Adolescència i preferències vocacionals: anàlisi comparativa per sexes, de les preferències vocacionals expressades per estudiants de 4t. d'Educació Secundària Obligatòria, a través d'un disseny longitudinal amb mostratges de subjectes diferents

Aquest treball de recerca consisteix en un estudi sobre les preferències vocacionals expressades per adolescents que cursen 4t d’Educació Secundària Obligatòria, amb una anàlisi comparativa per sexes. Es tracta d’un estudi de cas realitzat en un centre del Vallès Oriental, de caràcter longitudinal, en el que s’ha recollit durant 7 cursos acadèmics consecutius les seves preferències vocacionals a través de la prova d’interessos Kuder-C. L'objectiu ha estat comparar les preferències expressades pels nois i per les noies, les influències dels models de gènere estereotipats, així com l’existència o no de diferències entre ambdós col·lectius amb el pas del temps.

Nivell global d'estrès en pares i mares de fills diagnosticats amb trastorn del desenvolupament en les primeres etapes evolutives

Aquest treball és un estudi descriptiu centralitzat en una població concreta i en un moment concret. La investigació estudia el nivell d’estrès global que tenen els pares i les mares de fills/es amb un trastorn del seu desenvolupament en les seves primeres edats maduratives i com afronten aquest procés. S’han estudiat pares i mares de nens i nenes d’entre 2 i 6 anys d’edat i que han estat atesos en el Centre de Desenvolupament Infantil d’Atenció Precoç (CDIAP) Tris-Tras de Vic (Barcelona).

Location Determinants of New Firms: Does Skill Level of Human Capital Really Matter?

This paper is about the role played by stock of human capital on location decisions of new manufacturing plants. We analyse the effect of several skill levels (from basic school to PhD) on decisions about the location of plants in various industries and, therefore, of different technological levels. We also test whether spatial aggregation level biases the results and determine the most appropriate areas to be considered in analyses of these phenomena. Our main statistical source is the Register of Manufacturing Establishments of Catalonia (REIC), which has plant-level microdata on the locations of new manufacturing plants. Ultimate test bench for pediatric biventricular assist device based on artificial muscles.

Ventricular assist devices (VADs) are used in treatment for terminal heart failure or as a bridge to transplantation. We created biVAD using the artificial muscles (AMs) that supports both ventricles at the same time. We developed the test bench (TB) as the in vitro evaluating system to enable the measurement of performance. The biVAD exerts different pressure between left and right ventricle like the heart physiologically does. The heart model based on child's heart was constructed in silicone. This model was fitted with the biVAD. Two pipettes containing water with an ultrasonic sensor placed on top of each and attached to ventricles reproduced the preload and the after load of each ventricle by the real-time measurement of the fluid height variation proportionally to the exerted pressure. The LabVIEW software extrapolated the displaced volume and the pressure generated by each side of our biVAD. The development of a standardized protocol permitted the validation of the TB for in vitro evaluation, measurement of the performances of the AM biVAD herein, and reproducibility of data.

El present treball emmarca el concepte d'autisme des del punt de vista de diversos autors tant espanyols com de la resta del món. Així­ mateix intenta fer comprendre l'autisme des de diferents teories. Un altre punt bàsic del treball és la descricpció de diferents teràpies amb animals per abordar l'autisme, i en concret es realitza un estudi fonamental de la delfinoteràpia i els resultats a curt plaç en el delfinari Aqualand de Tenerife, arribant a conclusions per tal de poder ampliar més l'estudi en la Tesi Doctoral.

Genetic and Antigenic Analysis of Adenovirus Type 3 Strains Showing Intermediate Behavior in Standard Seroneutralization Test

During an epidemiological survey of acute respiratory infection in Rio de Janeiro, among 208 adenovirus isolates, we found two strains that we were not able, by a standard neutralization procedure, to distinguish between type 3 or 7. However, DNA restriction pattern for the two strains with different enzymes were analyzed and showed a typical Ad3h profile. Using a cross-neutralization test in which both Ad3p and Ad7p antisera were used in different concentration against 100 TCID50 of each adenovirus standard and both isolates, we were able to confirm that the two isolates belong to serotype 3. An hemagglutination inhibition test also corroborated the identification of both strains as adenovirus type 3. Comparing Ad3h and Ad3p genome, we observed 16 different restriction enzyme sites, three of which were located in genomic regions encoding polypeptides involved in neutralization sites

Application of the combined integral method to Stefan problems

In this paper we present a new, accurate form of the heat balance integral method, termed the Combined Integral Method (or CIM). The application of this method to Stefan problems is discussed. For simple test cases the results are compared with exact and asymptotic limits. In particular, it is shown that the CIM is more accurate than the second order, large Stefan number, perturbation solution for a wide range of Stefan numbers. In the initial examples it is shown that the CIM reduces the standard problem, consisting of a PDE defined over a domain specified by an ODE, to the solution of one or two algebraic equations. The latter examples, where the boundary temperature varies with time, reduce to a set of three first order ODEs.

