The aim of this case report is present a case in which the patient had plasma cell gingivitis induced by consumption of pepper. Patient A.M.S., male, 23 years, presented himself at the Clinic of Periodontology, complaining of severe pain, bleeding gums and tooth mobility. Interview was conducted not observing anything relevant. In oral evaluation, we observed in the anterior swollen gums, bleeding, suppuration and great touch, and tooth mobility. Being an aggressive framework in relation to patient age, we performed the following laboratory tests: complete blood count, blood sugar, and coagulation, and biopsy in the anterior inferior, because a diagnosis of lymphoma. At the end of antibiotic therapy, a significant improvement of clinical symptoms, pain relief, less swollen gums and reduce the suppuration and mobility. Laboratory tests showed no change. Fifteen days later, the patient returned with worsening of clinical status. The pathological diagnosis was plasma cell gingivitis and then performed a new history by placing greater emphasis on dietary habits, and the patient reported consumption of pepper in their meals, and relate this to clinical presentation. After elimination of pepper diet the patient showed remission of clinical data.

Temperature is certainly one of the major factors that affect biochemical and physiological processes. So, the investigation of how animals regulate body temperature (Tb) and respond to changes in ambient temperature is indispensable. There are five thermal states defined up to date that include euthermy, hypo and hyperthermia (forced fall and increase of Tb, respectively), fever and anapyrexia (regulated increase and fall of Tb, respectively). In this review, we present some classic and recent data about thermoregulatory mechanisms involved in those thermal states with special attention directed to anapyrexia, a phenomenon that has attracted the interest of researchers due to its potential therapeutic benefits.

This paper is concerned with a modeling method that can be used for an experimental identification of a dynamic system. More specifically, an equivalent lumped element system is presented to represent in a unique and exact manner a complete proportional-derivative (PD) controlled servo positioning system having a flexible manipulator. The impedance and mobility approach is used to transform the P and D control gains to an electrical spring and an electrical damper, respectively. The impedance model method is used to transform the flexible manipulator to a coupled system between a single contact mass at the driving position and a series of noncontact masses each of which is connected to the contact mass via a resilient member. This method is applicable whenever the driving point response of such a manipulator is available. Experimental work is presented to support the theory developed.

Individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) seem to present asymmetric postural control, and the commitment to postural control that is a big factor of falls in this population. However, the asymmetry in the postural control of fallers and non fallers with PD and neurologically healthy elderly is not too much studied. The objective of the study is to analyze the asymmetry in postural control in different static positions of elderly patients with PD and healthy elderly fallers and non fallers. The study included 70 older adults with PD and 70 neurologically healthy (CG). The groups were matched for age, gender, height, weight and cognitive condition. It was evaluated the clinical, cognitive status and incidence of falls among its participants through weekly prospective follow-up of 4 months. Then, for each group, CG and PD, it was selected 12 elderly fallers and 12 elderly non fallers to evaluate postural control. Participants were evaluated through two force platforms in conditions of bipedal support, unipedal and tandem position. It was realized 3 attempts of 30s for each condition. For unipedal and tandem condition it was made 3 attempts for each lower limb. The parameters of interest of the center of pressure (CoP), were analyzed for each condition and compared by MANOVAs with factor group, fall and asymmetry. Post hoc Tukey tests were used to determine the relationships between them. The results show that CG individuals showed greater velocity and CoP area in relation to PD. It was verified that at the control group that non fallers individuals (CGN) had more displacement and RMS in the average lateral direction in the dominant limb when compared to the less affected limb of non fallers with PD (PDN). Faller individuals in the control group (CGF) had larger area in the non dominant limb when compared to the most affected leg of fallers individuals with PD (PDF). Cerebral palsy (CP) describes a group of permanent disorders of the development of movement and posture, causing activity limitation, that are attributed to non-progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain.A child with cerebral palsy may have impairments in motor control, which contributes to loss of functional abilities in posture and mobility. The severity of the impairment on the neuromuscular system determines the variations of functional mobility in children with cerebral palsy. The control of the patient, during the dental treatment, is of fundamental importance because these patients present some pathological reflexes which interfere in the odontological assistance

Mobility and accessibility are terms that are related to each other. Large urban centers now face problems arising from rapid population growth and among them are problems inherent to mobility and accessibility. The aim of this paper was to conduct a literature review, from a review in journals and books on the issue of mobility in urban centers, showing how mobility is associated with accessibility. A key finding was that the new social reality is the challenge for the future planning of cities and in these cases should be used the knowledge of design, architecture, urbanism and urban planning to address these problems.

