As Ulceras de Pressão (UP) podem ocorrer em todos os níveis de cuidados particularmente em situações de mobilidade reduzida e actividade diminuídas e a sua prevalência crescente constitui um problema significativo de saúde pública já que tem repercussões importantes na qualidade de vida dos doentes e suas famílias para além da sobrecarga financeira para os mesmos e para os sistemas de saúde. Pode definir-se UP como uma lesão localizada da pele e/ou tecido subjacente, normalmente sobre uma proeminência óssea, em resultado da pressão ou de uma combinação entre esta e forças de torção. Objectivou-se determinar a prevalência e os factores determinantes de desenvolvimento de ulceras de pressão no momento da admissão e alta em utentes institucionalizadas numa UMDR integrada na RNCCI. Estudo retrospectivo, de natureza quantitativa, realizado numa instituição de média duração, sendo a amostra constituída por 300 participantes. Para a colheita de dados elaborou-se um questionário que foi aplicado no período de 1 de Setembro a 31 de Outubro de 2014. Para a análise dos resultados, utilizou-se o programa estatístico SPSS. Na admissão registou-se 34% de prevalência de UP, 16,7% dos casos foi adquirida no domicílio e em 42,0% dos casos a UP é de Grau III, e em 11,7% das situações a UP mais grave localiza-se no sacro. Na alta observaram-se 24% de casos de UP, em que 12,0% das situações a UP é de Grau IV e em 10,0% de Grau III e em 7,7% das situações a UP mais grave se localiza no trocânter e em 6,7% no sacro. Constatou-se que 50% dos utentes são do sexo masculino e 50% do sexo feminino, com uma média de 74,82 anos de idade. Apresentam uma média de tempo de permanência na UMDR de 92,36 dias. 66,3% dos utentes ingressam na UMDR para reabilitação funcional e 29% para tratamento de feridas/UP. A maioria dos utentes revelou perda de autonomia para a realização das atividades de vida diária, com a sua dependência funcional comprometida quer na admissão, quer na alta. Os participantes na admissão apresentam 78,7% de alto risco para desenvolver úlceras de pressão e na alta este valor desceu para 54%. Como conclusão poderá inferir-se que a idade avançada, incontinência urinária e fecal, a presença de sonda vesical, o alto risco de desenvolvimento de UP e a presença de incapacidade aumenta o risco de desenvolver ulceras de pressão. Wormian bones (WB) are irregular small cranial ossicles found along suture lines and fontanels. In Brazil, gunshot wounds to the skull are quite common in young individuals. Nevertheless, as far as we know, this is the first report of a WB giving an erroneous aspect of gunshot entrance due to its displacement position. The present manuscript describes the case of a Brazilian young man who died due to ballistic trauma, where a gaping bony defect on the right side of the skull was thought to be the exit wound of an injury related to the destruction found on the left side, highly suggestive of firearm injury. Thus, this case study has brought to light similarities between a traumatic lesion and an orifice of a WB, with emphasis on differential diagnosis during routine anthropological examinations.

This data set describes different vegetation, soil and plant functional traits (PFTs) of 15 plant species in 30 sampling plots of an agricultural landscape in the Haean-myun catchment in South Korea. We divided the data set into two main tables, the first one includes the PFTs data of the 15 studied plant species, and the second one includes the soil and vegetation characteristics of the 30 sampling plots. For a total of 150 individuals, we measures the maximum plant height (cm) and leaf size (cm**2), which means the leaf surface area for the aboveground compartment of each individual. For the belowground compartment, we measured root horizontal width, which is the maximum horizontal spread of the root, rooting length, which is the maximum rooting depth, root diameter, which is the average root diameter of a the whole root, specific root length (SRL), which is the root length divided by the root dry mass, and root/shoot ratio, which is the root dry mass divided by the shoot dry mass. At each of the 30 studied plots, we estimated three different variables describing the vegetation characteristics: vegetation cover (i.e. the percentage of ground covered by vegetation), species richness (i.e. the number of observed species) and root density (estimated using a 30 cm x 30 cm metallic frame divided into nine 10 cm x 10 cm grids placed on the soil profile), as we calculated the total number of roots that appear in each of the nine grids and then we converted it into percentage based on the root count, following. Moreover, in each plot we estimated six different soil variables: Bulk density (g/cm**3), clay % (i.e. percentage of clay), silt % (i.e. percentage of silt), soil aggregate stability, using mean weight diameter (MWD), penetration resistance (kg/cm**2), using pocket penetrometer and soil shear vane strength (kPa).

Abundant and diverse polycystine radiolarian faunas from ODP Leg 181, Site 1123 (0-1.2 Ma at ~21 kyr resolution) and Site 1124 (0-0.6 Ma, ~5 kyr resolution, with a disconformity between 0.42-0.22 Ma) have been used to infer Pleistocene-Holocene paleoceanographic changes north of the Subtropical Front (STF), offshore eastern New Zealand, southwest Pacific. The abundance of warm-water taxa relative to cool-water taxa was used to determine a radiolarian paleotemperature index, the Subtropical (ST) Index. ST Index variations show strong covariance with benthic foraminifera oxygen isotope records from Site 1123 and exhibit similar patterns through Glacial-Interglacial (G-I) cycles of marine isotope stages (MIS) 15-1. At Site 1123, warm-water taxa peak in abundance during Interglacials (reaching ~8% of the total fauna). Within Glacials cool-water taxa increase to ~15% (MIS2) of the fauna. Changes in radiolarian assemblages at Site 1124 indicate similar but much better resolved trends through MIS15-12 and 7-1. Pronounced increases in warm-water taxa occur at the onset of Interglacials (reaching ~15% of the fauna), whereas the abundance of cool-water taxa increases in Glacials peaking in MIS2 (~17% of the fauna). Overall warmer conditions at Site 1124 during the last 600 kyrs indicate sustained influence of the subtropical, warm East Cape Current (ECC). During Interglacials radiolarian assemblages suggest an increase in marine productivity at both sites which might be due to predominance of micronutrient-rich Subtropical Water. At Site 1123, an increased abundance of deep-dwelling taxa in MIS 13 and 9 suggests enhanced vertical mixing. During Glacials, reduced vigour of ECC flow combined with northward expansion of cool, micronutrient-poor Subantarctic Water occurs. Only at Site 1123 there is evidence of a longitudinal shift of the STF, reaching as far north as 41°S.
