O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o potencial da raça delta avirulenta do fungo Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, como protetora contra raças virulentas deste fungo e quanto à capacidade de induzir resistência sistêmica em feijoeiro-comum (Phaseolus vulgaris). Quatro cultivares de feijoeiro foram avaliadas quanto às alterações nas atividades de beta 1,3 glucanase e quitinase, em dois estádios de desenvolvimento (V2 e R6), três dias após a aplicação de suspensão de esporos de C. lindemuthianum raça delta avirulenta, em comparação com aplicações de água e ácido salicílico. As plantas foram, então, infectadas com o patótipo virulento 33/95 de C. lindemuthianum em suspensão e, depois de cinco dias, foram reavaliadas quanto à atividade das enzimas. Observaram-se acréscimos significativos nas atividades da beta 1,3 glucanase e quitinase, após inoculação do fungo indutivo, nas duas avaliações, nos dois estádios de desenvolvimento. As atividades da beta 1,3 glucanase e da quitinase variaram entre as cultivares e entre os estádios de desenvolvimento das plantas. A correlação entre o índice de severidade da doea e a atividade das enzimas foi altamente significativa. O uso de C. lindemuthianum raça delta avirulenta diminuiu a severidade da doea e pode ter potencial para controlar a antracnose do feijoeiro.

OBJECTIVE: Palliative sedation is a last resort medical act aimed at relieving intolerable suffering induced by intractable symptoms in patients at the end-of-life. This act is generally accepted as being medically indicated under certain circumstances. A controversy remains in the literature as to its ethical validity. There is a certain vagueness in the literature regarding the legitimacy of palliative sedation in cases of non-physical refractory symptoms, especially "existential suffering." This pilot study aims to measure the influence of two independent variables (short/long prognosis and physical/existential suffering) on the physicians' attitudes toward palliative sedation (dependent variable). METHODS: We used a 2 × 2 experimental design as described by Blondeau et al. Four clinical vignettes were developed (vignette 1: short prognosis/existential suffering; vignette 2: long prognosis/existential suffering; vignette 3: short prognosis/physical suffering; vignette 4: long prognosis/physical suffering). Each vignette presented a terminally ill patient with a summary description of his physical and psychological condition, medication, and family situation. The respondents' attitude towards sedation was assessed with a six-point Likert scale. A total of 240 vignettes were sent to selected Swiss physicians. RESULTS: 74 vignettes were completed (36%). The means scores for attitudes were 2.62 ± 2.06 (v1), 1.88 ± 1.54 (v2), 4.54 ± 1.67 (v3), and 4.75 ± 1.71 (v4). General linear model analyses indicated that only the type of suffering had a significant impact on the attitude towards sedation (F = 33.92, df = 1, p = 0.000). Significance of the results: The French Swiss physicians' attitude toward palliative sedation is more favorable in case of physical suffering than in existential suffering. These results are in line with those found in the study of Blondeau et al. with Canadian physicians and will be discussed in light of the arguments given by physicians to explain their decisions.

Abstract We have analyzed purine (R) and pyrimidine (Y) codon patterns in variable and constant regions of HIV-1 gp120 in seven patients infected with different HIV-1 subtypes and naive to antiretroviral therapy. We have calculated the relative frequency of each in-frame codon RNY, YNR, RNR, and YNY (N=any nucleotide) in variable and constant regions of gp120, in the sequence within indels and at indels' flanking sites. Our data show that hypervariable regions V1, V2, V4, and V5 are characterized by the presence of long stretches of RNY codons constituting the majority of the sequence portion within insertions/deletions. In full-length gp120 and within inserted/deleted fragments the number of AVT (V=A, C, G) codons did not exceed 50% of the total RNY codons. RNY strings in variable regions spanned up to 21 codons and were always in frame. In contrast, RNY strings in constant regions were mostly out of frame and their length was limited to five codons. The frequency of the codon RNY was found to be significantly higher in variable regions (p<0.0001; t-test), within indels, and at indels' flanking sites (p<0.0001; χ(2) test). Analysis of the distribution of RNY strings equal to or longer than five codons in the full genome of HXB2 also shows that these sequences are mostly out of frame, unless they contain a potential N-glycosylation site or an asparagine. These data suggest that cryptic repeats of RNY may play a role in the genesis of multiple base insertions and deletions in hypervariable regions of gp120.