This paper ditach the portability and mobility of digital television as opportunities for promotion to the social hospitality. The digital technologies add news concepts to hospitality, converging to the redemption of the social being, integrating and strengthening social ties in the technological space. With the digital television, we may have new forms of sociability, because may be required and assisted in any place, as a result of their actions for portability and mobility, which allows the construction of social ties or an ample concept the hospitality social in public spaces.

The purpose of the study was to outline the profile of patients hospitalized at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital das Clínicas de Botucatu - UNESP. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study. The data were extracted from the “Discharge, Admission and Death Register” of the unit of the patients hospitalized between January and December 2011. There was predominance of male children (54.4%) under one year of age (40,7%) were, with a mean length of stay of 5.46 days. Most of these children came from cities included in the DIR XI/SP in Botucatu (78.2%). The discharge contributed with 91.1% of the total discharges from the unit. Most admissions happened during the fall and winter, with the Immediate Post-Operative (IPO - 32.3%) and respiratory diseases (24.2%) as the most frequent causes. The profile of patients at the PICU makes it possible to elucidate individual aspects, family, social, demographic, seasonal, climatic, and, also, the clinical conditions, and, thus, comprehend the context of hospitalizations, in order to propose improvements on assistance, in an individualized and integral manner, for patients and their families.

As I write this, there is still snow in some ditches and fence rows, and many fields look like they are just about right for rice planting rather than corn or soybeans. Nonetheless, spring fever has hit and the field work will soon be going at full throttle. This raises a frequently asked question: “What are custom rates this year?” The Nebraska Custom Rate Survey is conducted every two years, and we are in the process of analyzing the data from our 2010 survey. We will publish those numbers as soon as possible. At this point we are working on the data for Part I, Spring and Summer Activities, and surveys are still coming in for Part II on Fall and Miscellaneous Operations. We thank all responders who helped out by completing surveys and sending us their information. We conduct a relatively extensive survey across the state, and as a result, it takes considerable time to get the data entered and analyzed by region.

Two years ago, Mike Fall and I showed you some ideas we had regarding mod¬ern architecture and bird problems. This year we've switched to considering bird hazards in older frame dwellings and on buildings where a fire hazard may be ap¬parent. During a class project some time ago, I was examining a nest of house sparrows and discovered that these birds incorporated cellulose cigarette filters into their nests. Filters were stripped of their paper wrapping and were apparently used by the sparrows as a substitute for or a supplement to fluffy air-born seeds and seed mat¬erials. The incidence of the cigarette filters varied. In the nests that I sampled the numbers varied anywhere from six up to two dozen filter remnants. We feel that the incidence will probably vary with the relative availability of discarded cigarette filter butts. We are concerned with the incidence of filters as an index to the possibility that the birds are picking up live cigarette butts, and this leads us to investigate some records of fires over the past three quarters of a century that were claimed to have been caused by birds.

Submesoscale activity over the Argentinian shelf is investigated by means of high resolution primitive equation numerical solutions. These reveal energetic turbulent activity (visually similar to the one occasionally seen in satellite images) at scales O(5 km) in fall and winter that is linked to mixed layer baroclinic instability. The air-sea heat flux responsible for (i) deepening the upper ocean boundary layer (at these seasons) and (ii) maintaining a cross-shelf background density gradient is the key environmental parameter controlling submesoscale activity. Implications of submesoscale turbulence are investigated. Its mixing efficiency estimated by computing a diffusivity coefficient is above 30 m(2) s(-1) away from the shallowest regions. Aggregation of surface buoyant material by submesoscale currents occurs within hours and is presumably important to the ecosystem.

This work aimed to evaluate the influence of specific operational conditions on the performance of a spiral-wound ultrafiltration pilot plant for direct drinking water treatment, installed at the Guarapiranga's reservoir, in the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region. Results from operational tests showed that the volume of permeate produced in the combination of periodic relaxation with flushing and chlorine dosage procedures was 49% higher than the volume obtained when these procedures were not used. Two years of continuous operation demonstrated that the ultrafiltration pilot plant performed better during fall and winter seasons, higher permeate flow production and reduced chemical cleanings frequency. Observed behavior seems to be associated with the algae bloom events in the reservoir, which are more frequent during spring and summer seasons, confirmed by chlorophyll-a analysis results. Concentrate clarification using ferric chloride was quite effective in removing NOM and turbidity, allowing its recirculation to the ultrafiltration feed tank. This procedure made it possible to reach almost 99% water recovery considering a single 54-hour recirculation cycle. Water quality monitoring demonstrated that the ultrafiltration pilot plant was quite efficient, and that potential pathogenic organisms, Escherichia coil and total coliforms, turbidity and apparent color removals were 100%, 95.1%, and 91.5%, respectively.