Haar wavelets-based approach for quantifying credit portfolio losses

This paper proposes a new methodology to compute Value at Risk (VaR) for quantifying losses in credit portfolios. We approximate the cumulative distribution of the loss function by a finite combination of Haar wavelet basis functions and calculate the coefficients of the approximation by inverting its Laplace transform. The Wavelet Approximation (WA) method is specially suitable for non-smooth distributions, often arising in small or concentrated portfolios, when the hypothesis of the Basel II formulas are violated. To test the methodology we consider the Vasicek one-factor portfolio credit loss model as our model framework. WA is an accurate, robust and fast method, allowing to estimate VaR much more quickly than with a Monte Carlo (MC) method at the same level of accuracy and reliability.

In vitro Comparison of Disk Diffusion and Agar Dilution Antibiotic Susceptibility Test Methods for Neisseria gonorrhoeae

At present, most Neisseria gonorrhoeae testing is done with ß-lactamase and agar dilution tests with common therapeutic agents. Generally, in bacteriological diagnosis laboratories in Argentina, study of antibiotic susceptibility of N.gonorrhoeae is based on ß-lactamase determination and agar dilution method with common therapeutic agents. The National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) has recently described a disk diffusion test that produces results comparable to the reference agar dilution method for antibiotic susceptibility of N.gonorrhoeae, using a dispersion diagram for analyzing the correlation between both techniques. We obtained 57 gonococcal isolates from patients attending a clinic for sexually transmitted diseases in Tucumán, Argentina. Antibiotic susceptibility tests using agar dilution and disk diffusion techniques were compared. The established NCCLS interpretive criteria for both susceptibility methods appeared to be applicable to domestic gonococcal strains. The correlation between the MIC's and the zones of inhibition was studied for penicillin, ampicillin, cefoxitin, spectinomycin, cefotaxime, cephaloridine, cephalexin, tetracycline, norfloxacin and kanamycin. Dispersion diagrams showed a high correlation between both methods.

“D’Ermua a Patxi López (1997-2009): la complicitat de la premsa amb la política espanyola al País Basc” versa sobre la connivència de determinats mitjans de comunicació escrits a Madrid, principalment, amb una estratègia política d’Estat. Una estratègia instigada pels governs del Partit Popular (1996-2004) que perseguia estigmatitzar el conjunt del nacionalisme basc associant-lo al terrorisme de l’organització ETA. Es tractava d’una campanya d’intoxicació de l’opinió pública per desacreditar el govern del PNB a Vitòria i, així, fer possible l’alternança política. Tanmateix, el fracàs del tàndem PP-PSE a les eleccions basques de 2001 dóna pas al perfeccionament de l’alternança, per mitjà de l’aprovació de la Llei de Partits Polítics (2002) que possibilità la posterior il•legalització de l’esquerra abertzale, tot fent-la fora del joc parlamentari.

Protocolo de comunicación para AMR

Aquest projecte tracta d'aportar una idea al futur dels comptadors automàtics, on tant el usuaris, com les empreses, tindran un control continu sobre les dades. A més a més s’han buscar sistemes i protocols que realitzin una bona comunicació entre els comptadors automàtics, en aquest punt on entra la tecnologia W-Mbus. Aquesta tecnologia juntament amb els microcontroladors de baix consum, proporcionats per Texas Instruments, són la millor combinació per aconseguir el nostre objectiu.

Scheduling in virtual infrastructure

For the execution of the scientific applications, different methods have been proposed to dynamically provide execution environments for such applications that hide the complexity of underlying distributed and heterogeneous infrastructures. Recently virtualization has emerged as a promising technology to provide such environments. Virtualization is a technology that abstracts away the details of physical hardware and provides virtualized resources for high-level scientific applications. Virtualization offers a cost-effective and flexible way to use and manage computing resources. Such an abstraction is appealing in Grid computing and Cloud computing for better matching jobs (applications) to computational resources. This work applies the virtualization concept to the Condor dynamic resource management system by using Condor Virtual Universe to harvest the existing virtual computing resources to their maximum utility. It allows existing computing resources to be dynamically provisioned at run-time by users based on application requirements instead of statically at design-time thereby lay the basis for efficient use of the available resources, thus providing way for the efficient use of the available resources.

Interpretación en los servicios públicos en el ámbito sanitario en la provincia de Barcelona

El nostre treball pretén observar com estan organitzats els serveis de TISSPP de l'àmbit sanitari de Barcelona. Amb aquesta finalitat, realitzem una observació indirecta detallada mitjançant entrevistes semi-estructurades tant a professionals de la salut, com al personal encarregat de gestionar aquests serveis. Els resultats obtinguts ens van permetre de descriure en què consisteixen els serveis de TISSPP dels centres estudiats, quin és el perfil dels seus usuaris, dels seus prestataris i dels professionals de la salut que els utilitzen. Així mateix, descrivim com s'està duent a terme la pràctica de la TISSPP i quina avaluació rep