Standard practice of wave-height hazard analysis often pays little attention to the uncertainty of assessed return periods and occurrence probabilities. This fact favors the opinion that, when large events happen, the hazard assessment should change accordingly. However, uncertainty of the hazard estimates is normally able to hide the effect of those large events. This is illustrated using data from the Mediterranean coast of Spain, where the last years have been extremely disastrous. Thus, it is possible to compare the hazard assessment based on data previous to those years with the analysis including them. With our approach, no significant change is detected when the statistical uncertainty is taken into account. The hazard analysis is carried out with a standard model. Time-occurrence of events is assumed Poisson distributed. The wave-height of each event is modelled as a random variable which upper tail follows a Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD). Moreover, wave-heights are assumed independent from event to event and also independent of their occurrence in time. A threshold for excesses is assessed empirically. The other three parameters (Poisson rate, shape and scale parameters of GPD) are jointly estimated using Bayes' theorem. Prior distribution accounts for physical features of ocean waves in the Mediterranean sea and experience with these phenomena. Posterior distribution of the parameters allows to obtain posterior distributions of other derived parameters like occurrence probabilities and return periods. Predictives are also available. Computations are carried out using the program BGPE v2.0

No presente trabalho, foram utilizadas tecnologias geoespaciais visando a auxiliar o gerenciamento e o manejo da cultura da maçã. Um GPS de navegação foi utilizado para delimitar 201 quadras de maçã na Fazenda Rio Verde situada no município de Fraiburgo-SC. As coordenadas dos pontos (waypoints) foram introduzidas num sistema de informações geográficas (SIG), obtendo-se um mapa com a distribuição dos limites das quadras de maçã. Estes limites foram associados a um banco de dados contendo informações cadastrais, tais como: variedade, data de plantio e área. Imagens do sensor ETM+ do satélite Landsat-7, adquiridas em 07 de janeiro de 2000 e 05 de agosto de 2001, foram utilizadas para mapear o uso e ocupação do solo nas áreas restantes da fazenda. O tamanho das quadras de maçã variou entre 0,14 e 5,32 ha. Uma comparação entre a área das quadras estimada pelo GPS de navegação e a área estimada a partir do número de plantas, multiplicado pela área ocupada por planta, apresentou um coeficiente de correlação r=0,97. As classes de uso e ocupação do solo foram: açude, banhado, mato, capoeira, lavoura e reflorestamento. De acordo com os resultados alcaados nesta pesquisa, pode-se chegar às seguintes conclusões: a) o uso do GPS de navegação mostrou-se vvel para a obtenção do mapa com o limite das quadras de maçã; b) as imagens do Landsat permitiram identificar as diferentes classes de uso e ocupação do solo; c) o SIG associado a um banco de dados é uma importante ferramenta de gerenciamento das atividades da fruticultura em quadras.

As cultivares de macieira exigem diferentes requerimentos em frio, ou seja, o total de horas abaixo de um limite de temperatura do ar, porém são poucas as informações sobre quais temperaturas são mais eficientes para superar a dormência. As cultivares de macieira Condesa, Baronesa, Daiane, Imperatriz, Fuji e Gala foram estudadas quanto à quantidade de frio e as temperaturas do ar para a indução da brotação. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, no esquema fatorial, com seis cultivares, cinco níveis de unidades de frio ( 300; 600; 900; 1200 e 1500 UF) e três temperaturas do ar ( 5; 10 e 15ºC). O tempo médio para brotação foi menor quando as cultivares foram submetidas a 1.500 unidades de frio, independentemente da temperatura. A temperatura efetiva para acumular frio varia com a cultivar, podendo chegar até 15ºC para cultivares de menor exigência em frio.

