Among several sites in Brazil, where the local human community develop a consistent knowledge on the environment they live, there is Cananeia local authority in south coast of Sao Paulo. The history of Cananeia is presented as an ancient human occupation, which, nowadays, culminates in 12000 habitants that survive from tourism and fishing. Considering the great importance of the knowledge about plant toxicity, the objective of this work is to develop a study with the residents and its focus is their acquaintance with toxic plants, which occur on contiguous areas. After a preliminary recognition field work, the local authority under study was subdivided into two areas for sampling, characterized by the different levels of human occupation: (A) Island area, more occupied, and (B) Continental area, less occupied. The semi-structured interviews were conducted in both areas according to the “snow ball” method, due to the specifically interest of making comparisons. The plant species cited in the interviews were collected, herborized and identified. One proceeded quali- and quantitative analysis in order to elucidate differences between the studied areas, to establish relations among age/sex of the habitants, the cited species diversity and the practice of knowledge transmission. Were carried out 90 interviews (47 in island, 43 in continent) in which the habitants have cited 137 ethno-species. Both communities are much alike, although the manly differences were presented by the occupation and the uses of the toxic plants. At the island, were interviewed three key-informers, this fact that has not happened at the continent. It was not noticed significant statistical difference between the diversity of toxic plants knew by the habitants of both areas, but a huge dissimilarity was found. The most cited plants, especially the ornamental ones, at both areas are scientifically... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The Guaraní aquifer has relevant importance both as a source of water for several urban centres and the development of agriculture and livestock. In recharge areas the aquifer is free and, therefore, subject to contamination of effluents and tailings deposited on soils that cover it. Thus, it becomes crucial not only its protection at all levels, as the knowledge of its degree of natural vulnerability. The present work used geostatistics modeling techniques to study the natural vulnerability of the Guaraní aquifer in the city of Rio Bonito, State of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, where the Guarani aquifer is exposed. These techniques, extensively used in evaluation studies of mineral deposits and oil tanks, can be adapted to produce a spatial classification or a regionalisation of probabilistic indices of vulnerability. By ordinary kriging method maps of vulnerability classification were obtained. To determine the vulnerability of the aquifer was employed the Aquifer Vulnerability Index (AVI), which requires knowledge of unsaturated zone thickness and permeability. The final product was a map with probabilistic index of vulnerability of the Guaraní aquifer, which presented values between 0 to 0.33 years, framing the area studied in AVI class extremely high vulnerability

Objectives: conduct a systematic review of national and international literature, to classify the types of production, comparing the two literatures and synthesize knowledge in the area. Method: Systematic Review of Literature, in the databases LILACS, CINAHL and MEDLINE for selection of articles in their entirety, the data extracted from the articles selected were: the study of bibliographic information (title, author, journal, place of study and year of publication), and general information (multidisciplinary production or specific area, language, type of study, type of population and contributions of the study). The categories established for classification of publications were: raising the cost of procedures/ interventions, economic evaluation of specific intervention, inclusion of nursing in the economic context, using cost as an important variable in the study. Results: The study included 39 publications, with 31% of national production and the remaining 69%, internationally. Most publications were classified according to category of economic evaluation of specific intervention, followed by the category of raising the cost of procedure / intervention, which fits the majority of national production. Human resources is shaped as an important variable for obtaining cost studies that proposed to make this calculation. Conclusion: The production of literature in nursing cost management is relevant in number of publications within the proposed period and is directed to different areas within this theme. There are significant differences in national and international literature: these last use more accurate methods, have more content theorized, use more the economic evaluation tools and related more costs with a amplified context. The production of such knowledge should continue as far as possible and putting that knowledge relating the current reality, in order to amplify the field of nursing and add value

Specifically in the teaching practices of History and Geography notes a concern with the construction of school knowledge based on observance of categories such as 'everyday' and 'place', which emphasize a look intensively focused on the local context of the students - element (res) significance, situated in time and space, the representations and actions of individuals, the (re) defining their identities (individual and / or collective) and rights to citizenship. However, both educators in history, as in geography, should be alert to some limits of a strictly pedagogical 'localist'. When it comes to use of language technology audiovisual in line with the pedagogical existing in “PCN's” history and geography, one must keep in mind that not just resize the movie to local level (whether in the classroom or outside), or elect the 'localism' as the new panacea of a certain 'pedagogy' of audiovisual language. With the desire to promote the development of new methods of teaching history and geography is that we designed a research project. This is creating opportunity with the possibility of graduating videos reflect on the teaching of history and geography, according to the use of a new technological language and art (cinema), the association with the reality of the students (hence the site survey and urban) as well as the promotion of an active and critical dialogue with the PCNs’s recommendations.

The major Neotropical malaria vector, Anopheles darlingi, was reintroduced into the Iquitos, Loreto, Peru area during the early 1990s, where it displaced other anophelines and caused a major malaria epidemic. Since then, case numbers in Loreto have fluctuated, but annual increases have been reported since 2012. The population genetic structure of An. darlingi sampled before and after the introduction of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) was investigated to test the hypothesis of temporal population change (2006 vs. 2012). Current samples of An. darlingi were used to test the hypothesis of ecological adaptation to human modified (highway) compared with wild (riverine) habitat, linked to forest cover. In total, 693 An. darlingi from nine localities in Loreto, Peru area were genotyped using 13 microsatellite loci. To test the hypothesis of habitat differentiation in An. darlingi biting time patterns, HBR and EIR, four collections of An. darlingi from five localities (two riverine and three highway) were analysed. Analyses of microsatellite loci from seven (2006) and nine settlements (2012-2014) in the Iquitos area detected two distinctive populations with little overlap, although it is unclear whether this population replacement event is associated with LLIN distribution or climate. Within the 2012-2014 population two admixed subpopulations, A and B, were differentiated by habitat, with B significantly overrepresented in highway, and both in near-equal proportions in riverine. Both subpopulations had a signature of expansion and there was moderate genetic differentiation between them. Habitat and forest cover level had significant effects on HBR, such that Plasmodium transmission risk, as measured by EIR, in peridomestic riverine settlements was threefold higher than in peridomestic highway settlements. HBR was directly associated with available host biomass rather than forest cover. A population replacement event occurred between 2006 and 2012-2014, concurrently with LLIN distribution and a moderate El Niño event, and prior to an increase in malaria incidence. The likely drivers of this replacement cannot be determined with current data. The present-day An. darlingi population is composed of two highly admixed subpopulations, which appear to be in an early stage of differentiation, triggered by anthropogenic alterations to local habitat.
