along the radius, thus avoiding circulating currents in stator conductors and thereby reducing torque ripple. Furthermore, the design is validated with experimental results on a fabricated machine and is found to suit the design requirements of critical spacecraft applications

Design and Analysis of Zero Cogging Brushless DC Motor for Spacecraft Applications

This paper presents the optimal design of a sur- face mounted permanent magnet Brushless DC mo- tor (PMBLDC) meant for spacecraft applications. The spacecraft applications requires the choice of a torques motor with high torque density, minimum cogging torque, better positional stability and high torque to inertia ratio. Performance of two types of machine con¯gurations viz Slotted PMBLDC and Slotless PMBLDC with halbach array are compared with the help of analytical and FE methods. It is found that unlike a Slotted PMBLDC motor, the Slotless type with halbach array develops zero cogging torque without reduction in the developed torque. Moreover, the machine being coreless provides high torque to inertia ratio and zero magnetic stiction

Mathematical problem solving, modelling, applications, and links to other subjects

The paper will consist of three parts. In part I we shall present some background considerations which are necessary as a basis for what follows. We shall try to clarify some basic concepts and notions, and we shall collect the most important arguments (and related goals) in favour of problem solving, modelling and applications to other subjects in mathematics instruction. In the main part II we shall review the present state, recent trends, and prospective lines of development, both in empirical or theoretical research and in the practice of mathematics instruction and mathematics education, concerning problem solving, modelling, applications and relations to other subjects. In particular, we shall identify and discuss four major trends: a widened spectrum of arguments, an increased globality, an increased unification, and an extended use of computers. In the final part III we shall comment upon some important issues and problems related to our topic.

Caracterización demográfica, clínica y ocupacional de trabajadores con discapacidad osteomuscular; procesos de “inserción –reinserción laboral”, en un centro comercial de Bogotá DC 2009

Este trabajo pretende describir las características sociodemográficas, clínicas, ocupacionales y los resultados parciales del proceso de inserción - reinserción laboral de los trabajadores con discapacidad osteomuscular del centro comercial. Además, comparar el grupo de trabajadores en condición de discapacidad vs. el grupo de trabajadores sin discapacidad según los resultados en términos de productividad, confort y seguridad. Diseño descriptivo de corte transversal, de tipo correlacional. Población: vigilantes de la empresa SOCOVIG LTDA. que laboran en el Centro Comercial Gran Estación Bogotá en el período del mes de octubre del año 2009. Se desarrolló un cuestionario como instrumento de recolección de datos, que incluye variables sociodemográficas, clínicas y ocupacionales; se realiza el análisis estadístico utilizando distribuciones de frecuencias y porcentuales, en cuanto a las variables cuantitativas el promedio, la mediana, rango de desviación estándar y se usó el Ji cuadrado de asociación de Pearson con un nivel de significancia del 5%. En total se estudiaron 107 trabajadores, de los cuales 21 presentaban condición de discapacidad osteomuscular, lo que representa un 19.62% del total de la muestra. Al comparar los resultados en relación a productividad, confort y seguridad del grupo de trabajadores discapacitados vs. los trabajadores no discapacitados, no se obtuvo una diferencia significativa, Ji cuadrado de asociación de Pearson con un nivel de significancia < 5%. Lo que nos lleva a concluir que el grupo de trabajadores con discapacidad pueden desempeñar sus labores en el mismo cargo y con iguales condiciones laborales, que los trabajadores sin discapacidad, obteniendo los mismos resultados de productividad, confort y seguridad.