Résumé Dans le rein, la vasopressine possède un rôle essentiel dans la régulation fine du transport d'eau et participe au contrôle de la réabsorption du sodium. Cette action est conduite par l'activation du récepteur à la vasopressine V2R situé dans l'anse de Henle, dans le tubule connecteur et dans le canal collecteur du néphron des rongeurs et conduit à la formation d'AMPc entraînant un mécanisme d'action caracrisé par deux phases distinctes. Le premier effet de la vasopressine est non génomique et a lieu rapidement après l'activation du récepteur, la deuxième phase est plus tardive et possède la caracristique de moduler la transcription d'un réseau de gènes. Parmi ces gènes, plusieurs sont directement impliqués dans le transport d'eau et de sodium, comme l'Aqp2 et 3, ENaC et la Na,K-ATPase. L'identification des effets de la voie de signalisation de la vasopressine représente un point crucial pour la compréhension des mécanismes moléculaires de la réabsorption de l'eau et du sodium dans le néphron. L'analyse en série de l'expression de gènes (SAGE) réalisée en 2001 dans notre laboratoire a permis de caracriser le transcriptome dépendant de la vasopressine dans la lige cellulaire mpkCCDc14,arivée du canal collecteur cortical (CCD) de souris. Deux des transcrits induits par la vasopressine (VIT) ont fait l'objet des études de ce travail de thèse. Le premier est VIT32 (Vasopressin induced transcript 32) qui code pour une protéine ne possédant aucune homologie avec des domaines protéiques dont la fonction est connue. Dans le système d'expression de l'ovocyte de Xenopus laevis, VIT32 induit la maturation des ovocytes et diminue le courant sensible à l'amiloride de manière dépendante de la voie des MAPK. Dans les mpkCCDc14, l'inhibition de la voie des MAPK diminue le courant sodique en diminuant l'activité de la Na,K-ATPase, mais sans modifier le courant d'ENaC. Ainsi la voie de signalisation des MAPK peut avoir des cibles différentes suivant le système dans lequel elle est étudiée. C'est pourquoi nous avons décidé de poursuivre l'étude de VIT32 dans un contexte physiologique en créant une souris dépourvue du gène codant pour VIT32 de manière conditionnelle (conditional knockout). La première partie de cette thèse a donc consisté à générer cette souris. Le deuxième transcrit induit par la vasopressine qui a été étudié dans cette thèse est RGS2 (Regulator of G protein Signaling 2). In vitro, il a été montré que RGS2 inhibe des voies de signalisation dépendantes de récepteurs couplés à des protéines Gq et Gs. Dans notre étude, nous avons montré que dans le néphron de rein de souris, RGS2 est colocalisé avec V2R. In vivo, la vasopressinecrétée lors d'une restriction en eau imposée à des souris augmente l'expression de RGS2. De plus, l'accumulation d'AMPc engendrée par l'action de la vasopressine sur les canaux collecteurs est significativement plus grande chez les souris dépourvues de RGS2 (rgs2 -/-). Cette induction de la signalisation de la vasopressine est corrélée à une augmentation de la réabsorption d'eau chez les souris rgs2 -/-. Ainsi RGS2 serait impliqué dans le rétrocontrôlegatif de la voie de signalisation de la vasopressine. Abstract In the kidney, vasopressin plays a key role in the control of water balance and participates in salt reabsorption. These actions are induced by the activation of V2 vasopressin receptor (V2R) located in the loop of Henle, in the connecting tubule and in the collecting duct leading to an increase in intracellular cAMP levels. The V2R-mediated vasopressin action elicits a rapid, non-genomic effect, during which water and salt reabsorption is rapidly increased and a late or genomic effect characterised by the long-term regulation of water and salt reabsorption through the transcriptional activation of a gene network that includes Aqp2, Aqp3, ENaC and Na,K-ATPase. Serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) performed in 2001 in our laboratory characterised the vasopressin induced transcripts (VIT) in the mpkCCDc14 cell line. Two of them are studied in this thesis. The first one is VIT32 (Vasopressin induced transcript 32) that encodes a protein that has no homology with any protein domain of known function. In the Xenopus laevis oocyte, VIT32 induces oocyte maturation and downregulates the ENaC amiloride sensitive current via the activation of the MAPK pathway. In mpkCCDc14 cell line, the MAPK pathway inhibition leads to a decrease of Na,K-ATPase activity without affecting ENaC current. Therefore, the MAPK pathway can act on different targets depending on the cellular context. Thus, we decided to investigate the function of VIT32 in its physiological environment by performing a conditional knockout mouse of VIT32. The first part of this thesis consisted in generating this mouse. The second studied vasopressin induced transcript is RGS2 (Regulator of G protein Signaling 2). In vitro, RGS2 has been shown to inhibit Gq and Gs protein-coupled receptor pathway. In our study we show that RGS2 is co-localized with V2R in the mouse nephron. In vivo, vasopressin secreted during water restriction up-regulates RGS2 expression. Moreover, vasopressin-dependant accumulation of CAMP is significantly increased in the cortical collecting duct of RGS2 knockout mice. This increase is correlated with an increase in water reabsorption. RGS2 could be involved in the negative feedback regulation of V2R signalling. Résumé tout public Le corps humain est composé d'environ 60% d'eau répartie à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur des cellules de notre organisme. Les cellules, unités fondamentales du vivant, puisent l'oxygène et les nutriments indispensables à leur fonctionnement dans le liquide extracellulaire. La composition du milieu doit être constante, car les variations peuvent perturber considérablement et parfois fatalement la fonction des cellules. Ainsi les organismes pluricellulaires ont développé des mécanismes permettant de contrôler la constance du milieu extracellulaire afin de maintenir l'état d'équilibre nommé homéostasie. Le rein joue un rôle majeur dans cette homéostasie grâce à sa capacité de réabsorber l'eau et les solutés en fonction des besoins de l'organisme. Cette fonction du rein est régulée par différentes hormones comme la vasopressine, qui permet de contrôler la réabsorption fine de l'eau et des solutés. Dans leurs membranes, les cellules possèdent des récepteurs leur permettant de répondre aux signaux extracellulaires comme le sont entre autres les hormones. Ainsi les cellules sensibles à la vasopressine possèdent un récepteur nommé V2R qui permet d'intégrer les signaux de la vasopressine en déclenchant tout une cascade d'événements conduisant à une modification de l'expression de certaines protéines impliquées directement ou non dans la réabsorption de l'eau et des solutés. Une étude précédente élaborée au sein de notre laboratoire a permis de répertorier les protéines dont l'expression est augmentée par de la vasopressine. Deux de ces protéines ont fait l'objet des études de cette thèse. La première protéine induite par la vasopressine est VIT32 (Vasopressin induced transcript 32). Cette protéine est entre autres impliquée dans la réabsorption du sodium, mais la fonction précise de VIT32 dans ce transport n'a pas pu être déterminée. Une des approches possibles pour l'étude de la fonction d'une protéine est de supprimer son expression chez la souris et d'étudier les conséquences de son absence. Ces souris sont appees des souris knockout, puisque la protéine en question ne peut plus agir. La première partie de cette thèse a donc consisté à générer une souris dépourvue du gène de VIT32. La deuxième protéine étudiée est RGS2 (Regulator of G protein Signaling 2). Cette protéine inhibe certaines voies de signalisation activées par différentes hormones. Dans cette partie du travail de thèse, nous avons pu mettre en évidence que RGS2 agit comme un inhibiteur de la voie de signalisation de la vasopressine. En modifiant cette signalisation, RGS2 serait donc un médiateur du contrôle de la réabsorption d'eau dans les cellules du rein sensibles à la vasopressine.

Este artigo teve como objetivo apresentar os principais resultados de um estudo de Sistemas Agroindustriais (SAG's) do PENSA e os principais resultados de sua aplicação à citricultura no Brasil. Este é um modelo utilizado para descrever diversas etapas metodológicas e quantificar em termos de faturamento os principais setores do agronegócio. A proposta visa a manter o objetivo que norteou o desenvolvimento do trabalho. No SAG dos citros foram identificadas as principais empresas privadas e instituições envolvidas, desde as indústrias de insumos, à citricultura, passando pela indústria processadora de citros, distribuição , achegar ao consumidor final. As informações foram coletadas através de entrevistas, ponto central desta metodologia, buscando levantar o montante financeiro vendido pelas empresas no setor em estudo. Neste ponto, os dados obtidos são processados e inseridos na descrição do sistema (quantificação) e assim analisados. Foi gerado o desenho da cadeia de cítricos objetivando identificar possíveis ações coletivas, visando ao fortalecimento do setor.

Objetivou-se estimar os custos de produção e lucratividade do caju in natura na Regional de Jales, noroeste do Estado de São Paulo. Os dados foram levantados junto a produtores, a partir da aplicação de questionário e da elaboração de planilhas, para caracterizar todo o processo produtivo e realizar análise econômica. A produção de fruta para mesa exige um sistema de cultivo mais intensivo, principalmente no controle de pragas e doeas; por sua vez, eleva o custo de produção que, via de regra, é compensada pelos preços alcaados. Os custos de produção são altos, mas o que deve ser destacada é a participação relativa das embalagens que pode chegar a um terço do custo operacional efetivo, seguido pelos custos pós-colheita. Os indicadores de lucratividade mostram que a produção de caju é rentável nesta região, e o índice de lucratividade foi de 46,50%.

A cultura da Physalis peruviana, família das solaceas, ainda é pouco explorada no Brasil, mas é uma nova opção de diversificação para pequenos produtores, com boas perspectivas para o mercado nacional e internacional, mais conhecida como camapum e joá-de-capote, podendo ser confundida com outras espécies. Essa frutífera pode chegar até dois metros de altura quando se utiliza um sistema de condução adequado, influenciando no desenvolvimento da planta e na qualidade do fruto produzido. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a influência de quatro sistemas de condução de plantas de physalis na produção de frutos, em dois ciclos de produção, durante os anos de 2006-2007 e 2007-2008, em Lages-SC. Avaliaram-se os sistemas de condução em "V", em "X", espaldeira simples e livre. O delineamento experimental adotado foi de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, sendo cada unidade experimental constituída de dez plantas. Observou-se que, nos dois ciclos consecutivos, o sistema em "X" apresentou os melhores resultados na maioria das características físico-químicas analisadas, quando comparado com os outros sistemas de condução. Conclui-se que a physalis se adapta bem à região do planalto catarinense e que, independentemente do sistema de condução utilizado, a planta tutorada sob sistema de condução apresentou frutos de maior peso, diâmetro e melhor qualidade, gerando frutos com maior valor comercial, quando comparados com a testemunha, sem condução e sem tutoramento.

Tässä diplomityössä on tutkittu erilaisten sanomavarastoratkaisujen soveltuvuutta yrityksen liiketoimintasovellusten liityntäratkaisun sanomavarastototeutukseksi. Arvioitaviksi tuotteiksi valittiin kaksi kaupallista tuotetta (MQSeries Integrator v2 ja NEONtrack). Lisäksi työn osana toteutettiin UPM-Kymmene Oy:n sanomavarastopilotti, jonka arviointi ja testaus suoritettiin kaupallisten tuotteiden tavoin. Kaikkien arvioitujen tuotteiden toiminta perustuu asynkroniseen sanomien välitykseen sanomajonoja hyödyntäen. Työn teoriaosassa tutkittiin liiketoimintasovellusten liityntäratkaisuja, sovellusten liitettävyyttä, yleistä tietovarastotekniikkaa ja arvioitujen tuotteiden toimintaa searkkitehtuuria. Käytännön osuus sisälsi sanomavarastopilotin rakentamisen, arvioitujen tuotteiden asennukset/konfiguroinnit ja tuotteiden arvioinnin sekä testauksen. Kokonaisuuden kannalta sanomavarastopilotti osoittautui parhaaksi vaihtoehdoksi. Sanomavarastopilotin toteutuksessa käytettyjen teknologioiden yleisyys UPM-Kymmene Oy:ssä tulee takaamaan tuotteen soveltuvuuden olemassa oleviin järjestelmiin sekä mahdollisuudet jatkokehitykseen.

PURPOSE: To present a rare case of deep penetrating neck trauma in which a retained foreign body in the cervical spine (a broken knife blade) resulted in delayed radicular injury. We describe the surgical management using a retrojugular approach. CASE REPORT: Our patient sustained a stab wound to the supraclavicular triangle from a small pocketknife. He was initially managed in a local hospital by simple primary wound closure without any radiological examinations, and was discharged home. The patient re-consulted in a delayed fashion with mild local persistent neck pain. Subsequent radiological investigations revealed a foreign body (the broken blade of a pocket knife) embedded in the left neural foramen between the C6 and C7 vertebrae penetrating the disc space. The blade was lying between the left C7 nerve root and the ipsilateral vertebral artery (VA) at the transition of V1 and V2 segments. Initial neurological evaluation was normal. Some days later, the patient developed a delayed left C7 radicular deficit. We undertook urgent exploration along the wound corridor through a retrojugular, transforaminal approach with successful removal of the blade. DISCUSSION: To our knowledge, this is a unique case where a retained foreign body penetrated the soft tissues of the neck, embedding deep in the vertebral column without vascular, aerodigestive or significant primary neurological injury, while causing delayed neck pain and delayed onset radicular injury. We describe our surgical management for removal of the retained blade. The retrojugular approach gives excellent access to all of the important anatomical structures of the neck from an anterolateral approach.

This study aimed to evaluate the growth characteristics of irrigated Vitória pineapple plants grown in semi-arid conditions and determine its developmental stages based on those characteristics. It was used a randomized block design with four replicates. The experimental treatments were: plant harvest at 270, 330, 390, 450, 510, 570, 690, 750, and 810 days after planting (DAP). The following variables were determined: plant height, stem diameter, D-leaf length, D-leaf fresh and dry mass, biomass production of plants and plant parts (organs), and vegetative biomass. Five phenological stages are proposed based on vegetative biomass production: < 20% biomass production (V1); 21-40% (V2); 41-60% (V3); 61-80% (V4); and &gt; 80% (V5). The maximum growth rate for plant height, D-leaf length, and stem diameter was observed at the end of the phenological stage V1 (390-411 DAP), and at the end of stage V5 these plant traits had average values of 106, 82, and 7 cm, respectively. The maximum biomass accumulation rates were observed at stages V4 and V5, resulting in a final fruit yield and total fresh biomass of 72 t ha-1 and 326 t ha-1, respectively. Finally, we estimated that 80% of the accumulated biomass may remain in the field after fruit and slip harvest, and could be incorporated as plant residue into the soil.

To evaluate antibody specificities induced by simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) versus human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) envelope antigens in nonhuman primate (NHP), we profiled binding antibody responses to linear epitopes in NHP studies with HIV-1 or SIV immunogens. We found that, overall, HIV-1 Env IgG responses were dominated by V3, with the notable exception of the responses to the vaccine strain A244 Env that were dominated by V2, whereas the anti-SIVmac239 Env responses were dominated by V2 regardless of the vaccine regimen.

UNLABELLED: We compared the HIV-1-specific cellular and humoral immune responses elicited in rhesus macaques immunized with two poxvirus vectors (NYVAC and ALVAC) expressing the same HIV-1 antigens from clade C, Env gp140 as a trimeric cell-released protein and a Gag-Pol-Nef polyprotein as Gag-induced virus-like particles (VLPs) (referred to as NYVAC-C and ALVAC-C). The immunization protocol consisted of two doses of the corresponding poxvirus vector plus two doses of a combination of the poxvirus vector and a purified HIV-1 gp120 protein from clade C. This immunogenicity profile was also compared to that elicited by vaccine regimens consisting of two doses of the ALVAC vector expressing HIV-1 antigens from clades B/E (ALVAC-vCP1521) plus two doses of a combination of ALVAC-vCP1521 and HIV-1 gp120 protein from clades B/E (similar to the RV144 trial regimen) or clade C. The results showed that immunization of macaques with NYVAC-C stimulated at different times more potent HIV-1-specific CD4(+) T-cell responses and induced a trend toward higher-magnitude HIV-1-specific CD8(+) T-cell immune responses than did ALVAC-C. Furthermore, NYVAC-C induced a trend toward higher levels of binding IgG antibodies against clade C HIV-1 gp140, gp120, or murine leukemia virus (MuLV) gp70-scaffolded V1/V2 and toward best cross-clade-binding IgG responses against HIV-1 gp140 from clades A, B, and group M consensus, than did ALVAC-C. Of the linear binding IgG responses, most were directed against the V3 loop in all immunization groups. Additionally, NYVAC-C and ALVAC-C also induced similar levels of HIV-1-neutralizing antibodies and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) responses. Interestingly, binding IgA antibody levels against HIV-1 gp120 or MuLV gp70-scaffolded V1/V2 were absent or very low in all immunization groups. Overall, these results provide a comprehensive survey of the immunogenicity of NYVAC versus ALVAC expressing HIV-1 antigens in nonhuman primates and indicate that NYVAC may represent an alternative candidate to ALVAC in the development of a future HIV-1 vaccine. IMPORTANCE: The finding of a safe and effective HIV/AIDS vaccine immunogen is one of the main research priorities. Here, we generated two poxvirus-based HIV vaccine candidates (NYVAC and ALVAC vectors) expressing the same clade C HIV-1 antigens in separate vectors, and we analyzed in nonhuman primates their immunogenicity profiles. The results showed that immunization with NYVAC-C induced a trend toward higher HIV-1-specific cellular and humoral immune responses than did ALVAC-C, indicating that this new NYVAC vector could be a novel optimized HIV/AIDS vaccine candidate for human clinical trials.
